Good thing we aren't known for our facial hair.

Oh, they'll have something to say. Wait until they wake up and get their morning coffee and newspaper.

Adding quality transfers with solid recruiting has made this team exciting to follow and watch. Keep it going... In terms of expectations, here's the August bracket: www.explorertownbracketologist.com

It may just be me but Duren looks bigger to me. Can't wait to see these guys back on the court.

Am I the only one who looks at guys like Duren and thinks "he's a small kid" without processing he's only basketball small and probably has 1-2 inches on me?

Nova will be better with Ennis, but not that good IMO. How do you see G'town sans Porter as a threat when they were smoked by FGCU? I don't see Thompson as much of a coaching guru - gets good talent and underdelivers. Marquette has shown the most of the bunch, but I can't see that high of a seed. I'd be interested in hearing your reasons, as I'm sure you have them. Thanks

That's one of my favorite things about basketball. I love whenever I hear "He's a bit small at 6'1'" in draft combines and the like. I think I'm friends with maybe one person taller than that. How often does one see someone who is like 6'7" or so, the dime-a-dozen size in the NBA.

But 6'0 isn't small, its basketball small. I'm saying I have a disconnect where if I met him at the new super TGIFridays that's opening up on campus, I'd have an issue processing him being taller than me.

I get what you're saying. My brother is "the tall one" in the family and he's like 5'11''. In basketball, he'd be undersized wherever on the floor.

Let me start by saying both the AAC and Big East are going to be very strong just by the mere fact that these teams will beat each other all during conference play. Teams from both of these conferences will carry impressive overall RPI numbers and great road RPI numbers. Their SOS numbers will also be very good. So as a bracketologist, I have to weight these teams heavily in my seeding compared to a weaker conference like the A10. Marquette: Big East champs. Auto high seed Georgetown: They have two solid Juniors that can take on the load. Possibly losing Greg Whittington to an ACL could really hurt this team. Maybe I'll move them down. 'Nova: They were relatively young last year and overachieved. I think they will bring that experience back and perform well. 6 seed is fair.

I knew what you meant, I was just busting on the fact that to me (I'm a shade under 6'5"), 6'0" would be short.

Really nice article both for the La Salle guys but also Nelson as a torch-bearer for Philly guards.
Two things about Garland that struck me. First, his shot is smoother (no mention about shot selection but that's for another day). Second, Garland says he feels more "explosive". I can't imagine anyone at the college level who was more explosive LAST season.
Shame that Stukes is only a FR. Imagine him working out with Nelson? I guess we'll have to wait a little longer for that to happen.
Getting closer to start. School dorms open in about three weeks. I believe WSOC starts practice this weekend.

I can count on one hand the people who are shorter than me that I've seen as stars in the game of basketball. (Chaz Williams is one of the five, Nelson another.) Duren should be thought of as a short star, but he's taller than all of us and that disqualifies him!

"• La Salle coach John Giannini said that junior forward Jerrell Wright has been the team’s offseason star. “He’s been the most impressive,” Giannani said of Wright, who averaged 10.8 points and 6.7 rebounds last season. “He’s taken another step. He’s stronger, has more confidence and swagger. In the past, he was unclear when to post, and when to duck in. Now he understands, and uses angles more.” m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpost?blogname=jeff-goodman&id=630&src=desktop

Man - we might be really good this season. A dominant post player in a league like ours can swing the tide a lot of nights.

I'd still have liked to have Washington this year, but if he is a legitimate shot blocker then 2014-2015 could see La Salle a dominant A10 inside team---which seemed to be mainly reserved for former A10 Xavier in the past. And with the three transfer/redshirt guards coming in 2014 La Salle could be a tournament challenger for the foreseeable future. Means more $$$ (for a new stadium?).

Jerrell figured it out at the end of the season. That dude needed stay on the court in every game after Steve got hurt. It was a total blessing in disguise since he figured out to do so and became an absolute beast in the process.
I thought Jerrell and Ty had some really great chemistry last year. I don't know if it's trackable to see how many assists from one player when to the player who scored. But I would guess that Ty and Jerrell's pairing would jump out statistically. And with Ty getting more minutes and Jerrell really getting it, look out.
One of my favorite part of the videos came in the K-State one. Jerrell walks in after everyone else since he won that game and made all those FTs with this cocksure bounce and head nod. It's really rare when you can visually see the lightbulb just pop on and he realizes he can be dominant.
G said the same thing about Zack in the off-season last year, about him making a leap. He was pretty right about that.

Someone also said tongue-in-cheek last year that if G and everyone was right about Steve we'd be a Final Four team. Even though Steve wasn't on the court for the stretch run, we were two wins away from that prediction coming true.

To me, the game that I first saw Jerrell turn the corner was against SJU. I know the box only shows 10/5 for him, but he came out and went on a run in the 2nd half where he just abused the SJU front line. He seemed to get it a little bit then but was still inconsistent, and then suddenly he was forced to focus more and he came through.
I'm excited to see what we can do in the front court this season. Steve and Jerrell together for 12-15 minutes a game could be awesome.

He went nuts on Aiken 2) Maybe I am discounting how much we will miss Galloway. Duren dropped 29 I believe but at least 20 of those points were from Galloway penetrating. 3) Garland and Zack were turnover machines with a lot of "WTF" plays... Garland is not nearly as good as Galloway at driving and kicking.

yes, to go 10 & 5 against supposedly one of the best shotblockers in the league is no small feat. Jerrell had also shone brilliantly agaisnt DAYTON in January, when he beat them punch for punch down the stretch in a 'last goal wins' kind of game. (I just double checked this, and Dayton took the last shot but missed a buzzer beater hurl to end the game.)
Jerrell laid down 16 & 5 in that game! That was also the game in which La Salle had four dunks in a row (but only won by 72-70).

....and in that game, there was a stretch where Dayton turned the ball over on what seemed like 15 straight possessions. I feel like we should have won that game by 20.
