Just watched this video on my FB news feed. These Tshirts are awesome !! They should be worn by our entire student section during home games. It really gives our team and program an identity. The logo is very original too. Especially this year when we are set to be on TV for a bunch of games and hopefully as a team do well. For an outsider not familiar with La Salle this is a great marketing tool. What do you guys think ?

Just need them to do fake mustaches for the student section next.

I like the idea, but to channel my inner right wing wacko for a minute, the design on the shirt looks way too much like the Guy Fawkes masks that you see "occupy" types wearing.

Ugh, why did you have to be right... Mustache idea in, big. Execution, not so much maybe.
Occupy Tom Gola.

Yeah, I was happier before that was pointed out too. Going back, they could have just taken the exact facial hair layout from the mascot (rather than making it angry) and it would have been perfect.

First impression was "why are we fearing Dunphy?"
Second impression - weak. Another "Fear the Turtle" ripoff.

I say an emphatic NO. Completely unoriginal. Just google "fear the beard" or "fear the stache" and see how many people are already doing this.

If you incorporate the Mascot's Hat into the shirt you may be able to differentiate between similar logos. And you don't need it to say fear the Stache but something clever and personal to our school.
I know its a stretch, but I'm excited that our Basketball program and university are starting to get some publicity !!!
I started watching college bball around 8th grade (zero affiliation with any school) and found myself rooting for teams that had cool logos, uniform designs and mascots. Tshirt ideas like this help make a program more recognizable and build a larger student following. Two things La Salle needs to improve on.

My thing is that the shirts themselves are "meh" but after years of inactivity, I'll take it. And the accompanying video is great.
My hope is a new mascot is in the offing in the next few years. Same basic idea, but maybe just a little cooler costume/design. Our is fine, a C+. Not laughably bad or anything, just kind of middling. Not a major priority I know.

The shirt only has to do two things: get students to show up, and get students to show up again. This will likely accomplish that.
I really like that there are a limited number and that they can collect all four.
I think the stache bache stuff appeals to that certain age group and don't really think it matters what a few message board alums think. we're not the target audience anyway.
It will still generate a buzz and it's a subtle way of getting someone to represent the school colors without them feeling like a billboard or a sellout.
As others have said, it makes sense to do something rather than nothing, and I don't think the criticism of a shirt design is helpful. If I'm wrong about this, and if any of you have talent in this area, by all means you graphic design experts (DART majors, anyone?) could certainly email in their own designs to Kevin B (for next year). But in the meantime, this promotion does look like it probably already had much student involvement, and you really can't fault them.
When I went to a La Salle away game at Delaware, several hundred kids showed up for their latest t-shirt rotation. It has really caught on even though I'm sure the alums think the blue hen shirt is something they would not wear, the students begged to differ. The giveaway was actually done after the 0:00 end mark of the game and the funny part was (1) the game went to OT and then La Salle won the game. At a typical college game, if your home team lost your fans are usually out the door so fast!
La Salle doesn't do a lot of fan retention at games, especially on weekends. I like giveaways and I like them to be clever and not repetitive. They recently upgraded game day programs to full color, including posters. This free t-shirt club seems like a great idea too. The only thing better would have been free food and a pool party!

I think the idea of a goofy, funny shirt is great. It just would have been cool for something a bit more original for ours is all anyone's saying. No one seems to be faulting the concept. If there's more shirts coming, even better.
To me, the overall effort, concept, etc. is much more important than one shirt being maybe a little bit played out. The best one is unfortunately not possible, being something relating to the Southwest Philly Floater- given the current NCAA climate around marketing individual guys. I would have liked something about La Salle being back, 20th and Olney, etc. But again, the individual design of the first shirt is probably not all that important.
That said, I flatly reject the idea that people shouldn't criticize it if they have a problem. Nobody went the "typical La Salle" route which in itself is played out (and hopefully dead).

For next video - If they are going to use the Rocky theme, the Explorer might as well run up the steps outside Connelly Library.

The "Fear The Stache" shirts also play a bit off of Daniel Bryan, everyone's current favorite WWE wrestler. I'd LOVE if the students had a "YES! YES! YES!" chant.

Is wrestling actually that mainstream anymore? It's not what it was back in the Stone Cold days but it's still really popular. Daniel Bryan's the new hero. He's an undersized guy with a crazy person/hipster beard who gets by on heart and desire. However, the evil corporate HHH (yes, that one, who is legit married to Stephanie McMahon and legit sorta running the company) hates him and is doing whatever he can to keep him from the title. It's an awesome underdog story. Bryan has a really popular "Fear The Beard" shirt. He also comes to the ring pointing his fingers in the air and chanting "YES!" repeatedly. It's ridiculously popular and will make for a fine college basketball rooting chant. I love The White Stripes like no other but I really hope we stop Seven Nation Army since that was the Heat's thing.

While everyone isn't 100% pleased, this is 1000 times the improvement on the past, and that should be commended if nothing else. They started out pushing La Salle basketball pretty hard to the incoming freshman when they had the campus to themselves for the weekend, so maybe by getting the buzz started early for the freshman, it'll lead to good things.

I am thinking more "Fear the Scope"
Pass out inflatable *fake* microscopes against a big opponent, VCU for example.
or maybe I am just getting to old for creative thinking....
