I had this thought as well...like it was a Disney vacation and the game itself was an afterthought or a fun exhibition. The frontcourt weaknesses were exposed. Truth be told they were exposed against Southern Indiana but we escaped with a 1 point win. When we were in zone toward the end and the player from Duke just snuck behind us for an easy basket - it looked like bad CYO defending. Boxing out on rebounding was horrible, and we were burned on pick and rolls repeatedly. I wasn't expecting a win, but I was at least expecting a team whose mantra is defense to not give up 95 points, to not have defensive breakdowns, and to not give them wide open looks on the same plays multiple times. This is a really ridiculous take. You guys aren't happy unless there is something to piss and moan about. The Athletic Department gauged interest in a travel package for the game and when there was enough interest they chartered a big enough plane to accommodate fans and supporters of the basketball team. As one of the perks for buying the travel package, the fans and supporters were invited to morning shoot around at an historic gym. After the shoot around the team takes all of 30 seconds to take a photo with these folks on the floor. This has nothing to do with the team preparing for the game or taking the game seriously. It was literally a 30 second deviation from their normal routine and preparation. This is the stuff the school should be doing for fans and supporters. We want more people to want to come to games and support the program. You guys are the first to complain that the school doesn't do enough to promote the team and get folks interested. When they do do something like that you find a way to denigrate it. From what I hear there were about 200 or so La Salle fans at the game. The pre-game meet up was packed with La Salle people. This should be celebrated as the Athletic Department doing something positive to promote the program. But leave it to you guys to figure out a way to criticize it. Preach.

I'm fine with us going down there and fine with giving the fans an "experience", but I'm reminded of Dr. G once saying..something to the effect of ... anything that distracts us from our task at hand makes us lose focus and hurts the team. Might be worth remembering that moving forward.
Southern Indiana went down to Durham and gave Duke a game. We did not. Duke led wire to wire against us, and the way they were scoring on us in the second half was a defensive joke. But hey. People got to hang out on the historic court, so that's all that matters. Maybe in the next few years we can visit Kentucky and Kansas as well and get blown out there so we have more nice Instagram photos.

Yup. If they get their clocks cleaned in an embarrassing game and play awful defense while articles are written about people having career days against us.

Yup. If they get their clocks cleaned in an embarrassing game and play awful defense while articles are written about people having career days against us. Nah. You and I both know I wasn't talking about your normal, consistent whining, pissing and moaning. I even highlighted the part that I referenced. But hey, if it makes you feel better not to own your shit, go right ahead.

Our players have watched Villanova win as many national championship as Duke has over the past 15 years. Do you think a pilgrimage to their court and a pep talk from Jay Wright with an almost 30 point loss would be met with as much of an aura of reverence as this Duke trip was? I doubt it.

We did lose at Villanova by that same margin of 29 in 2015, and Nova won a national championship later that season. Is it apples and oranges? I'd be curious if the same people who are OK with a 29 point lose to Duke because it was against the mythical Duke were as OK with a 29-point loss to Nova in a national championship season for them.

I only celebrate wins... not "hey but we kept it close against a number 9 ranked team." The good that came from the game is that our guys learned from the experience... can we take what we learned and thump Temple on Wednesday and then Nova or Hawks on Saturday? That is what i want to see. Build a team of guys who believe in each other and pull upsets when no one on the opposition expects it.

FFS no one is "ok with a 29 point loss". You just make shit up. ahem.... Yeah it was fine. We were competitive in the first half and didn’t get down huge until late in the game. I was hoping the final would be closer to 20 than 30 but realistically I don’t think it makes that much difference. Good experience for the guys. Beat Coppin State Sunday and get ready for Temple. Mark me down as fine with how tonight went. I’ve seen La Salle get beat down like this by far lesser teams than Duke. GW last February springs to mind. I want to see what they do against Temple next Wednesday. That’s the real early barometer for me.

I was really hoping not to be further involved in this but since I'm being quoted again- yeah I'm fine with how that game went. If we were down 35-9 and non-competitive the whole game I'd be more disappointed than how it went, where it was 10 point game at halftime and didn't get above 20 until fairly late.
Call that "loser mentality" or whatever buzzwords you want. We've made the NCAA Tournament once in 30 years. The gap between us and Duke is about the gap between us and D2 schools. You can get mad that that's the case, but it is. When an FCS school goes and gets their asses kicked by Alabama, people recognize that for what it is.
As for the "happy to be there" stuff, I see pro athletes talk about being excited to play at Lambeau Field, Wrigley, Fenway, Madison Square Garden, etc. and take pictures all the time. I think us getting beaten by 30 by Duke has a lot more to do with our talent level and theirs, as opposed to taking pictures on the court 6 hours before the game.

I made the pilgrimage to Duke and don’t really care when they play at Nova.
Say what you want about Nova having won more championships recently. Duke is Duke. People talk about that program and that arena way differently than they do Nova and whatever the name of that “arena” is.
Is a 29 point loss ever acceptable? Not really BUT we are not anywhere close to Duke in terms of prestige or talent. The only thing we can say we have over Duke is we had the better coach and that’s mainly due to Fran being talked into the job when he really didn’t want it AND because Coach K retired and the current coach is only in his 2nd year.
So let’s be real with where we are vs where we’d like to be.

We've had, what, five seasons above .500 since Martha Stewart went to prison?
If only we had a "winners mentality" when we went to Duke....nevermind the state of our endowment; our "arena"; our board of trustees; our legacy of multiple faltering presidents, ADs, and coaches. If there's a loser's mentality, it goes up much higher and 30 years earlier than this team.
Trust me, guys: sometimes I, too, wish we were still living in 1990.....but my knees and eyes tell me we aren't.

We've played higher ranked teams closer than 30 since I've been an Explorer (21 years)...
The only thing I took from this game was that it's cool to play Duke at Cameron Indoor, waaayyy cooler than losing to some fucking MAAC school or Texas Southern on homecoming.
I'm proud of the way we played in the 1st half. Duke went through the motions and still boatraced us in the 2nd half. I have concerns about our front court and outside shooting. It's the difference between 18 wins and 15 wins.
