Was just checking an AAC Message Board to see if there was any news about the football schedule coming out (Army joins this year for football and I have season tickets) and saw this post. Figured I'd share. csnbbs.com/thread-987279.html

If I was Dayton I wouldn't join the AAC. If I was St. Louis I would. If I was Loyola, I would.

America East, where UMass-Lowell plays, is a more highly rated basketball conference than the MAC according to KenPom. It's humorous that UMass-Lowell will be playing in a better conference than UMass.

That's how much better the football money must be than the basketball money.

That's how much better the football money must be than the basketball money. football money is always better than basketball money. Army football moving to the AAC for football only and Rutgers departed from the Big East to join the Big 10 for football money. In my opinion, UMass should stay independent in football and the A10 in basketball. UMass will lose than gain money in the MAC.

How long can the MAC survive in this NIL, conference realignment, current bastardized version of college football?

I don't think they're trying to beat Alabama though. College football is more like F1 than College basketball. Just want to move up a spot or two.

How long can the MAC survive in this NIL, conference realignment, current bastardized version of college football? Bingo it doesn’t… Which is amazing part of all this.. Suprised the UMASS Board isn’t factoring that.. UMASS will lose more money with this move.. which is the funny part.. and be in a less prestigious conference..

Hot take: George Mason has passed UMass as a program, and even 13th seed La Salle has a winning record against Frank Martin, so UMass had to get out of the A10.

Good. Maybe this is the beginning of the end of the Atlantic 10. Why is this good?

Answered this above. I think that the conference has become a bad conference for 6-7 of the schools in it, La Salle included and I think that the resources necessary to compete (in MBB and WBB) and for sports to travel to the far away locations have strangled the school for the last 10+ years. You want to know why people don't go to La Salle basketball games? Because the team is irrelevant in their own conference and has been for the 14 of the last 20 years.

I’ve brought up the MAAC before and the response has been met with “are you an idiot?” And the counter to it is: There would be no change in fan interest, we’d still play schools out of conference, and we’d have like five more tournament appearances.

The MAAC is too much of a step down for La Salle. I don’t like the A10 for La Salle. There isn’t another conference that is perfect. The MAAC is the worst option.

Small A-10 schools and the top half of the MAAC is the ticket. Won’t happen but we can dream.

I interviewed Curry Hicks Sage who is an expert on UMASS hoops. Here is his take.

I’d be completely happy with the last few years if I was a St. Peter’s fan

I wonder if Wichita St would want to move to A-10 with the American collapsing in basketball, only getting worse next year too.
