Of course it's too early to tell, but that won't stop some people from jumping to outlandish conclusions and/or making absurd demands regarding the incoming president.

Will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out. I think his legacy will be in totally changing the campus from a quickly fossilizing one into an actual asset for the university.

The next guy should be a basketball season ticket holder and member of this message board

Wow, I think he can definitely say he left La Salle much better than he found it but this is an important moment for this school to make the right decision for the present and future of the school

The next guy should be a basketball season ticket holder and member of this message board haha totally agree. Break with tradition and name a lay person? I would think this means that Brennan's days are numbered. New president will bring in new AD.

Bro. Mike reinvented La Salle. The campus has completely changed since I graduated in '99. I also went to grad school/worked on campus and finished up in '07. It's even different since then.
It's kind of fitting that he's leaving right when our basketball team has become what it is. There's such a ton of school spirit and love. Not that he has anything to do with The Southwest Philly Floater or Ramon making a layup against Butler, but he steered the ship in terms of new construction which gave the school a badly needed facelift.
It will be really interesting to see what they end up doing in terms of the President as Christian Brother rule. That might be on the table since Christian Brothers are getting fewer in numbers.

Exactly… I cannot talk knowledgably about the current state of the Christian Brothers, but if it’s anything like the priesthood, ordinations are down. There may be a time when, by necessity, the school will be headed by a lay person permanently.

One name that was mentioned to me by a faculty member I'm friendly with as an ideal lay president: Dr. Richard Mshomba. A true academic and La Sallian in every sense of the word.

There's probably a decent pool of candidates in their 50s/early 60s who could do the job. But that might be the last time there's a Brother president if there's a 10-year run.

My biggest concern is that we get someone in the fold that can keep the vision moving forward for the university and that this person has the balls to take on the BOT when necessary.

Is it too much to ask that the next president immediately break ground on a $75Mill, 6,000 seat arena with a concourse, beer garden and Tony Luke's on premises?

Trust me, the odds are probably better than you think simply because there are not a whole lot of candidates in the Brothers (this is not a shot at the Brothers just a comment on the shrinking population.) When brother Mike took over he came from CBU in Tennessee (and was practiclly groomed for the position) but I don't see any other viable candidates among the Brothers.

This could be ideal timing for the Basketball programs, and Athletics in general. If La Salle has a bit of a run next year also the money from the tournament should be just beginning to pour in (I believe for the next 5-6 years or so) and a new president might well go for a new athletic center- for prestige and to keep the program a bit of a cash cow for the university.

Not sure if this is a joke or not but if you're serious you are also crazy. What do you think this is, pro sports where the new GM hires his own coach? A new president will have way too much to worry about then replacing the AD, particularly after a run to the Sweet 16.

The manner in which LaSalle University treats it's own is to be commended... One of the GREATEST influences in my life was Alonzo Lewis... I played 4 years for him in at Darby Township HS... At his memorial service at Chester High, the largest contingents were Darby Township Eagles and LaSalle Explorers... The mere fact that you guys place Dr. Richard Mshomba's name out there as a candidate says a lot about how you view your "own".... The fact that you guys are COMMITTED to giving Philly kids an opportunity to shine and play D1 ball at home say a LOT... #muchrespect

My nomination goes to Ed Turzanski, because really, who is gonna disagree with President Turzanski. You know that's a guy who knows the location of more than one missing body.

Brother Ed's name will inevitably come up, but he'd never take the job. I don't blame him since it'd really be a demotion. He IS La Salle, which is bigger than merely being president of La Salle.

Agreed THID, Brother Ed deserves a statue on campus, the only question is where to erect it? On one hand it'd receive the most exposure on the main quad or at the entrance of Olney Hall but I say we give him the rocky treatment and place it in front of Heyman. Obviously the pose for the statue will be the Jordan dunk.

Why not have a parting gift to Brother Michael. By announcing the fund raising effort for the " Brother Michael" Sports Complex. Maybe that will get the Trustees motivated. Sure as hell beats a gold watch for retirement!

Here are the two POVs concerning Br. Mike and Brennan:
1) A new president will want a new person in place, especially since the school is completely on the map. Dr. G just inked a lengthy deal. Dr. Tom already looked for a new job. Easy call.
2) On top of the basketball team making the Sweet 16, the girls' soccer team has also been nationally ranked and is a power in the A-10. The track team has continued its success despite the passing of the beloved Torp. I'm pretty sure we have a very high graduating rate for athletes as well as overall GPA. The athletic department has become something to be very proud of despite facing a small budget compared to similar schools.
