I'm sorry to hear this!
He was President of La Salle when I was there. He always seemed to be a personable guy. I know he was thrilled when his alma mater, Catholic University called upon him to serve as their President. It was tough seeing him go, but he certainly deserved to end his career however he wanted. I have no doubt that was a perfect ending for him.
It sounds as if his passing was a blessing, given reports regarding the condition he was in. I'm sure he's in a much better place now.

A sad day. A great man. Things might have been different if he had stayed.Very accessible and very, very bright and forward thinking. Remember riding on train with him and alumni to MSG in 1987 for NIT.May his good deeds and fine example inspire others in their service to others and to LaSalle.

A truly great inspiratinal leader and creative educator. Wonderful wit, quick smile and keen intellect. Had the honor of working with him on an advisory board although never as a student. God bless Brother Pat.

Really weird. I actually read something on Bro. Pat prior to going on this website and getting word of his passing. A truly unique person. Always had a story and they were not the Cliff Notes version either. Had the Gift of Gab.
RIP Bro. Pat. Job well done.

I'm curious why luhoopsfan felt the need to start this thread on the main basketball page 3 hours after SICGUY posted it on the "other discussion" page(where it probably belongs).
Why even have an "other page" if you are going to post everything on the main basketball page (that's directed at you, jellybean, and the post on women's soccer, too.)

Thanks for your contribution. It wasn't necessarily a post about WSOC but rather a post that was positive towards everything La Salle. In case you are unaware we take a beating on most A10 basketball boards about our campus, athletic programs and university. Sorry if I bothered you.

Brother "Fat Pat" was the Phi Kappa Theta moderator as well, and often came to our house at Locust and Bloyd. He was engaging and a tireless LaSalle promoter. Would that he continued as President, the school and basketball program would be in better shape. The last time I saw him he remembered to give me the fraternity handshake. I will miss him.

Did not know he was Phi Kap. I thought Brother Joe Burke was the only one. What years was that?

.... our house at Locust and Bloyd. Now that is decidedly off campus!

Anything related to the school is fine here. If it's about like the Phillies, it needs to go in the other board.

Catholic University Mourns the Passing of its 13th President publicaffairs.cua.edu/releases/2013/ellis.cfm“As we mourn the passing of our alumnus, Brother Patrick Ellis, we will remember with gratitude his service to The Catholic University of America as its President and his lifelong dedication to Catholic education,” said Catholic University President John Garvey. “His memory will live on at the University through the Brother Patrick Ellis Chair in Education, which the University’s Board of Trustees established in his honor to enhance the department’s programs in leadership development for Catholic education.” John Convey, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Professor of Education, who was appointed by Brother Ellis to serve as the University’s provost, recalled him as “a Christian educator who cared deeply about the formation of the whole person, academically and spiritually.” A man of accomplishment, dignity and humor.

I remember the "fireside chat with Brother Pat" series. He made himself available to all the students. God bless and thank you for your service to our great Lasallian community.

I will no longer post anything that is not 100% related to the men's basketball program, its players or coaches

In the winter of 67-68 there was this impressive snow storm that lead to a huge snowball fight one night at 20th and Olney. There were probably over 100 guys involved. Philly's finest came to break it up and Brother Pat herded us all through those dorm complex gates. Just as the last guy gets in the gates some stunod threw a snow ball at one of Rizzo's boys. A police officer came charging up those steps and Bros Pat locks the gates, refuses to let the cop in...gives that big smile and says "Goodnight, Gentlemen."
I understand the anger of the police. The Philly cops could be pretty tough back in the day. Bros Pat may have saved a couple of students from getting manhandled that night.
