I always enjoy the Palestra but the Penn Administration seems to be a different matter. The Big Five banners were taken down to make room for the video board. That's fine but can't they find another spot for them?
I was also told by many people recently that Penn is not the easiest group to work with when either SJU or La Salle use the Palestra. Case in point, last Saturday La Salle support people were not allowed to enter the Palestra to get ready for the game (which was a sellout and had lots of media attending)until 90 minutes prior to tip off. Heck, they open the doors to the public an hour before tip off.
Temple game from what I'm told was another PR disaster. I understand that their computer/internet were horrible. Stats to press row were 7 minutes behind game action. Gametracker , I am told, was indicating the game had not started even though it was over. The Scoreboard over center court gave score, time, fouls, timeouts and possession. The secondary scoreboards had no info. I would have been nice if they had halftime and updated stats. It would have been nice if they had player points and fouls too.
Gola and La Salle take a lot of hits. At least, we treat people better and give the fans info on the scoreboards and video screens. Maybe we do some things better.

Temple wasn't prepared for the large crowd, although far from the advertised sellout, on Thursday. It took about twenty minutes by car to travel from Broad & Norris to the Liacourus parking garage. Not enough ticket cashiers inside to accomodate the volume of cars. Then the "will call window" had maybe 100 people waithing in line eight or nine minutes after the game STARTED. They finally opened several ticket booths and the line went down more quickly.

I stood in that Will Call line and when I finally got to the window they told me that La Salle had a table somewhere. No signs. Nothing.
Nice to see Daily News sportswriter Bob Cooney take in the game along with his son who was proudly wearing a Blue La Salle sweatshirt.

Isn't Bob Cooney a neighbor of "G"?

Bob Cooney's child is autistic and La Salle has been very supportive working with Cooney's to raise awareness. Not sure what Cooney has done in that area but La Salle gas worked very close with him and Cooney has been very appreciative.

Did Cooney attend La Salle?

Not to mention the disastrous effect that playing Penn, Temple, and SJU all had on our RPI this year... been hearing about La Salle's for years now what about theirs?

Or that La Salle has a miniscule fan base. The turnout for the Explorers at both venues was great. Someone on here mentioned it was a sell out at Liacouras, only their 14th since the building was opened in 1997. Any confirmation? For such a “prolific program” you’d think that place would fill up easier. Temple sell out, La Salle made.
As for the Big 5 banners at the Palestra, I went to SJU game last year and they were missing, could not find them.

True although any time they can sniff a sellout which is once a year they go to the WFC in south phila.
The problem with that arena is parking as well as ticket prices. They should let students occupy the upper level but when their allotment of season tickets is gone the kids pay full price I think.

Liacouris Center sucks. The worst seat in Gola is better than most of the seats at Liacouris.
That place sucks..

I may be misinterpreting your comment but I have heard that Mike Krzyzewski will no longer play at Liacouris because he wants his teams to get used to the big arenas that they will be playing in during the NCAA tournament. I guess there is some logic in that one.

Love to see what Duquense has-a small arena like bldg.Until then, I wouldnt mind playing 4-5 big games/year at Palestra. The atmosphere for PSU and St Joe was great. I am not familiar with the financial problems=I am just talking BB.

Personally, I don't like the Liacouras Center at all, and not just because La Salle has only been able to win there once. Before the Temple trolls have a coronary, it's obvious that it's a hundred times nicer than Gola and is considered by many to be a first class arena. But it's just too cookie-cutter for me. I like unique and/or more intimate arenas. Watching a game from even the lower rows in the upper level at Liacouras stinks. You're just too far away from the court. It reminds me somewhat of the Spectrum, which to me was an awful place to watch a basketball game (but actually pretty good for hockey and concerts).
As far as larger arenas go, give me the Palestra any day. It doesn't have padded seats but it has atmosphere and there's nothing like it when the place is even 3/4 full. Give me Hinkle Fieldhouse which I hope to visit next year. Give me more intimate places like the new Kennel at Gonzaga, TD Bank Arena at the College of Charleston, Sojka Pavilion at Bucknell, the Leavey Center at Santa Clara, the Curb Event Center at Belmont, the Stroh Center at Bowling Green, the TD Bank Center at Quinnipiac, the Ryan Center at Rhode Island, or the RAC at Monmouth. There isn't one bad seat in all of those arenas, they are all first class, and they all have designs that are somewhat unique.

There's no "cookie-cutter" design in basketball arenas! Will we see a "new arena" at La Salle make ground breaking within 10 years? I don't see it unless we can find an alumni donor who has a fortune.

I like Liacouras as a facility (entrance way, concourse, bathrooms and concessions)but not as a place to watch basketball. It reminds me of the late Convention Hall. Once again, it is a splendid building.

Liacouras is a good home court with 7500 fans; the Palestra is a great place with 4000 fans. Too, a newer bldg just cannot have feel of Palestra

I was at the temple game. They said it was a sellout but there was a lot of empty seats in the upper level. I thought the La Salle student section was pretty strong though. They were pretty loud and positive for being down so much most of the game.
