Good news. La Salle will be in the Paradise Jam Tournament in November, 2013. Maryland is probably the best team in that tournament. And yes, Maryland will be a tournament team next year: www.paradisejam.com/teams/

The field was known a while ago, but nice to see the bracket. I tend to think La Salle is the best team in this.

Kjmac I think was right about seedings according to last year's rpi. I think we get Morgan St because Maryland might not want to play them?
Anyone know if this tournament was on TV last year?

Good news for those going to tournament is that due to our late start time you can fly in day of first game and not a day ahead of time.

G told a group of us at the banquet that Marist and Morgan State had their seedings flipped because Maryland was already going to be playing Morgan State earlier that week. If I understood him correctly, four of the teams in the tournament will be going down to the VI a couple days earlier than the rest of the field and will play each other to get a fourth game in. The fourth game will be considered part of the exempt tournament and won't count against their schedule limit. I forget who the other two teams were that would get the fourth game. Marist is actually the 8 seed and would have played La Salle in the first round but were moved up because of this situation. CBS College Sports will carry some of the games. Not sure if it's only the semis and the finals, but whatever doesn't make it onto CBS will be streamed live. There's a link for that on the PJ website.

Kjmac, are you comfortable with this fourth game which is in effect an exhibition game? Other than getting to St. Thomas a few days earlier, what's the upside? Play probably Marist or Loyola Marymount. Risk of injury? Thanks for the TV info. Looks like I'm subscribing to CBS Sports Network next year. Hotel rooms at Frenchmen's Reef run about $400 a night and airfare looks like $600 and higher on Kayak.

Bonding. Brennan told me in LA that this team really likes each other and these trips promote bonding and team chemistry. He said donations to the Explorers Club help pay for these types of trips. Plus recruits get to see that this team travels to cool places. Plus I think an extra game can only be a good thing. Maybe avoid an Cenn Conn St let down.

Hotel rooms at Frenchmen's Reef run about $400 a night and airfare looks like $600 and higher on Kayak. I guess I wasn't clear about this. It is confusing but I believe I understood what G told us. There will be 8 teams participating in the Paradise Jam, which is considered an exempt tournament. Exempt tournaments can include three or four games for each team in the tournament, and those games only count as one game against the NCAA schedule limit. Typically, the Paradise Jam has been a three game, three round tournament. But because exempt tournaments can include as many as four games, the promoters of the tournament are allowing four of the eight team field to play a fourth game before the real tournament begins. These games will not be exhibition games. They will count against their regular season records like any other game. But for some reason, only half of the tournament field is permitted to play this extra game. La Salle is not one of the four teams getting the extra game. They will only be playing the three game tournament shown on the bracket.

So La Salle can play 30 regular season games 2013-2014? (Found this on WikiAnswers): "Regular Season Games Allowed:
31 games in one season, consisting of 27 regular schedule games + up to 4 games if in an in-season tournament like the Preseason NIT or Great Alaska Shootout (my quick research showed most are just 3 game tournaments), or
29 games if not participating in any in-season tournaments.

So La Salle can play 30 regular season games 2013-2014? Yes, it will be a 30 game regular season this year. Sixteen A10 games and 14 OOC games. OOC schedule so far is: Home: Manhattan (Homecoming game on Nov.9th), Temple, Hartford, Siena Away: Villanova, Miami, Penn State, Penn Neutral: Paradise Jam (3 games) That leaves 3 to schedule.

KJ, is that Miami a two for one and they will be coming to Philly the following season or do we just play them twice in Miami?

Miami game is second of three game series. First two were in Miami and third game (14-15) will be at Palestra.

Given a weakened A10, I'd think the three teams to be scheduled would hpefully have decent projected rpi humbers, and/or play 1-2 on the road for road win help in La Salle's rpi (that is, no Central Connecticut States).

CCSU was an unexpected and bad loss for fans but they weren't RPI killer like Siena and Sacred Heart. No more of those games at Gola during Christmas. Especially if ticket prices rise as expected.
