The players were great- but lets not overlook Coach. Had team ready to play and are playing with confidence and G is showing it. HTG-thought we would get crushed by their BIGS. But our Bigs played well. I thought we might have to do somthing diff- zone, Box and 1 but Coach let guys play mano a mano and we were the better team. The turnovers were probably a byproduct of the pressure- especially early and Hawks made some mistakes too. I thought he outcoached Phil by a wide margin, by about the 30 feet that Phil keeps CJ from the basket..

I'll give Giannini this, you can see that the team has developed A LOT since the beginning of the year. They're in MUCH better shape than they were (you don't see them leaning on their knees in the second half) and the execution of the offense looks like it's second nature to them now.
Part of Giannini being a "better coach" is having better players. (Anyone can look like a genius if they have Wilt Chamberlain and Julius Erving on their roster.) But, he recruited them, so that's a major plus in his favor.
I was critical of him in previous years and he still wouldn't be my first choice if I were hiring for a school, but he's done a terrific job this year assembling this team and getting them to grow.

The TV camera highlighted G's shoes. I was like ok. I know they do a game barefoot and one with pink shoes. The commentator said G brings sneakers to the pre game and works them out in his suit and goes over the game plan. Whatever he is doing is working. He tried everything since he has been here from an all 6'6" team to 5 man substitutions. I could never figure out what he was trying to do. He seems to have a set offense and a defensive philosophy that is working. Lets face it we have a better chance of landing guards then centers so if he can master a heavy guard scheme we can be good more often then not. And yes he has been out coaching people! No more nice guy can't coach label.

I apologized to him last year, I can still be critical of him, but he has brought pride back to the program.

I love to say I told you so. Not because I am selfish, but because G deserves this.

I will be maning up and at the very least emailing G and apologizing then thanking him. Hopefully I will do it in person at the NCAAs . The good news is we are getting better and this schedule is tough and you can see we have hardened and have a whole new demeanor. Wow coach G is gonna go dancing! Can't wait!

Its alot easier to coach when your players buy into your system, and all the pieces are in place. It also helps when the players come to play and in the words of Galloway, "want to be great, we just don't want to be good" That kind of mentality goes a long way on the basketball court.

I think G figured out exactly the type of player he needs in order to be successful- it's a hybrid of the interchangeable parts theory he had with Rodney. Now it's interchangeable backcourt players with solid front court players. The biggest change is that these guys aren't all 5-star recruits in terms of pure talent but are 5-star in terms of intangibles, they listen and they are tough. In college hoops that usually goes further than talent. I mean its obviously even better of you can get both of those things but its extremely rare and those players wind up at Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc.
Prime example is to look right at our recent history. No one thought we would recover from losing Murray and we are WAY better now than at any point in his time here and we certainly have a better team than WVU

They are a legitimately well-coached basketball team. All of them, collectively, do the right thing. G said in the press conference that they're not perfect and will make mistakes -- a rushed shot, a missed switch, etc. But they make up for it by listening and looking to correct those mistakes.
The team's two best players LOVE to share the ball. They're both so great at reading what the defense is giving them. It's really contagious. And it's also clear the team really, really, really likes playing together.
It's been a slow climb to get to this point. But it's awesome.

Truth is I worry that Coach G will end up going to greener pastures after this season or next(which will also be a good team) unless he loves Philly area and wants to remain a Big 5 coach. Let's be honest it is very tough to recruit at La Salle and nobody has an eye for talent like G. Was watching another player yesterday from Iona who G was after (Laury)and he only had 18pts. and 15reb's. in an O.T. loss. Can you imagine under good circumstances what he may do if the situation presents itself. Let's hope his wife loves the area and he wants to remain in Philly because he is a great plus for the La salle community.

Ramon's approach to his game and the game, all facets has to be a coach's dream. And then there are his skills

I don't think we have to worry about G. Isn't his wife from the area? He also cut his teeth in Rowan. He said at some point his daughter goes to Nova and I think he has younger kids so they're in a local school system.
He'd also have to weigh the pros/cons. he's from Chicago and the Illinois job just got filled last year. I'd imagine that's his DREAM job and that's not happening for him. Maybe Northwestern? But that place is the worst job in the Big 10.
Another thing to consider -- if Xavier/Dayton/St.Louis/Butler/VCU split for the Catholic League, the A-10 just got a lot easier to win, even if just a handful of those teams jet. And since we're in an area where there's no shortage of local talent and G's proven himself as a good recruiter, I think we'll be a consistent top-of-the-conference team. Temple's leaving and will have to get Big East recruits now. UMass might leave, too.

I think he will stay. While some have been critical, it was never personal and he has always been well liked. He was immediately respected for restoring integrity to the program. Now, with diff. players, he is respected for his coachinjg ability. Now the admin. needs to step up. Need to b competitive financially and assure G that infrastructure will get better.Lastly, after all of his hard work recruiting may get easier and he hopefully will want to reap benefits of his labor.

Always have to worry about a Rutgers or Penn state like team raising him several pay grades at once. Lock him up Dr B!!

Hykos, Pat Chambers isn't leaving PSU anytime soon. He's like G up there, slowly building a solid program with not necessarily all the help he could hope for.

Congratulations to "G" for a terrific game yesterday and a fine season which has real NCAA promise right now. I would like the Administration to reward him with both a contract extension and a commitment for NEW facilities. I hope that would be enough to ensure his loyalty for at least a few years. If the team receices post season bids this year and next, "G" will definitely be on some BCS conference team's radar.

G had a great gameplan and greatly outclassed Martelli, who has been a disaster this year coaching this St. Joe's squad. And unlike most of our other games where we allowed teams to sneak back in after building a big lead, we never lost our focus and kept St. Joe's pretty much out of the game.

G once said, at the Moose a few years back, that his general rule for taking a job upgrade is that the new place would have to "more than double" his salary. He also assured us that he wouldn't be offered a job like that unless he brought La Salle significant success, like back to back NCAA bids - in which case he would be leaving us on very solid ground. I definitely think he's on teams' radars, and he'd have every right to move on to bigger and better deals. I would hold no grudges whatsoever if he left for a BCS job, even if it's after only getting us 1 NCAA bid.
