Also, illustrates once again, and mentions Georgetown and DePaul,(you can throw in Nova though not specifically mentioned) by name of the struggles that I see the "traditional" Catholic colleges who were once basketball powerhouses are going to have going forward in trying to weigh/balance their desire to be relevant in Athletics, while maintaining some semblance of Catholicism. The greed level of the haves are going to completely swallow college sports.

He could've stayed at Iona and ruled the MAAC. Rick chose to make the jump again, play the portal game, it is what it is...
I will say this, his comments aren't wrong. We have the same conversations on this board about guys not guarding or getting to the foul line. Everyone thinks they are getting better adding transfers and older players, more often than not, it doesn't work out that way. I can count on 2 hands the amount of impact transfers that we've gotten over the past 15 years.

You have to be smart and strategic. Teams have added impact transfers with positive results, namely Richmond ( who lost one of the top few A10 players), VCU (lost whole team), Loyola Chicago, Bonnies to a degree in A10; Seton Hall in BE; Charlotte, Memphis in AAC; Bryant which certainly could make dance this year and a number of mid to large programs that have gotten into a position to make tourney this year (versus past years).

Earl Pettis as a great get for the NIT year. BJ Johnson and Jordan Price were also great.

By my count, we've had like 22 incoming transfers since G arrived at La Salle. I could be off by 1 or 2, and it doesn't include the kid from Nebraska that got caught with a girl in a car after dark, or Savon Goodman.
Pettis Galloway Garland Price (black hole with the ball, but he could play) Johnson
Maybe Pookie and Nickelberry? That's 7 if you want to include those 2, but I'm talking impact players. All conference players, guys that take over games, lead teams to winning seasons, etc. I'm sure you could add 2 more if you want to expand the definition of impact players.
It's not filling up 2 hands of impact players. I think we're on the same page, 20th. We are just saying it differently.
My point in all of this, is that the portal isn't fool proof. We've hit on a third of our portal players in the last 2 decades.

If you want to laugh or cry, we've had 35 guys transfer out in the same time period. If you include Cunningham, Taylor, and TWill, none of whom played for another college after La Salle (Cunningham graduated from here) it goes to 38. If you want to include Burton from Chester, who did play college ball after the arrest, it goes to 39.

If you want to include Burton from Chester, who did play college ball after the arrest, it goes to 39. La Salle is still known as a transfer net-positive school because of the Sweet16 Run. You would have to change the rules to include an exodus of "impact" players. The only players we lost who made more of an impact where they were going and went up a level are rather few. Murray, Clark and Croswell? Those are the only three that come to mind. Then the rest of the potentially impactful transfers out who played significant minutes after leaving are: Carter, Hikim, Kenney, Moutrie, Ray, and the brothers Drame. These players either went down a level or moved laterally, but continued their careers. After that, I'm missing how you get to 39 names. You're really counting a role player like Henry, a transfer IN that ended up going out after one season and playing nowhere else? You're counting two high school kids who unenrolled for reasons that were outside our control (legal trouble)? You're counting the usual players who leave automatically because we insisted we find a new coach before the end of their terms? We had three coaches on the payroll one year, correct? That is going to lead to more transfers every time.

I took every player that came in from another college (Yevgen didn't count even though he started as a sophomore eligibility wise) and every player that left for another school, plus Demetrius Henry since he had eligibility left.
Vernon Goodridge exhausted all of his eligibility. TWill was kicked out for fighting and didn't play elsewhere. Cunningham didn't play elsewhere and graduated from La Salle. Marshall Taylor didn't play elsewhere as I believe he took a job to support his young children.
Other than those athletes, everyone was counted good and bad, from Karl Harris to Sheriff Kenney, and everyone that transferred in was counted, from Garvin Hunt to BJ Johnson.
22 players in, 35 out... and I could be off by a player or 2.

Of those 35 out, the two that made the best of their decisions were Sheriff Kenney, and Ayinde Hakim. Stepping down a notch isn't such a bad thing if you want some minutes on the court and make a difference. They found good fits. Sheriff twice landed in good spots.

Add Jameson Keefe to the transfer out group. i left him off because he never transferred anywhere to play basketball. To complete the full cycle of walking down memory lane, give me all of the 4 year players that graduated since G arrived. You don't have to include walk-ons, and we consider all seniors as grads, regardless if they had a Jameer Nelson type situation where they didn't graduate right away.

In the spirit of the moment, Christian Ray now has a 1000 points and 1000 rebounds in his college career. Hens are like 9-6 in CAA.
Brandon Stone hasn’t been in a Delaware State boxscore since 12/30.
