Great to hear that La Salle is expanding the campus when properties come available. Does anyone know if there is an existing plan for this site or is this simply a situation where we had to buy it for unplanned future expansion.

We should use that land to build the largest TGIFriday's in the country.

This was an inevitable purchase for the school, and I like it, even if it ends up having nothing to do with an eventual new arena. That said, I like that spot for one.

Does anyone know if there is an existing plan for this site or is this simply a situation where we had to buy it for unplanned future expansion. The plan is too immediately use it for parking and build attachment to the university main campus. The building itself is not useable as several years of unuse has pretty ended any functionality of the building. It was a private sale to the school from the city/state so there wasn't really allowed to be an open disclosure.

Heard rumblings that they were going to make that the possible Admissions building, with an alternate entrance to campus from that direction. Thinking that might have gotten squashed though, with plans for a dedicated admission building to be built out on the Soft Ball field area on West Campus. I think that change has come with the Business School plans, which I heard is still being finalized. But here's a question - so does La Salle own the land along Ogontz from the Armory to Lindly Ave, including that cleared green space at the corner? The area in question is highlighted HERE. If so, interesting.

The rumor swirled around about the armory since my sophomore year which was four years ago. I am currently taking grad classes. The plan I heard maybe 2 or 3 years ago in detail was this.
College hall and the admin building would be combined and completely renovated for a new business school. Or a new business school would be built where the current tennis courts are.
Both North dorms and Neuman would be renovated as well as an addition onto neuman.
A new admin building along with a parking lot would be built on part of the armory land.
A grand entrance at the intersection of somerville and ogontz would be built.
A parking garage would also be built in main parking lot near tom gola.
The first priority is the business school. One of my business professors said that they have received large donations for a new business school but that originally went to a new science building and the purchase of Germantown Hospital.
Last semester one of my professors told me that they had a significant rise in visits from all across the country and have already received large donations. Ill quote him "I wouldn't be surprised if our run had the same affect it did at Saint Joe's after their undefeated season."

Forgot hitting the lottery and building a satellite campus on the Moon Think "Welcome Center" on West Campus. ] Last semester one of my professors told me that they had a significant rise in visits from all across the country... Think your professor is mildly talking out his butt. Right on some, but I'm thinking he's speculating. Middle to late March run only gives you a month and half until May 1st, the deadline for fall admission. That's too little time to impact this fall's class with any significance, most decisions are made before or right around then. And our numbers back it up. BUT... next fall, yes. Visitations start to pick up in August and September. String last years run with a very solid season this year, that's how you maximize the Doug Flutie Effect for college basketball. College football gives you plenty of time for the college application process, where March Madness catches it toward the end. If La Salle wasn't on a applicant's short list before we started taking names in Kansas City, it wasn't going to be a month later. It's too much of a process in too little time. Heard the donation talk is true though.

Gotcha, but what threw me was that when you look at that area under google maps minus the satellite view, the east side of Ogontz is greened out with a Wakefield emblem, but the west side isn't. Not important, just curious though.

I have heard the same thing about that parking garage as well. Why I left it last on the list as well.
I have heard mix things about Belfield. I don't think it is part of wakefield, I believe that it is across the street from ogontz. Years ago the school purchased 19 acres of land where the comm building is and the christian brothers house. Not exactly sure where that extends though.
However my guess is they own some piece of it and if they wanted it they could probabaly have it.
Just went through a bunch of A10 teams who have had success recently or simply made the NCAA. Many have up to date facilities or renovations underway. VCU, Butler, Richmond, George Washington, George Mason all had some sort of renovation in their arenas in the past few years.
George Washington arena which started a 43 million dollar renovation in 2008 was completed by 2011 and it is absolutely awesome.
5,000 seats New team locker rooms A new seating chart for students and Athletic Director's Club members The Colonial's Club new scoreboards A new exterior design A new entranceway A new ticket booth

so looking at the campus on Google Maps, it seems to me that we could have a grand entrance now that would lead right into the parking lots by the St Basil Dorms on South Campus for visitors. That would be a nice feature to have as you could now bang a left off Broad and be dropped right into the middle of campus and avoid anything that may be a bit unsightly for parents of potential students.
