I don't think the gym situation is close to being addressed as we had hoped. Hope I am getting wrong info but it does not look good at the moment. So your sources told you what? No improvements or no new building? Neither. I was told the administration thought the renovation could be done for about 5-10% of what it would actually cost. This is how disconnected they are. I guess they had complete sticker-shock when the costs came back. I have not heard anyone else confirm or deny that so at the moment it is not confirmed. Given how secretive La Salle is it may be some time before we hear anything else. Meanwhile the clock is ticking on G being able to sustain some success.

Mik, I know the guy that was going to pay for the renovation himself. According to what he told me, they started out thinking that it was going to be done in one offseason, this past one, then it turned into a 3-year project. Last I talked to him, he expected the project to start right after this season ends, but I guess we'll see.

Three years is longer than a new facility so that totally confuses me. We would need to find a place to play for 3 years if that was the case. Thanks for the update.

talkinball just seems to be hating on Speedy instead of giving a rational analysis of past problems. Moreover, whats the difference at this point? Our total focus should be on the here and now and winning now! It seems as if the closewr wew get to the opener, the more complaining is sewen on the board, Creates bad karma. Lets lighten up.

Let me correct/update what I said, the project would take three years to complete, but would be done in phases, just in offseasons. Flipping the court would be first, most important step. I think getting all the seating additions/realigned would take additionals offseasons to be done properly. There wouldn't be a need to play elsewhere during this time as far as I know.

Belfield, that's what my "sources" told me also. Nothing to this 'sticker shock'. Also heard that fundraising has been going very well for those wondering what the new guy is doing. Silent Auctions and Explorer Club donations won't get it done. Big Donations will. I also heard a surprise project will also happen that should excite the students. Also go on www.cityofbasketball.com and look at the pictures from the Open Gym. Picture on La Salle website only told a portion of the story due to the angle. COB website has a picture of Jerrell dunking which is great for two reasons. First, the number of students sitting in the stands and Second, the looks on some of the students watching Jerrell throw it down.

Do you know if this renovation is considered by the administration to be a stop gap measure for the next 5 to 10 years while they work on the fundraising for a new arena or is this supposed to be it for the next 20 years?

Cal, Seemed like a stop gap to me, with fundraising for new arena quietly underway.
