CJ already left school, I believe. I think he's just declaring in case he does well at a team tryout or summer camp as a matter of formality. He's likely headed to Europe.

Best of luck to him. Always felt that Martelli wasted this guy by not pushing him to be more of a post player, in addition to his jump shooting. Realistically, not much chance at the NBA, but he'll have a good career overseas.

Realistically, not much chance at the NBA, but he'll have a good career overseas. Biggest problem with him not playing in the post on offense was that he wasn't a particularly good player away from the basket either. he's like a 35% career 3-pt shooter. basically Aiken was successful on alley-oop dunks, a couple put backs and shooting 1-3 from 3 pt land every night for 11 points a game. His timing and leaping ability on defense was phenomenal but against stronger guys he got knocked around and off his game as well. Wishing him the best but the NBA is not likely to be a destination for him at this point, he could take the route Galloway probably will need to take if he wants to get there, by becoming a dominant player in Europe for 2 or 3 seasons relatively quickly.

From what I understand, Aiken has already hired an agent. No way he can return to St Joe's.

Heard he's not even on campus at this point. Read over in the Hawk's board that he's been out in Vegas working out. Still aren't sure if this is a big loss for them, or an instance of addition by subtraction (cough cough Aaric).

He's one of the top 5 shot blockers in the country, and he never fouls...it's definitely a big loss. Losing Jones and Aiken = .500 season at best for the hawks in 2014.

Still aren't sure if this is a big loss for them, or an instance of addition by subtraction (cough cough Aaric). Personally, I think it's addition by subtraction. By the mid-point of last season, Aiken looked like he was going through the motions. Teams figured out how to attack him and his shot blocking numbers went way down the latter part of the season. The only thing he could do on offense was go up and get alley-oops, which look great and excite the crowd, but will not win you many games if you can only do it a few times a game. Opposing teams were able to defend him with physically strong guards who could just push him around. He was a lousy ballhandler and there was no way he could beat them off the dribble. Instead, the Hawks will insert Bembry into the 3 spot. He's a very good player and should eventually be much more productive than Aiken. Bembry has a lot of guard skills but his is also painfully thin, so he may have problems with physical guards like Aiken did, but he at least has a chance to do some damage because of his ability to put the ball on the floor. The Hawks could be pretty good but it really depends on Kyle Molock's health and ability to make shots from the perimeter.

I can verify what kjmac12 said .. He signed with an agent .. Its a done deal. I think it was a foolish decision.

Couple things... 1 - Was he a head case that it's "addition by subtraction" 2 - 35% isn't great but it's not particularly bad...for a big man He wasn't particularly strong down but his shot blocking was impeccable. I would imagine that his departure would be a loss to the team because of what he provided on the defensive end. Offensively, he's not developed and I can't imagine him developing much more. I think declaring for the pros is a bad move right now for him but I wish him the best.

Yeah, what kind of dummy makes 6 figures for his age 21 basketball season rather than play for free at a mid-level team in a mid-level conference? Its not like one more season was the difference between Europe and the NBA.

MisterD. A lot of assumptions there ... Six figures Maybe, maybe not ... How about mid five figures to play in outer mongolia versus staying in school, getting a degree and winding up in the D league. We was sold a "Bridge" by some profit driven agent. He's just not ready ... My opinion. Either way, i wish him luck.

I have a less talented big man friend who made that a decade ago bouncing around Europe. Remember most overseas is good salary plus they pay your housing, transportation and stipends. Aiken will get 6 figures easy.
