The worst kind of 'journalist' is the Gonzalez/Cataldi type that writes outlandish things that no rational person could possibly believe in order to generate attention. I put journalist in quotation marks because anyone embracing that mindset isn't a journalist at all, and is really nothing more than a carnival barker drumming up attention for themselves and the company that employs them.
It really goes beyond being needy and attention starved. It's unethical and a total perversion of the profession. Sadly, it's accepted as a legitimate form of journalism by unknowing people in this day and age.
I can't get too worked up about the dude who wrote this article since it's clear he's an amateur. The piece kjmac linked is the only work of his that I've read, or will read. It's sad that it was even published by a site that's trying to establish itself as a go-to source for real sports fans.

I can't get too worked up about the dude who wrote this article since it's clear he's an amateur. The piece kjmac linked is the only work of his that I've read, or will read. It's sad that it was even published by a site that's trying to establish itself as a go-to source for real sports fans. Just going to clear some things up. You are all entitled to your opinion and I agree, Dr. Moore's four articles about La Salle basketball have not been the rosy ones that have been written by the Inquirer and Daily News. AJ Moore has a doctorate in Journalism from Temple and a Bachelor's from La Salle. He has written for the Inquirer and LA Times and is a frequent contributor to Basketball Times and YESNetwork.com. Whether you agree with his column or not (and he is not a Philahoops writer as much as a guest columnist), he is hardly an amateur writer. This guys other articles were: 1) about how La Salle probably wouldn't get into the NCAA tournament 2) about the last two decades of problems for the La Salle basketball program 3) about how La Salle's run in the tournament was aided by a lot of good fortune and luck (and barely anything about how those kids played their asses off and deserved all the accolades and success they had). • If you want to say that his article about all of the things that need to go right for La Salle to make the dance is jaded, fine, but keep in mind that only Ole Miss won their conference tournament (I believe out of 11 remaining) when they were not already in the tournament. • I would say that the last 20 years of La Salle basketball prior to this one might have been the most perilous of what, any team with relative success in the entire country? • I'd say that the third article mentioned was less of a column and more of a list of all the things that went right for La Salle. Calling it luck could come off as negative, but I don't think it is. I've spoken with Dr. Moore a few times and I wouldn't say that he has an agenda or is vindictive at all. Maybe he was jaded in the same way that I've felt jaded at times, but calling him amateur or a hack is a bit hard, in my opinion. If you want to say that about John Gonzalez, I won't fight you on it, but I don't think the same thing applies. Thank for reading. Dr. Moore will likely continue to be published when he wishes to write (something he does pro bono) and I hope your opinion of him changes because I truly believe he wants the school and team to be successful.
