Agreed...especially that Dunph did that to his Alma Mater is crazy.
Goongate kind of got blown out of proportion in my mind. Coaches tell players to make hard fouls all the time. Chaney shoun't have talked about it in his press conference. Thats where I fault him. If Bryant didn't fracture his arm no one says a word. Didn't he play like 2 games later? Always seemed fishy to me. Totally something Frankenstien would do.
Go Explorers.

I have the utmost respect for Lasalle University !
But I am astonished by the disrespect shown to Coach Chaney. Chaney is best friends with Speedy, and he went to battle to get you guys out the disaster that's the MAAC. The only reason you are in the A10 is because of the uproar Chaney caused. Chaney a racist? That is laughable too. So when he, a black man, only SEEMS to recruit black player he's a racist, but when Jay Wright does it, it's cool? Laughable my friends.
As for Dunphy? JUDAS?!?!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! He played at Lasalle like 40+ years ago. Sure, Lasalle is his alma mater, but calling the guy Judas is extreme. Chaney retired in 2006, and Lasalle was looking before then. Dunphy did not need some coup to get in to Temple, he earned it on the court! Chaney gave his approval, and Dunph is just lucky that his former Lasalle roommate, Bill Bradshaw is our AD. Dunphy is a Philly guy through and through. He will never leave Philly, and has done a ton for Philadelphia basketball. SO PLEASE STOP, YOU SOUND LIKE MORONS!
How many people on here would turn down a job that could pay you 600k more than you were currently making? Dunphy did what was best for his family, something I think most of us would do.
Good luck, and may the best team win tonight!

You're just picking out two posts to play outraged. Most of us have defended Chaney in this thread and I will continue to. He was a great coach and a true Philly guy. You can fault him for being too hot headed, but he did so much more good. Dunphy, on the other hand, used an offer from his alma mater as leverage for a better paying position with more prestige. I don't blame him for not taking the La Salle job in 2004, this place was a mess. But he should have just turned it down from the start if he had any loyalty to this institution, given what he was playing for.
Also, I have total respect for Temple as an institution. Can't stand them as a basketball team.

I think Temple is a fine academic institution, I hate their sports teams. I always though Chaney would be a guy I would want my kid to play for because he was tough but fair. As he got older I think he may have pushed the limits a little too far sometimes but overall was a fine man.
Agree 100%, La Salle should kiss the ground Chaney walks on for his role in our move to the A10, if only he could help us get to the C7...

I mean this as a serious question to the Temple fans posting here. I don't want it to sound combative, because I don't mean it that way. Why do you care what we're saying about your team and your coaches? Part of being a sports fan is about the narrative - rival villains and the good guys on your side. If I met Dunphy, I'd love to talk basketball with him. But he played our administration in '04 and he fits the villain role really easily if you're looking from our perspective. Why does it matter that we don't like Dunphy? Why should we? Do you really want us all to be Temple fans too?

KJ Really? "Dumb College kids showing poor judgemnet"...its ok for our fans to be dumb college kids but when Temples dumb collge kids show poor judgement by spilling beer on you its not ok. Come on man. You are making us look bad. At least be consistent with your argument. Other than the frat boys spilling beer on us and taunting us the entire game, the other garbage I had to tolerate was from adults. And as far as I know, at least the dumb La Salle students with the moronic chants that went on for maybe five minutes weren't harassing the Temple fans sitting near them for the entire game. My argument is plenty consistent.

There are classless fans everywhere. At least La Salle removed the offenders.
At Temple, the AD and security force turn a blind eye to it and do nothing.

I HATE THIS THREAD. The Chaney ripping is uncalled for.
Way to put sour taste in everyone's mouth before the big game tonight.

One guy ripped Chaney. I don't like that he didn't come back it up, but since when is John Chaney a saint around here? Plenty of guys here are ruthless about our own players, coaches, administrators, etc.
But HOW DARE WE criticize a guy who used to coach another team? And again, it was one guy who called him a racist.

The thing that drives me nuts is that no fan base seeks to find out what people that obviously don't like them think of their team and then try to pick fights with people for not liking a program they have no rational reason for liking. We didn't go to Temple, why would we sit here and talk about how much we love them and hate La Salle.
Talk about insecurity.

I hate all of our opponent's on gameday. Isn't that why we play the game? I really hate Temple. I have friends who are alumni, and my girlfriend is an alum. This makes me hate them EVEN MORE. I crave bragging rights. I do not ever want to lose to anyone in this city. When I wear my blue and gold, I don't want some random telling how nova, joes, penn, or temple beat us or blah blah. Its completely rational to hate them. Why else would it be a rivalry?

La Salle fans and students, watch your behavior tonight !!! Keith Pompey will be watching. Over the last couple of seasons, this clown felt the need to rip the La Salle fanbase in articles and on his blog. He's never had one bad thing to say about Temple's fans who are as obnoxious as they come. The last three years I went to Liacouras, my son and I: 1) were verbally abused and had beer poured on us by a group of d-bag Temple frat boys. 2) was taunted throughout the game by a handful of Temple fans in our section 3) was physically threatened by a Temple fan last year who backed right down when we got in his face And in every instance, their useless security people sat up at the entrance to the section yapping on their cell phones or stuffing their faces and did nothing about it. I've gone to dozens of away games over the years and Temple is the ONLY place where I've had a problem. Needless to say, I'm either watching the game at home or will meet up with some friends at a bar to watch. I'm disappointed I won't be there, but I refuse to put another dime into that athletic program's pocket and I just don't need the hassle. Definitely the last time I attend a game at Liacouras. Forget the team's struggles there. Overpriced tickets, ungodly ticket fees, $14 to park in a garage that takes 30 minutes to get out of, surrounded by awful fans...no thanks.

Hey! Guess what! I almost got into a fight. I am the least likely person to get into a fight on earth.
We decided to leave the game a bit early since that parking garage is a zoo. Some Temple fan -- a grown-up, nonetheless -- did the sarcastic "bye, have fun in the NIT" bit while his buddies laughed. I called him something because he was. A brief staredown occurred but I SQUASHED IT to walk away and also that dude would have beat my ass. But he still had a really dumb haircut.
I have been to many, many road sporting events where the team I am rooting for has lost and NEVER had that happen to me.

“Loss to Duquesne was Temple made” good one...
Brutal, brutal loss last night to witness. I had flashbacks to the La Salle teams of the early 2000’s. We looked very small too. This game should have been played at Palestra.
I had no real problems with Temple fans; they were loud and into the game.
Our band MIA? Student section relegated to upper corner? Rigged halftime pushup contest? La Salle Cheerleaders standing behind Temple Cheerleaders the whole game? Temple Made.

Kudos to all the La Salle fans there last night. I saw lots of Explorer Entourage T-shirts on both students and alums.
I don't buy this notion that all those seats that were empty in the upper deck were all sold. Friend today joked that Bill Cosby probably paid for them. Temple only averaged 5000 per game prior to last night. From what I saw I now wonder if 5000 is legit number?
