I know it's only two days since he announced he was leaving and I'm sad to see him go, but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on what will happen to his scholarship? Will they use it this year on a late signee or bank it for next year?

Giannini is going to take the scholarship money and invest it in a penny stock and hopefully it will increase in value to where he could put a down payment on a new arena.

Will they use it this year on a late signee or bank it for next year? That's the $64k question right now. My guess is G will try to use it this year because he already has 4 scholarships (Duren, Mills, Garland, and Dunn) to give after next season and I doubt if he wants to try and fill five spots next year. But, he'll be selective and only use it if he can find a very good player. It's not like a few years back when he was caught shorthanded and had to sign a couple kids just so he had enough players to practice. I believe Tyler McLeod and Ajen English are still available, or possibly there will be interest in another transfer. Not sure if there is interest in Juan'ya Green or Ameen Tanksley, but Jeff Goodman's transfer list is now at 350 players and counting, so there might be some players on there that the coaching staff will look at. I hope that DJ's leaving doesn't have an effect on the plans to redshirt Amar Stukes. I love the kid and think he'll be a great replacement for Tyreek, but he could really use the redshirt year to get stronger and improve his outside shot. He would not be a good replacement for DJ only because there there's no guard in the rotation bigger than 6'3" and they need someone who can cover opposing swingmen and small forwards when they play four guards.

Thanks kjmac12. I'd be surprised if he took a transfer only because we could use a player next fall, but I guess it's kind of like the NFL draft where you should pick up the best player available on the board. That's amazing that there's that many D-1 players transferring. That's pretty much 1 player per school. As far as Stukes, I agree, hopefully they still redshirt him.

On the other hand, if G uses the nscholarahip for 2014 that's 5 (right?). So Stukes could play this year, and he might want to given La Salle has a good chance to be in the tournament next year for a run.

Picking up a good transfer with two years eligibility would make sense and help balance classes by adding a junior player with R.Brown who is the only player in his class. I would bet on a sharp shooting transfer who is 6-2 or bigger or maybe someone like J.Bond who can play guards in the 6-4 or 6-5 range.

I don't know. I'm going to miss Dj more than I'll probably realize at this point, but if his departure gives us a crack at Jaylen Bond, it could be a blessing in disguise.
On a side note - Is Bond going to be an injury liability moving forward? I think he missed a gross majority of this past season, then returned to single digit minutes in the last four games he appeared in. Is it as "high-risk, high-reward" as I'm imagining with him?

I'm not 100% certain about this, but if La Salle ever was involved with Jaylen Bond, I don't think they are anymore. If they're going to fill DJ's scholarship this year, it's going to be with another guard. And Bond has little to no guard skills. He's an undersized 4, and this team does not need one of them right now.
