If they don't move some of these guys to get good talent in return they are going to be left with these guys rolling off contracts and getting zero in return, only to prolong the rebuilding. This thread took a pretty bad turn, I haven't seen this vitriol on a La Salle board in quite a while. As a mets fan, I advise you to cut ties now or forever pay your next version of bobby bonilla. I would also advise you start with the guy that pulled this move on saturday. It wasn't offensive, just uncomfortable. The thread is outrageously out of orbit. I am linking a thread on Bonilla. What a deal! www.celebritynetworth.com/articles/entertainment-articles/bobby-bonilla-baseball-contract/

The thing with the Ruin Tomorrow Jr. quip -- who among the prospects the Phillies traded away have turned into anything? A few are still out (the guys in the Pence trade) but aside from that it's been a lot of crap, for the most part, unless I'm completely forgetting. They had a window and Ruben was right to try and win it during that period of time. Both guys from the Pence deal (Singleton and Cosart) remain highly rated and D'Arnaud just headlined a deal for last year's Cy Young and all are still minor league age, so its not like they're career blanks. Beyond that, the Howard deal was literally the dumbest move in atleast a decade by any GM, fueled in large part by Amaro's pride in statistical ignorance.

Amaro's pride in statistical ignorance. I was looking for the right term to express what's wrong with Amaro and the entire Phillies front office. This is it. They must be the absolutely last team in the game to not even make a gesture toward making decisions based on advanced statistics. Might explain why they give big money to guys who don't make a lot of errors but still can't field their positions (at least not anymore) and never take walks.

Not sure if you're on twitter or follow baseball writers, but there are semi-regular jokes about statistical analysis being a passing fad because "only 29 teams adopted it".

The Phillies were one of the last teams to integrate after Jackie Robinson broke into the league, they were one of the last teams to look to Latin America for talent, why wouldn't they be last in terms of evaluating players statistically?

If Giannini gets any more tan, he'll begin to look like Snookie.
