Anyone know what the single largest gift was to La Salle? Know they secured some artwork with some high ticket monetary value a handful of years ago. Just wondering.

Didn't the old owner for Crown, Cork & Seal give La Salle $10 million for the library?

Didn't the old owner for Crown, Cork & Seal give La Salle $10 million for the library? Before my time. Had to look up what that company even did.

Ouch. John F. Connelly (Connelly Containers) donated a large portion of the money for the Connelly Library.

The Connelly family gave to many Catholic charities and schools like the McShain family.
My brother actually had a fundraising meeting with Mr. Connelly. Mr. Connelly was a tough man. He wanted lots of facts and figures. Wanted to know exactly how his donation was to be used. Stressed he didn't want a penny wasted. Finally he reached into the lower drawer of his desk and pulled out some stock certificates. Gave them to the head of the group. Just as they were about to get up and leave, Mr. Connelly said to wait a minute. He calculated the value of the stock . Then went back to the bottom drawer for more stock certificates. He then said, " that should be enough." Hollywood couldn't write a scene as good.
