This is just plain stupid. UConn's football team sucks eggs big time. They are going to get smoked in the Big 12.

UCONN should stay where they are. There could be a nice non power 5 football only conference in the East. Maine, RI, UConn, Umass, Temple, Villanova, Delaware, Richmond, Towson State and maybe Monmouth. This would be kind of a regrouping of the old Yankee Conference. The teams are closer to big population centers than the Mid-American.
It makes no sense for the Blue Hens to be in Conference USA.

Last year under Jim Mora Jr. they were 3-9 and were the 121st best team (out of 133) for points scored at the FBS level (their defense was the 100th best in points allowed). And this was on a SOS that was the 85th best. Yeah, they suck eggs.

Not really sure who you are referencing here, but to me, Temple comes to mind. Trying to make it big in FB, changes conferences, and appears to have totally failed in its quest to have an above average Football program, and brought down its basketball program as well.

Pac-12 is picking up Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State in 2026-27

I'd imagine the Big East loses it's luster in 5 years. They are the only non-P5 conference to win the NCAA tourney since UNLV did it in 1990. Big East did it 9 times - UConn (5), Villanova (2), Syracuse (1), and Louisville (1). Once UConn departs, only Villanova remains as a Big East conference member who has won the whole thing, and let's face it...they aren't getting there under Neptune.
The call of football NIL money will lure schools away, and the Big East will fade as a basketball power conference.

They've been firmly top 5 forever. Do you see them getting outside that?

I think so. Football NIL and TV rules the roost, and some of these teams in the Big East aren't going to have the resources to compete. So as the top teams leave...like a UConn (which is probably the only reason the Big East had a NET Conference Ranking of 5 this year)...their cache will drop.
I think it will be 5 years out though that we really see it fall apart.

I could see big 12 taking a pass on UConn due to football team. Decent but not high odds on this imo
Big east needs to add Zags and St Mary. It’s every man for himself time. Better to nab them now before pac 12 does. The 6 team pac 12 makeup makes little sense to me. Maybe they are waiting for Stanford and cal to reach out when Acc implodes

Gonzaga and St Mary’s don’t have football so they won’t be the next adds. Probably UNLV and one other. They could add them after that but they won’t be the next two adds Football should be a separate entity. There’s no reason for Rutgers to send their cross country team to Oregon for a conference meet on a Tuesday flying commercial. Those kids are in school for school. Basketball flies charter and most of those kids are there for basketball. Same with football plus football plays on the weekend anyway

College sports has become a home for the geographically deranged. Next, let's put the University of Hawaii and the University of Alaska in the America East.

Let hoops and football chase the money in the big, power conferences and keep the rest of the sports in their typical/regional leagues. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Even La Salle going to SLU for soccer and the like is dumb to me. (I know soccer is a pretty good rivalry, but still)

To clarify, they wait two years for ACC (should happen within a year or so) to fold and try to lure Stanford and Cal as priority one... If that doesn't work they can nab Tulane, UNLV, Air Force, UTSA or the best available football team. They are not adding other MWC teams at this time (which they could do now) to minimize exit and poaching fees per each other departing MWC team. Still think it makes sense to grab Zags and StM for 10 team hoops. Would be a better hoops league with those WCC teams plus SDSU, Boise, Col State plus the final two new football schools.

Hopefully we eventually get to a point where football can have its own conferences and basketball can. Or at the very least football and basketball and then every other sport. It's also going to be interesting to see the next B1G contract, do the TV executives say hey let's get rid of Rutgers and bring in someone that draws more eyeballs.
