Are over thier heads. Siena just announced they are upgrdaing their B-Ball facilities spending 17MM. What is LaSalle doing to stay relevent, nothing. They are planning to do zero with the high school gym we play in and they never will come up with the cash to build a stand alone. These two need to be shown the door and we need to bring in a business guy to run the university and an AD who has the ability to speak in public and raise money. We are doomed.
Once again Siena is pumping 17MM in to their B-Bal facilites afte a sub 10 win year, LaSalle after a Sweet 16 run will be doing nothing, what a joke.

By reading this I can only assume you've pledged a substantial amount of money to this project. We all appreciate your generosity.

I like this. This is like when they make a sequel to a terrible movie, and no one is really sure why, but it's perversely entertaining.
From the makers of "We will never win with G," it's "Why can't we be more like Siena?" No logic will be admitted after the first 15 minutes.

Something WILL be done, don't act like the school is just ignoring the issue.

The fact that Brother Mike and the school are starting to really acknowledge the problem is a good start. That is and was always the first step.
Brother Mike now can make a big splash by getting something done in the near future. What is the near future? 3 years, 5 years, or 10 years? Also, will he be around to make this happen? His term ends June 2014.
It is obviously much easier to fundraise and make projects happen when you go to the Sweet 16 and NCAA tournament. We have a great shot to get back to the tournament next year. The window is wide open now as people will be more generous and willing to help out now than when we have a 15 win season. That is why it is critical to make inrounds in the next two years. If the school doesn't make those inroads it will be very difficult to get something done later if we fall back and out of the tournament.

I agree with 88. I think the program really opened their eyes this year, especially given the turnout at the Sweet 16. I do believe that if LaSalle makes the NCAAs the next 2 years (3 consecutive) then it's essentially a given that a new arena will be in progress (near completed) within 5 years. If LaSalle makes another deep run next year then something could happen sooner (meaning plans for the arena will be announced within a few months of the season ending).

I think the impact the tournament had on the campus atmosphere far exceeded the expectations the school had when implementing the master plan. Their idea from jump street was that a good Basketball program enhances the sense of community for current students which ultimately translates to a connection as alumni down the road and increased support. I'll be honest, part of me expected most of the students to not even realize we were in the damn thing, seeing the streets filled with kids after the Ole Miss game blocking traffic and celebrating without being hostile and the subsequent pride in being "La Salle" was an amazing sight and I'm certain the school took notice that this could be like a regular thing.

Please enlighten us as to A.) the time; B.) the talent; C.) the treasure that you have donated to the success of the La Salle program. Perhaps you should volunteer to contact some of the wealthy alums and request they donate $1 million or more to the new arena. Perhaps you have a talent that can assist in fund-raising or building of the arena. Perhaps you are one of the dozens who can afford to send a large donation but didn't realize the university needs you. There is a lot of work that we must do before we blame Brother Mike or Dr. Brennan or the BOT... they will follow our lead.

Siena, are you one of the same people, either in SJU or La Salle's camp, that gawked when SJU was moving places with their new facilities and we were going nowhere? I know the SJU people have their foot still in their mouths, but why do certain people like sawdoctors now say that we're being passed by Siena? Is it a convenient choice because the evidence with SJU facilities really hasn't ever panned out? Is it because you want to redeem yourself after starting the we will never win with G thread, and being wrong 75% of the time, ie 24 times this season?
The reason we have worse facilities than Binghamton and Monmouth and now Siena is donation $. I don't feel like La Salle has been wasting my checks, other than the refunds they should owe everyone for overpaying for a food plan because the guy in jail was literally buying a yacht with it.

Brother Mike said the arena happens after the business center. My question is how much are we trying to raise for the business building and how much do we have so far?

Isn't it up to them to get the fundraising support? Isn't that what they get paid to do? And, I think it's fair at this time to assume they will do nothing since we are still playing in a high school gym despite being a longtime member of the big 5, despite sending players to the NBA, despiite a highly ranked team 20 years ago, and despite several years in the A10. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but why should we blindly assume any change is coming without any evidence of it?

If you want change, make a donation and buy tickets. I did both and it feels great. In fact, it feels a lot better to do that and make some change than to do nothing but bitch about facilities. We can't tap the state like Temple or URI or UMass or VCU or George Mason. We need alumni bucks. Can you pitch in?

The team still plays in a high school gym. Maybe if enough people "bitch" about it, something will change.

So how does bitching here change the fact that we can't rub a genie like state schools and have facilities money appear like at TU, VCU, URI, etc? Stay positive, spread the word, get your classmates to give/buy. This program is headed in a great direction. Whining about facilities the coach has successfully overcome makes you and this board look petty and unappreciative. G has his career and living directly affected about facilities and he is making huge progress despite the issue -- I don't see any whining in public by G, like you are. The Admin is accessible. Pick up the phone and say your case. Just don't cry about it here. Please.

Pick up the phone and say your case. Just don't cry about it here. Please. I agree, this program is heading in a good direction. I agree, coach G has done a great job despite the facilities. I've "picked up the phone," and I've emailed the University. And while I or my alumni friends don't have deep pockets, we've all contributed regularly. This is a D1 program playing in a fairly successful conference. A Big 5 school. While we don't need facilities like Temple, the University has managed to build a new science center and purchase Germantown hospital. Why can't they at least figure out a way to sell respectable La Salle University gear on gameday? In the arena. Or at least have the bookstore open for every game? And why just one concession stand for sold out games? Why can't they have online ticket sales, when I can buy them for the local D3 college's football games? And I've contacted the school about this, and nothing has been done. In fact, last year, when I asked about online tickets early in the season, I was told it would be up and running in a week. It never happened. Some of these aren't difficult issues to address. Isn't this the appropriate forum to note that? If that seems like "whining", so be it.

This is absolutely the forum to discuss facilities. It is a huge problem for us.
I will say it may be best to temper the facility talk and let us enjoy the afterglow of the season we just had. Everyone here knows it is a problem I would think. If you don't you are probably living under a rock. No sense in opening wounds so soon after the season we just had.
It is very relevant for the school and program right now because La Salle will never, ever get as much use from goodwill to raise funds for the facility as they have now. Brother Mike and the administration really have the spotlight on them because getting this project done will just get more difficult the further we move away from our Sweet 16 appearance. Inroads will have to be made in the next couple of years.
And to those expecting the white knight to ride to the rescue and donate the funds for the facility, I wouldn't count on it. La Salle is going to need to put some work in to get it done and that includes financially.
With all this being said, let's see how it plays out in the next couple of years. At least the project is publicly being discussed.

But isn't when things are good and the most people are paying attention exactly the time to start lobbying for improvements?
