hoop-math.com/LA%20SALLE2013.htmlGarland was the only guard on the team that shot better on 2-point jumpers than on 3-pointers (and anecdotally, almost all of those 2-point jumpers seemed to come off the dribble in tight spaces). Hopefully Brady has helped him extend the range this summer. Truth be told, the 2-pointers Garland hits are far more difficult shots than the open 3s he missed. Too bad points aren't awarded for true level of difficulty... Also interesting how valuable of a shot a quick 3 off a rebound is, but how horrible of a shot a quick 3 off an opponent score is.

This is awesome. I think the key stats that show why they performed the way they did lies under the "opponent score 11-35 seconds" category -- or against a set defense. The majority of shots in a college basketball game are taken under those conditions -- at least in our games (roughly 40% for and against for the good guys.) The huge disparity in in the 2pt Jumpers and 3pt shots. 39% of our shots against a set defense were from deep. We shot 38%. 32% of our shots were 2 pt jumpers. On defense, our opponents shot 25% of their jumpers from deep and averaged 30%. 47% of opponent shots against our defense were 2pt Jumpers and they made 40%. The eFG% evens all those numbers out. We have a 49% eFG on offense and gave up a 47% eFG on defense. This doesn't seem like a lot but when you consider that most of the shots taken for both sides of the ball were against set defenses, that 2% is an actual, real difference since the sample size is bigger. G's strategy all year was to take more three's than the other team and to give up as few three's as possible. We also have a very good advantage in shots off rebounds taken with 11-35 seconds left. 20% of our total shots were taken in this category w/ an eFG% of 50%. 23% of our opponent's shots were in this category w/ an eFG% of 45%. That tells me we did a hell of a job getting back after missed shots and getting into a good defensive position. Quick shots off steals were also a gigantic advantage. 9% of our total shots came from here for a 63% eFG. 7% of our opponents shots came quick of steals but they had a 52% eFG. We finished at the rim very effectively while forcing opponents into taking jumpers at a very good rate. ** G just made the game simple this year and had the talent to do so. Pass the ball around, look for 3s, get back on defense, pressure the ball to prevent 3s, and finish at the rim off of steals.
