The only reason I could see G being willing to stay is if there is a major committment to faciliities made very soon. The reality is that the gym was, and remains, the biggest obstacle to our having any kind of continued success going forward. If he believes that the gym isn't going anywhere anytime soon then he should leave now while his stock is on the rise and no one should hold it against him if he does.

It's larger, but it's older and very ugly. The press facilities are outdated and the seats are fairly uncomfortable. It's basically a big concrete hole.

I would love to have it at La Salle. Goes to show just how bad our facility is.

Maybe I took it for granted when I was there, but I didn't like it, and the practice facility there is pretty poor. Yes it's better than the Gola but as you indicated, that just shows you how bad the Gola is. That said, RU is looking at renovations.

It won't be Bucknell's coach....Paulsen just re-upped on a new multi-year deal to stay. There's also Tommy Dempsey. He had a lousy season in his first year at Binghamton, but he turned around Rider's program pretty well before that(including a couple wins against us), and he's a Pa. guy, who isn't looking to move too far from his home.

Agreeing to a deal won't stop BCS schools from going after coaches. Steve Alford agreed to a multi-year extension with New Mexico and 10 days later bolted for UCLA. If a BCS school wants a coach bad enough thay will get them.

Summary of G on Missanelli -- not asked specifically about the Rutgers opening.
Not currently many desirable jobs out there relative to being an A-10 coach. Personal issues can come into play in evaluating job changes. Really excited about the team he'll have next year -- no mention of the La Salle job, just the team.
Translation, fwiw: Unlikely for 2nd-tier BCS job, could be available after next year, (implicitly) keep heat on La Salle to upgrade since G didn't toss out the traditional "I'm happy to be at La Salle"...

Xavier can't keep their coaches when they get hot. I don't know how Butler is keeping theirs unless they gave him a 15 year deal and a huge annuity if he honors it. Pete Gillen, Thad Matta, Sean Miller. XU said their program is now a brand and its the program and not the coach that makes them tick. I think G is the one making laSalle tick. So unless laSalle builds an arena and starts getting consistent success like XU they better do all they can to keep G.

The choice is whether more money is the most important or the opportunity to become a legend is more attractive. If the program continues on its current path-and I am not talking about sweet 16s-just good solid seasons with tournaments in our better years, he will forever be remembered as the coach who saved LaSalle.Coaching at LSU might not lead to fame AND fortune but it can lead to some fame; being well respected and forever remembered. Also, the pay isn't terrible and hopefully can be improved. If I was a Coach, I would like to be remembered in the same group of legendary Big 5 coaches such as Dr. Ramsey, Jack Kraft, Massimino, Speedy, and many others. In another 15 years, his statue can be out front of whereever playing!

I would say that to get a school in our situation to the Sweet 16 should already have G at "legendary" status among La Salle basketball followers.
