There was a a fair amount of Fran bashing in the Temple thread that was off base in my view. I have nothing but the highest respect for him, his integrity and coaching ability. However, I am concerned that there is a talent void based on what has been assembled that could lead us to a ~ 14 spot finish in the A10 this year, and that some strategic adjustments need to happen going forward if we are going to improve over last year, which was not a great baseline to operate from. To be clear I think it's a talent thing, not a coaching thing.
1) As far as what we have attracted so far, the past International talent infusion is not at an A10 level and the development curve is not promising IMO.
Strategic change suggestion - focus on higher quality International talent and de-emphasize International roster quantity. Off-season roster cuts are likely needed from this group.
2) We have to embrace the NIL more aggressively and spend, even if it means we only have rotating groups of two year players. The world has changed and we need to adapt.
3) Why not pursue a second semester transfer with some NIL $ to elevate our talent and close the shortfall now. Players routinely leave at Christmas. Be proactive and opportunistic. Perfect recent example at the guard spot is Lynn Greer from UD to SJU. In our case now, we need a stretch 4 or athletic long forward to help us out. See #5 below for example. Let's get it done!
4)Fans, we need to kick in at least $100K annually on an operating spend basis to have competitive talent. Let the Coach do the rest.
5) Overall we need to SPEND NIL money more wisely. Example - from last spring on, we clearly needed a 4 that could stretch the floor, rebound and add athleticism this year; a 5 immediate backup contributor would have been nice. Both were available in the portal. Fran chose "not ready for A10 prime time" International players when we could have moved on and closed a guy like Steve Settle who was in the Portal for an extended period before Temple grabbed him. Close-to market DMV guy who we saw last year at Howard with good skills, a fair NIL price tag and good pedigree (De Matha guy). Why didn't we grab him early? There were many other examples (including serviceable 5 ppg 6 rpg 5 Rokas backups available in the portal) but Settle was a clear help with 2-years of eligibility.
I'll stop there without piling on, but the talent focus and timeline and NIL spend needs to shift IMO. I'm happy to invite your thoughts/commentary, whether supportive or different

23, I expect a few of the international players to be gone after this year. Guys not getting any PT in their second year here have to be thinking about finding playing time elsewhere. I think Deuce Jones was an excellent get for us not only because he's skilled but it helped us break back in to the regional recruiting market. Next year's recruiting will also depend on Brickus and Gill. If they return we can focus on getting an athletic 3 or 4 player from the portal who can step right in. If they don't we will need another guard who can contribute immediately and still need a wing. Jury probably still out on Tunde and Mercadino who have the rest of the season to win a spot going forward but hopefully Tunde can become that 3 and Mercadino can help at multiple positions. The 5 spot as almost always is a problem for us. Not sure Rokas is going to develop as we hoped, not sure if our early signing big will be the answer but fingers crossed on that. We certainly hope to make a big splash next season when we open Glaser and I'm sure the staff knows better than us the strengths and weaknesses of the team. As to NIL, do we have a collective and if so how do we donate to it?

Apparently 85-90% gets to athletes, would love for that to be closer to 100% as I have seen other schools do but maybe that is coming. My assumption is we need more alums offering pro bono services to help out in the NIL space to get closer to 100%. Some things I have seen work well for NIL is to provide an NIL shop where players can sell merch in collaboration with the school, host live video Q&A calls, and meet and greets/clinics. The NCAA will likely have to start sharing the TV money with athletes in the next 2-3 years and we are really going to have a divide in the future of college athletics.

I'm pretty sure this collective is just a white-labeled product offered by advancenil.com/ but maybe I'm wrong.

Damn clipping off 10-15% for themselves is harsh .. I am in wrong line of business Market rate is 15-20%. If you (and your needed scaled staff) have a legal degree; a CPA cert; a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and evolving state by state NIL requirements; a demeanor that is appealing to 18-23 year old athletes, 50- 60 year old college administrators, and 30-75 year old coaches (note, you may have an issue here since your comments on coaches include broken record commentary on HoF Coach Dunph's coaching shortcomings); and you can leap tall industry barriers to entry like a silk-caped Explorerman, you should jump right in to that line of business.

It sounds like La Salle athletes will be able to use the La Salle logos/trademarks to sell their own stuff at games/elsewhere which is great. Only thing I wonder is how much is being taken off the top. I don't read this as any conflict/synergy with Explorersunited. It appears it is just so the player's merch doesn't have to be knock off.
If I am wrong, someone please fill us in.

Just tired of your ongoing yammering criticisms of Dunphy. These are your recent posts. Could care less about your posts "dating years ago." Fran is coaching his butt off. Enjoy it while you can and stop acting like you are a NY Times film critic who has to find countless problems with Fran's screen show. I'll take experience over some holy grail stat you sleep with to "foul with 5 seconds left." Temple was self destructing with no legs. Why give them a chance to settle down, stop the game and shoot fouls. These maxims you quote aren't absolute. They are game time situation-dependent. I'd go with Dunph any day.

I'm always fouling up 3 with under 30 seconds to play.

Don't think that is an automatic with 6.5 seconds left. And, not sure it went into the decision, but I would wonder if that ridiculous whistle happy officiating crew didn't enter into the calculus. I wouldn't have put it past one of those bozos to call a flagrant foul or something equally ludicrous.

i'm torn on what the best strategy is but since i started using the espn+ app a few years ago, i have watched a ridiculous number of college basketball games. and my guess is that in games where this came into play, coaches chose not to foul in at least 90% of them.
my guess is dunphy's concern against temple is that this year's team has allowed a number of offensive rebounds off of missed foul shots, including earlier in that game.

That was my point earlier, but I guess it also opens up the door to losing in regulation. Foul still leaves like 4-5 seconds left, they make two so its a 1 point game and depending on us at the line, they can tie or win. Thats obv not a high percentage, but combine that with the putback risk versus straight up defending against a team that shot 20% from 3 and I don't think this is some no-brainer.

(Alllllllso ... a team that shoots 35% from 3 doesn't have a 35% chance of forcing OT there because you have to factor in turnover, blocked shot or simply not getting a shot off. Its def not a simple "you can't score 3 shooting 2 so Dunphy fucked it" equation here.)
