I can't see how he could be effective in any way, even if he does play.

I do not believe he could make a serious contribution given his injury- but-there are always intangibles, and maybe a 90 second appearance would be inspirational. However, must know if he could hurt self-cannot let that happen. At this time we all must have a high level of confidence in the Coach's decision.

You seriously think they could get by Arizona (or that D*** team) without him?

Have to see how he is tomorrow after workout today. If no pain then he does a light practice. If no pain on Thursday then he goes out there and plays for a couple minutes, if effective he plays a couple more minutes. This is the time of year you have to shake off the rust and play even if you are only 80%. If we could teach Taylor Dunn how to be taller then Zack could take all the time he needs... let's give it a go.

Gonzo also talks with his head up his ass. Gonzo couldn't report that the sky is blue without me doubting him.

I wouldn't play him. A bad 3 minute stretch can cost you the game at this level. I wouldn't put him on the floor hoping he can provide quality minutes when every possession is critical.

He will probably be available if Jerrell Wright and Rohan Brown both have 4 fouls. Other than that, no. Wichita State doesn't exactly have Xavier McDaniel so I don't think that will be the scenario. Ohio State may be a different story. All speculation on my part.

Tape his ankle heavily, get him out on the practice floor today. See how it goes. If he can jog and jump without any pain then he is ready. We need him to play defense in the paint and to provide some offensive punch (either take it to the hoop or dish it out). Put him in for one possession in the first half to see how he responds. We will need him for Saturday against Ohio State or Arizona so he has to "man up" and get out there.

If Zack can't go.. do we see a lot more of the Rohan/Jerrell lineup? Does the Garvinator get any buzz?

G said somewhere today that he hasn't run on the foot yet. Not likely he'll play.

Hunt hasn't shown us that he can do much. Could he grab rebounds and give us some putbacks and dish-off slams near the basket? Quite possibly; Taylor Dunn could see some minutes.
Maybe G will reveal the "secret weapon" on Thursday.

You have absolutely NO clue the nature or severity of the injury other than what has been reported (you don't even get that right, referring to his ankle when all reports are that it is foot ligament)so your inference that he is not playing becuase he is malingering or a coward ("man up" reference) is completely and totally off base and offensive. I am guessing that no one wants to be out there helping his team and be part of this experience than Steve. Only he and the medical staff know the nature and severity of the injury and pain. To suggest otherwise is way off base and needs to stop. You seem to be the #1 offender on this count.

He's thrilled for his teammates and coaches but it's killing him that he can't play.

The thing that puzzles me is Hunt. He played for Penn (or at least was on the roster) for several years. He's a graduate student so is no dummy. And he's 6'10". How could he not be played 3-5 minutes at a time to give Jerrell Wright a rest. Could he contribute less then Rohan Brown? I guess G thinks so but...

I agree with all those who think "coachd" is a fool. This is about the health and future of an indivudual not one game. Connective tissue injuries take much longer to heal than muscle injuries due to lack of blood flow in those areas. I am sure that Steve is wishing he could play rather than cheer.

Garvin Hunt played all of 9 minutes in '08 - '09 at Penn.

The only way to answer this is to say, "You'd have to see him play." And I did at Hartford. Let's just say my reaction was similar to Michael Scott's when Stanley started dribbling in the warehouse game on "The Office." He won't see the court unless we win or lose by 25+.

Steve Zack is an integral part of the future of this program.. and just like not lifting Davis' redshirt, it would be monumentally dumb to risk playing a hurt Zack. Would it even help? How helpful can he be... he'd have no lift, and probably get muscled down low anyway. Let's get through this weekend and give Steve one more week of healing...!

He has size but really has no hands or post moves. Brown is better at going for the rebound, despite his smaller stature. G knows this.

It was a joke... Zack is doing all he can to get back on the court. The doctor will tell him when he can play, it is not his decision anyway.
