Saw the end of VCU-UMass game. UMass runs VCU out of the building. The announcers start the canonization process for Coach Frank Martin. As Yakov Smirnoff used to say “what a country!” i watched parts of the game. st joe's (pa) shill tmac along with ex-nova player chris walker were on the call. during the second half, they also found a way to mix some billy lange praise into the conversation. unbelievable.

how any member of the la salle bot back then approved this renovation is beyond me. this decision set the program back decades. thanks brother joe burke. my kids were very young around this time so i wasn't paying as much attention as i should have been, but i never saw this issue of la salle magazine when it came out. if i had seen those plans, i would have been complaining to anyone who would listen. not sure if this was published prior to the start of construction but it appears that it did. my guess is some of the big money people tried to nix this but were unable to talk some common sense into the decision makers.

That's what's enraging. It's not a situation where a good arena got outdated because it didn't have luxury boxes or enough media capabilities. (The example I always like to use is Ebbets Field- it only had 500 parking spots because it was built in 1913, when there were barely any cars and people lived walking or trolley distance from the stadium- by 1957 that had all changed). It was a horrendously bizarre and unworkable "arena" from the day the doors opened. Anyone who knew what they were doing should have seen that from the start, and there's no way they couldn't have come up with something better for the money they spent, even if it still wasn't great- it should have been better.

$5.5 million in 1996 dollars is worth about $11 million today. You get what you pay for. What is the "actual" current budget of the renovation underway now? Like $20 million?

Louth, was going to do a version of Gola with 6,000 seats, and seating all around the arena. It was going to be done at cost, cheaper than Gola. We looked a gift horse in the mouth. Louth is on here frequently, message him about it.

Like $20 million? not sure how true this is, but i heard with overruns the original renovation ended up costing in the $10m range. how awful is that.

Final game of the season at Loyola Chicago will be a tough one. They are firing on all cylinders right now. Got a few good guys out of the transfer portal and they are playing solidly as a team riding a 7 game win streak.

I'd rather get 10 than 9. Why? Who is the bogey man at 1 you want to avoid? Hard to imagine your odds of advancing improve by playing an additional round.

Fair enough, that is a reasonable response if getting a winning record is the priority. Personally I'd just love to get to the semis any way we can.

Will be interesting to see how they handle that last game.

Will be interesting to see how they handle that last game. They come out ready to play. A 1-seed is always more favorable, and although there's no automatic NIT qualifier this year for finishing first in the conference, I have to think they have NIT as a secondary goal if they don't win the A10 tournament. A loss to us would hurt those chances. They currently have a NET of 92 with a chance to improve that with strong showings at the Bonnies tonight (NET 72 - could be a Quad 1 win), and against Dayton this weekend (NET 20 -another Quad 1 opportunity). They can't afford to stumble against Davidson or us.

Ugly game so far with Mason at Fordham. 8-7 Mason with 7:51 remaining in the 1st half.

Cover the fucking 2.

Such horseshit. A bad goaltend call, that even the Fordham broadcast team thought was bad, set the wheels in motion for this.

Playing around with the link tonight, I see one path for us to avoid the PIG. - beat both GW and Loyola - Rhode Island has to lose to SLU and Fordham, and beat Mason - Fordham has to lose to St. Joe's and UMass - Richmond has to beat Mason and at least either VCU or St. Joe's - Davidson has to lose 2 of their last 3 Highly improbable all that happens, but still possible

Latest bracket projections have Villanova out and Richmond in. There's a certain irony around Tyler Burton transferring to Nova to get into the Dance and settling for watching Richmond play in the tourney.

Easy ... if Villanova can just be above .500 in the big east I have no doubt the committee will find a way to get them in.

Loyola-Dayton was a pretty poorly played game, but Loyola does have a talented and physical team. I'd say we're in trouble next Saturday (March 9) in Chicago.

All the right things happened this last weekend and we still, shockingly, have a chance to finish out of the PIG in 9th.
Just need the following: - Win at Loyola-Chicago - Rhode Island to beat Mason and Lose to Fordham - Fordham to lose to UMass - Richmond to beat Mason - Davidson to lose either to Loyola or St. Joe's
