To counter some dissing activity in another thread, how about a little respect for Chaney before we beat the Owls tonight.
The three biggest things about Chaney I will remember -- (1) he outworked and outhustled every coach and expected and got the same from his players; (2) he developed character and mental toughness in his players; (3) his teams exceeded expectations.
I think I can tolerate a Calipari-induced outburst (or two) when you consider the body of work
24 NCAA tourney wins
A run of 17 NCAA appearances in 18 years (and 21 overall)
5 Elite 8 appearances
The only thing standing in the way of a Final 4 was Duke (twice); UNC (OT loss); Michigan State (Izzo); Michigan (Fab 5)
****
He helped us get into the A-10 when our prior administrators had failed.
The man is Philly personified.

I've always respected the hell out of John Chaney despite not particularly liking any of his teams but they were always a great representative of philly hoops.. To have such a great resume despite not coaching at a particularly greatly supported basketball programs speaks volumes to just how good he was. Temple is a national name in basketball and in general largely due to John Chaney. Guys like Chaney are rare in sports and he is definitely missed!

He was a thug! Remember when he choked Gerry Gimblestab at GW. Classless act. That is all.

I don't think it's necessary for the board to atone for the comments of one poster. Lets worry about beating Temple and making Temple fans wish Chaney was still around
