I can't copy the content from my phone but per hisTwitter he mentions he had a good talk with G and had a great visit.

I may need to amend what I said. Perhaps G may have had an in-home visit after thinking this further and not an official visit.

I thought you were talking about the golfer that won the BMW championship today and thought it sounded a little weird myself....

which means he's on campus today? Hopefully he has a great visit - anyone with eyes on the ground that can provide an update would be awesome.

He won't arrive until late this afternoon or this evening. And there is also a possibility that he is a 2014 recruit and not a 2015 recruit. Back in the spring he talked about reclassifying and transferring out of Norland HS (same HS where Cleon Roberts went) but he ended up staying and I saw a recent article that listed him as a 2014 recruit. Not sure what is correct.

This is an official visit so I would think class of 2014. Juniors used to be unable to go on an official visits during the junior year but I know the NCAA was changing that but not sure if it was this year it was to be changed.
If I had to bet I would say 2014 class recruit.

Here's to hoping this kid actually wants to leave Florida and get away from home a bit. According to Scout, only school out of his home state.

So would he be academic prep or get to BCS level prep?

So would he be academic prep or get to BCS level prep? Who knows. Could be either, but it looks like it would be to get more BCS offers. If you can believe the Verbal Commits site, he has one BCS offer (South Florida) but they are out of scholarships and would only be able to take him as a 2015 recruit. His other offers are FIU, FAU, FGCU, Jacksonville, Murray State, Wyoming, Georgia Southern, and La Salle. ESPN has Florida State and Miami showing interest but that is for 2015.

I must have read the wrong thing. Sign me up for "Hooked On Phonics". Maybe our Florida connection will pay off.

The list I gave was from VerbalCommits.com. Rivals shows him as a 2014 recruit and their list is Boston U, Minnesota, South Carolina, and USC. ESPN's list is some of the Florida schools and I forget who else.

Ah, I didn't cross check there. Shame on me for assuming they'd both be on the same page. Sounds like his status is throwing more than just the websites for a loop though. Maybe that confusion will keep some of the big names out of the game.

I wonder how involved we are in Johnson's mind? He was supposed to visit Rhode Island this weekend but doesn't look like that happened unless I missed it. Also Butler is now involved according to him as well. He is a nice player and fit what we do. Would love to lock him up.

Likewise, but some unusual tweets left me feeling that we were out of it. It could be that he wants the ball in his hands, (call it pt gd or whatever) and feels that spot is locked up by Stukes. A kid with his talent is going to play somewhere, but this is a competitive game and we seem to be loaded with gds. He would truly allow G to go full steam on bigs and set us up brilliantly for another few years of the option of going four gd. with no drop off in talent on substitutions. I have also read that he is considered the best gd.left out there. He holds offers from Butler, and SLU.FGSU,FSU and URI also appear to be among his favorites, with URI having had an in home, I believe. Sure would hate to lose him to another A-10 rival. I don't know of any other official that he's gone on.

If it comes down to us vs Rhode Island, we need to call in Dominique McKoy to settle the debate.

He also holds offers from KSU, Murray State and FIU, but I haven't heard connections with those teams for some time.

Also Butler is now involved according to him as well. He is a nice player and fit what we do. Would love to lock him up. A La Salle coach, and I assume it was G, wouldn't have been at his workout yesterday unless there was still an interest on the kid's part. It's not like he's within driving distance. La Salle also had an in-home visit with him. He is friends with Cleon. Immediate playing time is an issue. G mentioned during the A10 Media Day interviews that he can fit 5 guards in the rotation at approx 25 mpg each. There's no way to get meaningful minutes for a sixth. He already has the five guard rotation for 2014-15 (DJ, Khalid, Cleon, Jordan, and Amar) and G will not bump a freshman ahead of any of them. G will need to convince him of the same thing he convinced Amar.

Peterson, in my opinion, isn't the same as the other 4 listed.... The other are ball handlers
He is kinda like the 4 on the small lineup even though... I am really intrigued by the lineup when it goes small... Giannini mentioned Lewis in the context of the first sub!
I wonder how the conversion went regarding DJ and the whole transfer situation....

I think what you're alluding to is something I hypothesized when DJ's transfer was announced: He was told or assumed his PT would stagnate or decrease over his last two years.

And in the case of a kid with Johnson's profile ... you sort of have to, right? I know we're not used to recruiting over players, but the better we are the more that becomes and unfortunate necessity.

I guess the mindset of these kids is that no one really wants to red shirt as a freshman, but i'm always left thinking it's not a bad shake. An extra year of scholarship education while becoming a better player, allowing you to get a post-graduate degree for the whopping price of free. I'd buy into that, but I'm also 5'8 with a vertical jump of two inches.

It would not shock to see the roster structure and team philosophy change slightly when Wright and Zack graduate..
What I mean is that the team will be playing 4 "guards" and one big as the norm as opposed to that getting used partially...
The reason why I say that is Price and Roberts are both a legit 6'5... and Price is very strong for a guard... This makes the lack of size on defense less of an issue especially when before it would Duren (6'1), Mills (6'1), Galloway (6'3) and Garland (6'1)...
It is absolutely possible to see Stukes, Lewis, Johnson, Roberts and Price getting A LOT of playing time because you will have 4 on the court... They might not be as quick but they can shoot and take players off the dribble...
This is what I believe Giannini is telling the guards.. Hence why you see him so involved with guards still even with 4 in the bag for the next several years..

That's one of his tweets that got my attention when he stated that he wasn't going anywhere that he was going to be recruited over. It sure seemed like he was talking about us, given the timing. With the talent that he appears to have, I would come in assuming that the best five gds. will get the playing time. What would we be doing checking out his progress way down in Miami if there wasn't a mutual interest? Don't forget that Norland has a beast of a big man a class or two behind him. That gives G even more of an incentive to get this kid as it could very well mean three kids from the same unlikely hs getting major minutes here.

Naturally, if this is true then this will have a very damaging impact at La Salle's chances to landing this talented player. A shame his style from everything I have seen and read would have been a natural fit. I don't believe there are many or any "high majors" that play as many guards...
