I think they should just start practice 30 seconds earlier.

One "common sense" rule that needs to be implemented is the 10 second rule. A team should only get 10 TOTAL seconds to bring the ball across half court. Now a team can call a timeout after 9 seconds and then still have another 10 seconds after the timeout to get the ball across midcourt.

This may not require a rule change, but, I would like to see more consistency on the block/charge call with more benefit given to the offensive player.

I heard one of the College Basketball gurus on the radio saying that the NCAA would consider adopting the NBA rule for the block/ charge call. Let me admit that I do not really understand what that means but I thought this would be an area of concern.

Coachd, would you enforce your same rule after 5 seconds on inbounds plays? Timeouts are limited. If a team can go into a press and force the other team to burn a timeout, that's sometimes good enough. It shouldn't be an automatic turnover, if there are timeouts available and you choose to use them, fine. The NCAA already banned calling timeout while falling out of bounds as a way to cut down on teams burning timeouts to be able to go back and undo certain turnovers. However, timeouts are a commodity and I don't like to see their value diminished.

It is not about timeouts Hykos. It is that you only should have 10 seconds total of the shot clock to get the ball over the half court line. Seems like common sense to most that I have spoken to.
The 5 second rule is not clear-cut as it is based on the time ticking in the refs head and not time ticking off the game/shot clock. So no, it would not apply to that as each inbound play gets its' own countdown.

The first practice will be allowed 42 days prior to the first game. The Midnight Madness will now begin earlier.

I don't care for either rule change.

AngryAl has got to mellow out or he might get a heart attack. As they say in the intro song to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie riffing series: "Repeat to yourself it's just a show. I should really just relax."

The Midnight Madness will now begin earlier. Rather an interesting idea. Midnight Madness could now start at 700 PM.

I will never forget, When Hahn and I were both at La Salle and the players pelted the fans with hard candy @ Midnight Madness. What a disaster. Some old guys had to have medical tratment.

Percy, I wonder if any of the thrown candy hit 4Ever. That would have been an irony.
The Hahn era was a train wreck. There was your candy throwing and even one preseason game was cancelled due to the lights going out. There was the meltdown in Paradise and we could go on and on....
Staying in the present we are at a far better place than we have been in a generation. I am happy and you should be too.
