This trip was so worth it. If you are thinking I am so glad I didn't go to California do yourself a favor and go to the tournament WHEN we get in again. That pre game party was worth the trip alone. The energy, excitement, and family feeling was unreal. Make sure you get to the post season banquet if you can. Lionel said he has not been home since Dayton! He is a real nice guy. I spent a lot of time talking with Tom Brennan and Bro Mike. These guys want what we want. Everything you are thinking so are they. Bottom line is we are a small private school. We need donations to make ANYTHING happen. The business school had to get done because all the other Philly schools had a new one. Also the business alums donate the most money. He said LaSalle gets very little donations to the basketball program. Bro Mike signed me up to be a fund raiser!!! Here I am telling him how he has to do this and that and he said fine, get me the money and I will do it. I did advise we use Xavier's marketing plan for the school. He was Interested to hear more. I asks Tom Brennan short of giving you the money for a new arena, what can we do to help. He said laSalle needs money to travel to these team tournaments. He said these preseason and abroad tournaments are so important for bonding of the players and coaches. He would like to start chartering flights for our team. He said they look to the Explorer Club for the money to these things. Bro Mike asked me to tell everyone please give what you can consistently. He said any money is great but they really need the steady money. He also asked me to tell everyone to see if they could light a fire in other alums to send some money. The bottom line is we are competing with the big boys who have unlimited resources. It's going to be tough. It's going to take a grass roots effort. Brother Mike is willing to listen. He said he gets tons of emails saying build an arena. He wants to but he needs the money. Ok more later. Off to Explore Pasadena.

Thanks 89...
Did they comment on what they have in mind for the tournament money that is in the pipeline (ie. to benefit the whole school, athletic department, basketball program?)

That's all cool, and I really appreciate you sharing. I get we are playing against the big boys money-wise and we need donations, etc.
But it does also need to be pointed out that the incoming Freshman next year, living in a dorm room, is going to be paying roughly 45,000 dollars a year in just tuition and room and board. It's not like the only students are orphans that the school is educating out of some Christian charity.

Administration better not miss the boat on this one because this is a big opportunity. Complete the business school and announce the new basketball facility within the next year or so for sometime in 2016-17 time frame. Does anyone know what kind of profit will be realized from this NCAA run, 4 teams leaving A10 plus other things like sales related to NCAA run. Would another run next season of 1 win possibly bring the real possibilty of an announcement. I am assuming much of the profit gained from this year will pay down a substntial percentage of new business school. I think we generally average about 250-300 thousand a year in profit but this season with what is going on it must be 8 or 9 million or am I way off base

Fair point, but I've always been under the impression that it's not a percentage that have to pay that full amount in tuition. A private university often marks up its tuition just to appear competitive, as though a lower cost of attendance actually hurts the reputation of the institution. I could be wrong, but I think $45k is a nominal figure, although the actual amount is still substantial.

I told Brother Mike announce the new arena Monday morning. He looked at me like I was nuts. I said listen to me... Announce the new arena Monday morning.dont out a timeline.. No details.... Just announce that we are committed to our program and being a national powerhouse. He was listening. I said your are not lying. You have every intention to build one. The details need to be worked out. Just do it. Lets see if we can get the announcement. It sends a message to everyone that we are not a fly by night. In Old Pasadena. Amazing place. Was a run down 22 blocks with abandoned buildings and drug addicts in the 80's. turned it around. Little vision and lots of a faction gets things done. I did not ask about the money but I will. I will be speaking with these guys next week.

89, great recap. Along with what Neumann said, and what I said in a different thread a couple weeks back, I want to know where the money goes.
From this standpoint - I graduated in '97. There are like 500 more full-time undergrads now at about $47,000 than when I graduated when tuition was around $32,000. That's an extra $7.5 mill coming into school per year in just tuition. Don't tell me all of that went to new dorms/science center/some of business school/salaries. Some of that has to be saved and banked, no? I'm no accountant, but some of that money has to be gaining interest somewhere, and if isn't the school's accountant needs to be replace yesterday.

I meet like 5 people that actually paid the full amount in tuition when I went there. Also, they just bought a bunch of new land, a hospital, a shopping center, a science building and are about to build a new business building.

I can't believe that number. $47k a year is just absurd. I realize few people actually end up paying that, but what happened to La Salle, the college that working people sent their kids to? Either that's not really happening anymore, or these kids are walking off campus mired in six figures of student loan debt after four years. Sad.

I would venture a guess and say it ends up being about 32-34K per year with schollies of varying amount. My youngest attends Hofstra and cost is around 50k a year and we pay just over half that amount with schollies.

There's a price to pay in order to join the American economy. Every private school costs a lot of money. State schools are cheaper but not by much and are beholden to the whims of politicians. Graduating might leave a student in a ton of debt (and I'm still paying off my grad school bills) but without at least a BA, you don't stand too much of a chance in the post-economic meltdown world.

Just got back from campus. There were about 100 people probably. If school wasn't closed there would be a ton more. You have NEVER seen a group of people who looked like they needed to go to bed more. Anyways, they literally thanked everyone who was there. They did the All We Do Is Turn Up thing for everyone.
I got my picture taken w/ Ty in my Southwest Philly Floater shirt which arrived today! He didn't know there were shirts out there I don't think. Ramon totally lights up the room, even though we were outside.
Dr. G saw my shirt and cracked up. He had no idea that they were out there, too. He is SUCH a good guy.

Duren duren I said it exactly like that. I am an emotional guy. I have my own career and practice. LaSalle has helped make me who I am. I don't have to worry about offending people or being liked. I was doing my own thing for the past 7 years as we wallowed in misery. My juices are flowing now. LaSalle needs an outside perspective. I of course was very respectful but also emotional. I also have raised money for LaSalle in the past which helps. If you guys have solid ideas they will listen. Bro Mike wants the arena. He know how big he wants it. It comes down to the budget. Will it be a boring simple box. Or can we swing a nicer one with some Bella and whistles. He said it would really help if we could start filling Gola. I know 88 will go off on this but it's hard to get the board to build an arena when you are not filling this one. He's thinking 5000 seats

5,000 is a decent number. I would hope for 6,000 or so but 5,000 could definitely work if it is a nice arena.

Is this a number he tossed out, or is this what you inferred from the talk? You're completely correct that we need to capitalize on the momentum. My guess is that they'll sit on it this season, see how the tourney run has impacted attendance and student involvement before moving forward. But here's to hoping.

5000 is perfect because to many times schools arenas are to big and have that empty feeling particularly when half filled (Temple is good example). Bigger is not always better.
