I see on a previous thread there was talk of recruiting Marin Maric, but even if signed he sounds like no more then apossible, long-term project. Given that next year could be a good one for la Salle is there a possibility of using a scholarship to get immediate help up front, since there seem to only be 2 reliable big men returning, and injury, fouls, etc. could easily hurt in a given game then even a guard oriented team seems to need at least 3 contributing big men to be a significant threat in the NCAA tournament.

I am really interested to see how the NCAA appearance impacts recruiting + enrollment next year.
I did a study for a class while I was at La Salle that did a correlation analysis between the MBB team win total, and the school's enrollment. There was a basic correlation, within ~93% if I recall, from a mathematical standpoint. There is a lot of interesting literature regarding this correlation in general in higher education.
Specifically for recruiting, I would like to get another scorer for when our Big 3 depart next year. Although I think our need for another talented big is key.

"The popularity of a successful sports team acts as advertisement for the university. This encourages more students to apply to it; a phenomenon known as the “Flutie effect”. This is a reference to Boston College’s Doug Flutie, whose miraculous pass in a 1984 football game contributed to a dramatic victory over the University of Miami. This play led to a large increase in applicants to Boston College the following year. The long-term impact on university admissions from the Flutie effect is uncertain. Maintaining the popularity that comes with a successful sports team involves a tremendous amount of resources and luck. Economists are divided on the degree and long term impact of the Flutie effect." - The Economist

G seems to be high on Davis (6'9" 270lbs)who is a redshirt freshman next season and will probably see 10-12 minutes a game behind Zack assuming G is pleased with his play. J.Bond would fit perfectly with this team but I suspect he may have no interest but who knows. That would be a very nice lineup adding Bond (6'6") and Stukes(6'2") in 2014 with two other recruits (probably shooting guard and ) who would join Wright (6'7"), Zack (6'10"), Peterson (6'5"),Lewis (6'3"),Brown (6'5") and Davis (6'9").

I would hope that Coach Giannini would be using Davis as the third big next year. Coach spent the year red shirting Davis - therefore Davis should know the system, has a year of college under his belt and had a year where he conditioned at the D-1 level. So I would definitely expect Davis to give our team that 10-12 minutes that lwc talked about in his post.

Thanks for information on Davis. My impression was that he wasn't especially highly rated in high school (no stars after name on recruiting sites- I think). Do they have any other scholarships and if so are there any junior college transfers available? A junior looking for some immediate impact might be interested (sort of like the junior college transfer quarterback Penn State got for 2013).

A junior looking for some immediate impact might be interested (sort of like the junior college transfer quarterback Penn State got for 2013). A lot of kids are not highly rated. Steve Zack wasn't rated highly either. He has contributed. Coaches need to find players that fit what they want to do on the floor more than find kids that have three starts or better from a recruiting service. La Salle is not going to get Top 50 big men unless they are local kids. Truth is I was told Davis is the most physical kid in the program. Our bigs don't like banging with him in practice. He will add an element that we don't have a lot of right now. I expect he will give us something tangible next year. La Salle cannot get many JUCO's in because we do not accept physical education credits. That is why it is difficult to get JUCO's. I wouldn't hold my breath for a JUCO kid.

I did not know that until just now, but we should not accept physical education credits. There's a line you have to draw somewhere.

Our biggest possible scoop at this point would be Ben Bentil... Jamel Artis is now off the board... I don't worry too much about it, I trust G's recruiting and he finds players that fit his system not necessarily the most athletic or highly regarded...

I liked Artis but he should be available in about two years because Pitt is a revolving door and he will be recruited over.

Is there a realistic shot at Bond? Because he would be a pretty cool fit.

I think there's an ESPN blurb \ opinion stating that the Joe's, Temple 7 Niagra would be a good fit. No mention of La Salle. Anyone close to the program hear any rumblings about Bond?

Joe's has a top 100 small forward coming into the program from St Pats I believe.. They are reloading with a good class... They could be losing a couple players though in addition to Jones...

Explorerman nothing is confirmed on J.Artis but fro I have read his grades are only thing holding up his committment to Pitt. You stated he was already recruited over and I was wondering who it is Pitt recruited over Artis.

Mike Young another 6'7 forward ESPN top 100 recruit Pitt did not recruit over Artis, at least not with Young. Young is an undersized 4, who is actually friends with Artis as they played together at St Benedict's for a year.

Bentil already seems highly regarded. From Rivals.com: Bentil may be looking to go as a package deal with good friend and HS teammate Austin Tilghman, who "G" offered last summer. The big question is, will a school like Georgetown be willing to offer Tilghman, who is currently considered more of an A10-level player, in order to get Bentil who is considered a BCS-level recruit. Another factor is their AAU coach is former St Joe's guard Terrell Myers and the Hawks have been recruiting both of them also. I have seen Bentil play once back in early February. He was the biggest kid on the floor and had 14 points in the first half, ending up with only 16 for the game. Clearly he is very athletic, but while I thought he should have dominated the glass he did not, he did not show the aggressiveness I would have liked to see. He will definitely need to be coached at the next level. I would compare him to a more athletic J. Wright. Legit 6'8" solid 225 lbs with good hands. Tilghman can play and not a fraid to shoot or take it to the hoop. I mentioned Bentil to Pappy after I saw him and he stated he thought St. Joe's was very involved.

Former SJU Hawk Terrell Myers is either their AAU or HS coach.

There is a post on a Pitt website 'pittblather.com' that states that another Pitt fee based website called 'panther24/7" reports that Artis made a verbal commit to Pitt. However, chatter on the sites indicates that no other national sites have confirmed this yet.

Has anyone heard anything in terms of Khalid Lewis's development over this season?
I know the biggest knock against him was his poor jump shot... It was going to be the focus of what he was working his season..

Um I think this helped our cause with recruits.. Haha.. Especially any guards looking for a home with the guard based offense..
What a fun style to watch if you were a guard

I had a call from a 60+ year old fan who asked me how to buy season tickets because of our style of play. He said it was just plain fun to watch. I can imagine what a HS guard must be thinking.
OT- rumors are that Southern Cal wants Jamie Dixon. Could that change Jamel Artis' mind. Heck maybe Brimah too.

And La salle should have a good year 2013-2014 with guards mostly juniors and seniors, so high school prospects could find the chances of playing attractive. Now if the administration just announces REAL plans for a new stadium---even in the 3+ year range to build...
And how did La Salle get Sam Mills? Could that, plus getting Galloway back from SC, help with occasional deep South recruiting?

Maybe Garland and Galloway can have a big weekend, and showcase La Salle as a great place for guys who went BCS and are regretting it to transfer to.

OT- rumors are that Southern Cal wants Jamie Dixon. Could that change Jamel Artis' mind. Heck maybe Brimah too. Unfortunately, Brimah is firm in his commitment.. His handlers wanted him there.. Artis, this is the first I have heard of Dixon, would be a nice change of pace but he is really improving his stock.. I am not aware they even are still talking... Would not shock me that Giannini lands an acclaimed guard.. In the next several months in the transfer market, after this run.. It will at least get a transferring player to take the call.. Which was more than before.. Get G on the phone and that is good
