I'm not saying a #35 RPI is the be all end all of a team's ability or quality, but how is it that Saint Louis and Creighton receive more votes than us in the latest polls considering both have lower RPI's and SOS and at least 1 "bad loss"? I mean, we got ZERO votes and the only thing that happened after getting a few votes was a 1-point home loss to a really good UMass team, a blow out of an OK Fordham team that gave a bunch of A10 foes (including Butler) trouble, a road win @ SBU where many teams lose and a solid if not dominating win over the A10 pre-season pick for champion. We also have beaten the current leader and 2nd place team in the league and the only thing missing is not having ahd the opportunity to play the other team at the top.
Just venting my frustration with the perception problem we have. Hopefully a win Thursday clears it up for some more people, but there's a chance we could beat 3 ranked teams in one season after having gone so many years without beating 1.
Good to be back.

So long as we make the tournament I won't mind. Even if we didn't lose to UMass, I don't think we would have yielded votes beyond that week. I think it was more of a nod to us for beating Butler and VCU.

It is a matter of peaking at the right time. We finish strong and we could be top 25 heading into Brooklyn. St Lou is ranked 26 in AP poll. If we had beat UMass, we'd have basically the same record ... so we'd be right there.
I'd like to see St Lou win tonight by a point. That could result in 3 A10 teams in top 25 next week. Add to that a strong finish by us and the top 4 teams finishing less strong (because the SOS for them is tougher) and we could be on top of Butler, VCU, St Lou and all in the Top 25.

I don't think there's a lack of respect for us, so much as a lack of respect for RPI. UConn is high-profile and ahead of us in RPI at 31, and also gets no votes in either poll. And Oklahoma is high-profile and way ahead of us at 17th in RPI, but has no votes in the AP poll and 2 votes in the Coaches poll. Coincidentally or not, none of the three programs is doing as well in Sagarin's and Pomeroy's ratings.

Rankings are purely cosmetic at this stage in the game. Only number I care about is seeding.

I'm not too concerned about rankings/votes yet either. You have too many teams in the bigger conferences just flip flopping positions whenever one beats on the other. If StL beats Butler, and win out, we will probably face STL as a top 25 team (them, not us). We beat STL on the road, we may break the Top 25 (if we win out as well).
Just a side bar..that Indiana/MSU game was one of the best CBB games I've seen. Atmosphere, crowd, future stars, finish, coaching, etc.

Kentucky was a Top 25 team last week before the Noel injury. They still weren't Top 25 good before then.
