Rosemont is on the Horizon, so I figured I'd put up the Game Thread. I"ll be sitting at work following along. As has been pointed out prior, Rosemont is a D3 school, and not a particularly good one (presently sitting at 2-8). Realistically, this should be like a glorified scrimmage and not be particularly competitive at any point but I guess we'll see. It's the only game in like a 2 week stretch though, so I'll be watching/listening.

Got sidetracked at work right as the game was starting but just came back to hear Kale throw to 12 minute Media TO saying "Explorers are up 26-7"

We should win this game by 50 points and everyone on the bench should get a run today.

Halftime. Up 56-21. Did what they should have done- was never competitive. Get the deep bench and the walk-ons some run in the 2nd Half.

Milos bucking for more time. they’re playing a middle-of-the-pack PCL team. They’re playing Lansdale Catholic.

Yeah I don’t think this is a game you want to draw any kind of conclusions from about anything. It’s the equivalent of the beginning of the season scrimmage we play sometimes, except it’s on December 21st.

We don’t need our starters getting injured in this exhibition game.

Yeah it pretty much is, but it's not like we had to choose between playing this game and playing Kansas and chose this. I think its filling a hole on the schedule. But I agree, this isn't really adding much of value to anyone involved except the Walk-Ons who get to play.

What a waste. Hope Rosemont gets sacrificial pay. 😁 All the schools are doing this.

Would someone please explain to me what the benefit of this was? I trust with Fran being the 🐐 that he is, there is a good purpose. I can only see a false sense of where we are as a team, potential injury, and obviously this didn’t happen but the potential for a loss to a D3 program.
In any event happy to see we won solidly with no injuries. Howard will be a test!

No benefit at all. No benefit to us, no benefit to Rosemont. No benefit to the bench players. There's 350 other D1 schools. We couldn't get one on December 21?

I guess at the lowest level, teams that are always 'bought' can't play enough home games without dipping down to D2/D3. A-10 schools shouldn't be in that category.

The cost to play a D3, especially a local one, is cheaper than paying a “guarantee” game to an NEC or MEAC school. Howard is MEAC but that’s a home and home. I think conferences like the A-10 and higher try to discourage home and homes with lower level conferences as much as possible. Could always do 2 for 1’s. But this time of year it is tricky scheduling

I can only see a false sense of where we are as a team do you really think the coaching staff and team think the rosemont game was anything other than a tune-up between real games? i am positive dunph drilled that into all of their heads. like hoopsguest posted, this was a cheap buy game. it saved the school and la salle men's basketball budget some money that could be better used for something else, plus they didn't have to do a return game with a team from a lower conference. take a look at the daily cbb schedules from mid-late december. lots of mid to high major programs have games against d2, d3 and naia schools. this is not unique to la salle. people need to get over it.

I'm with diehard on this. A low budget buy game which helps a local D3 team and gets us a home game just before the break is okay with me. No one expects it to help our NET but we didn't have to buy a game for big dollars or travel just before a brief Christmas break. Additionally it got kids who work hard in practice the opportunity to get on the floor in game conditions and have a moment. I couldn't help but notice how excited the regulars were when the reserves scored. It was a win win. A sneaky tough Howard team is next and then on to the A 10 schedule. Happy Holidays to Explorer fans everywhere.

I'd rather the team play a real opponent before a 9 day break that helps the team get ready for A10 play. Buy game, home and home, a game in Boardwalk Hall, or go to Rupp Arena, I don't care. The game was a zero. Neither team got better and nobody benefitted from it. Waste of time. It was like that Rowan game 8 years ago.
