I'm rarely right about much of anything, however..... ....I was thinking that Fran might be here for TWO more seasons. Next year, as a part of the opening of the new arena - who wouldn't want to be a part of that and who deserves it more? Then, he has a new, finished facility to show recruits and see how well that augments the recruiting effort, if at all. Coach that season, then walk away thinking, "Well, I've done all I can do and given all I have to give, it's time to retire." My selfish, personal preference is that he coach La Salle for the next 5-10 years. My realistic preference is that Fran does whatever Fran wants to do and for him to look out for himself first and foremost. But we're headed toward midnight now, I hope to see Marquette win this one, and I have to get up for work at 4:30 A.M. - Boy, am I ever going to pay for this tomorrow!

Unfortunately, whether Fran retires this year, or 3 years from now, there's going to be speculation every March. Part of the territory. Bruiser Flint wanted the job as well. Bruiser was in the final group. Thank god that didn't come to pass, the slide would have continued with him at the helm.

I think Bruiser is a good head coach. He won at two tough jobs. Drexel is a tough job.

Did anyone catch this post game quote from Bonnies coach? “Fran is a really good friend,” St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt said after the game. “He took that job when no one else wanted it. He stepped up and came out of retirement. He’s a great coach and a better man. He’s done a wonderful job with those guys. He knows what he’s doing … even though he’s old.” "When no one else wanted it". Did they really have that hard of a time attracting potential head coaches? I saw this too, I thought he was trying to be magnanimous, gracious (likely also relieved after a perhaps lucky win). I don't think he is very good at it. HE was clumsy to be kind. It was off the cuff, but maybe revealing of how he views La Salle and us old people, LOL.

Give Dunph another year, and get a plan in place. Michigan won like 9 games this year. Maybe get Phil on our staff a year early... it would cost us extra money, but would be the best staff in the A10. I'm sure that Phil wants another bite at the apple. I would be on board with that. Me too. We always needed a transition plan and none was offered/explained. While Phil ain't a spring chicken, he's younger than Dunph and he can coach. It would be fun to see them together or for Fran to do a handoff immediately if needed. I am fine with that either way.

Have Dunphy next year and get Lappas, Phil, Bruiser, G, and Jay all on the bench together as Round Robin assistants. It will be the Mount Rushmore of the Big 5 at 20th and Olney.

There might be a few on this board that would like to see this guy take the reins when Fran retires.
Todd Simon, Bowling Green: Simon took over a terrible Southern Utah program, and slowly breathed life into it. Southern Utah finished 333rd on KenPom in his first season. By Year 7, Southern Utah finished 111th nationally with a sparkling 24-win campaign. Simon led Southern Utah to three straight 20-win seasons before taking the Bowling Green job in March. Simon-led teams play at breakneck speed and shoot a billion 3-pointers.

To get support on this board Todd needs to pick up the 3 pace, bigtime…

There are guys that fit La Salle better

Dunph has to mentor the coach who takes over for him. If it isn’t Donnie then we need to bring the guy in here who can take over the reigns.

The longer we get silence the more I am worried Dunphy is retiring. I think he will be there next year. I should say "if Dunohy retires now, I will change my name and move to Marcus Hook". I won't because the last time I did that we lost to Sacred Heart and I started receiving real estate listings for 19061. Maybe next year, Dunoh retires. Hell. He may never really retire. Didn't O'Hanlon go back to HS Bball this year at O'Hara? On the mentoring topic, Dunph doesn't need to mentor anybody. He knows enough leaders and coaches in this business that he could come up with 5 good successors off the top of his head. Gola didn't have to mentor Westhead. He knew he had what it took. (Coach Westhead didn't get flaky until later in his career.)

I would think that if Dunphy was not returning, he would give that decision sooner rather than later to not put the school at a disadvantage.

The longer it goes the more likely he retires.
I am not talking May. If nothing is said it his week, I think something is going on in the background for Dunphy to step aside.
He will need to rebuild this roster. We have 3 Portal entrants and more on the way most likely.
