Just got in as well. The alley-oop was the ultimate screw you to Roberts and St. Joe's. I was right behind Garland as he threw it up and couldn't have been happier.
Galloway's stat line today was beyond impressive with 16 and 12, and Duren could not miss. What a game.

Played with the confidence of a team on a mission. Answered all their runs Duren showed why he is the best. This is the team we all have been waiting for. Keep locking down the D. Play as a team. Get our bigs contributing. How about the emotion of Jerrel? Just an absolute terrific victory. I am thrilled! I bet Phil is green with envy that he lacks a guard with Tyreek's skills. Made a world of difference in this game.

I think all 4 of our guards are better than any one of theirs. Langston Galloway and Garland are probably a push.

Team has a chance to win 25 games this season which in anybody's book is a great year particularly with the number of good teams they have beaten or played. Believe they will beat Temple and win Big 5 outright and probably win at least 1 game but more likely two in the A10 tourny and maybe if evrything goes great win 1 or 2 NCAA games. 25-9 would be outstanding.

Martelli whining about flops in the press conference. Haven't watched G yet, but I'm sure he didn't go on about guys hooking to get around their defenders.

Back from the game and boy am I smiling. As someone mentioned earlier, the place was electric. It appeared to me that La Salle had more fans at the game then St. Joe's. At the very least, our fans were much more animated throughout. The student section was particularly great.
Overall, it was a great team effort, but the two stars of the game were Duren and Galloway. Mills and Wright also contributed. My only beef was our interior D. It was absolutely atrocious today. Why Frankenstein didn't have Aiken in there attacking the basket in the second half is beyond me. He was nailed to the bench most of the second half.
One other thing. Martelli is and always has been a tool and a media whore. It was sweet beating him and the Joey's.

I had a chance to go to the game today. Packed house, alums from all different eras, electric atmosphere. But then again, what else would you expect at the Palestra?
You can really see how this team has developed since the beginning of the year. No-look passes, anticipating each others moves, offense executed with confidence, like clock-work.
This team is so different from previous years...even with a four-point lead, you still feel that they're in control of the game, not the usual hanging on by their fingertips feeling. I really think they can handle whoever they draw in the first round, they look that good.
Our students had St. Joe's overwhelmed on the "roll outs," although I couldn't read any of them since our seats were behind and to the left of the student section.
Tyreek Duren was outstanding, once again, with 29 points. Ramon Galloway played his usual first-class game and had 16. Steve Zack did all those little things that help a lot, but don't necessarily show up in the box score. The team made over 60% its field goals and 3-pointers.
We've been waiting a long time for a group of players like this to come along.
Thursday at Temple is next!

I was able to listen to the game at work and watched the recording after. Besides the obvious my favorite development of this game was the monster effort from Wright. I don't think his stat line did him even close to the justice he deserved. If we can get consistent effort from him and Zack can attempt to stay out of foul trouble this team is even more dangerous than before

That play in the second half where he grabbed like 3 offensive boards and drew a foul was my favorite play of the game. Great work.

But I suspect Martelli would like to go to war with the guards he has and a true very good point guard like Tyreek. Its a glaring piece they are missing. I do not mean to slight any of our gurards. My gosh Ramon had 12 assists andseems to be everywhere and do everything excep tmaybe sell tickets.

I just love the way our players are fine with deferring to each other. They play for each other and are willing to allow any of them to be successful in any game: Tyreek (SJU/PSU), Mills (Fordham), Garland (Iona), Peterson (GW), and Ramon pretty much all season.

Martelli whining about flops in the press conference. Haven't watched G yet, but I'm sure he didn't go on about guys hooking to get around their defenders. Martelli needs his eyes checked if he didn't think HK charged. Let's give credit to Rohan Brown for standing his ground and taking that charge(maybe something his players might think about doing). Look at the footage provided on Goexplorers.com. Tell me it wasn't a charge. Also Martelli should expect a call from the league and some sort of punishment for his comments about the "poor refereeing". The same refereeing that didn't call a personal foul on his team for the first ten minutes of the first half. The same refereeing that didn't call illegal screens except for when HK nearly decapitated one of our players. I want to also give credit to the unsung player of the game. DJ played absolutely wonderful defense. G made a great decision to have DJ guard Aiken who basically is a 3pt threat. A 6-10 who plays like a 6-5. G never had to worry about Aiken posting up because Aiken never seems to want any part of that. I said very early in this thread that the team needed to control their emotions early, not worry about Aiken's shot blocking and not let their bigs dominate us. IMO the team did all those things. Great job by everyone. Only negative for me were some idiots in the student section throwing stuff on the court. Especially when Ira Davis was being honored at halftime. What was that all about? Really stupid. The students have been great. Don't let a couple of idiots give everyone a bad name. Speaking of Davis, it was a great reception that he received. Even the SJU fans gave him a standing ovation. Very nice gesture on their part. Student section destroyed SJU in the roll out department. My favorite was about Jameer's coattails being worn out. Looks like SJU students are at war with the AD over their rollouts for Temple game. There are statements on SJU board about one of the student leaders being charged with violating "Community Standards" by their AD. Talk about the wheels coming off the wagon. The season with so much promise for them is ending in Students vs the AD and the alums wanting heads to roll and upwards of 1000 season ticket holders not renewing their season tickets. The Hawk Will Never Die but it sure looks like a lot are bailing on this situation.

And it's so obvious that our group of guards (Duren, Galloway, Mills, Garland, and Peterson) are much, much, much better than St. Joe's group of guards. It's not even close. That was on display for everyone to see yesterday. And in addition to our guards being really, really good - I think our bigs are showing nice progress from last year. They still need to work on some things, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Wright and Zack continuing to improve next season.

I think our team defense was also way better than St. Joe's defense. And it wasn't even close. They had so many shots they had to make with five seconds or less on the shot clock that were not quality looks. I don't think they had one open three in a half court set the whole game, whereas we had about 12. They also were having a really hard time penetrating. Like the whole game.
Interesting that we didn't press them at all, unlike what we do against everyone else. I thought we would since they have no depth but it worked. We didn't get into any foul trouble in terms of getting into the bonus.
I also loved the "stall" plays we went into. So much spacing's created and Tyreek and Ramon could just drive at will against that. And then it also ended up with that dagger open three from Sammy and also let Jerrell/Steve get in good position for rebounds.
We did give up some easy dunks but St. Joe's was looking for that. That's a big part of their offense and you aren't going to win every possession. But we kept them from making that pass and/or caused a turnover on that end a bunch.
We have four guys in Tyreek, Sammy, Ramon and DJ who are superb defenders. Tyreek has REALLY stepped up in that department. Ty Garland's also no longer a sieve -- he's getting the hang of what we want to do very quickly.

Agree, my point is St Joe's does not have anything that resmbles a point guard .Perhaps i did not make it clearly enough. Sorry about that. We have a stellar one. And yes, Ramon can do it all I too can gush over our guards, they deserve it, but thanks for the info.

It's that even if you gave St. Joe's a point guard like Duren our other guards are better and we're deeper. Our guard group as a whole is so much better than their's and have way better chemistry. It's about more than Tyreek and Galloway, it's also about the whole group.

His postgame presser was a friggin joke. He's complaining about the refs, he's calling Tyreek's performance a fluke (they played it on CSN...something to the effect that he's not a 5-for-6 shooter...if we put him out there right now with a ball, he wouldn't go 5-for-6.) He's such a douchebag. In victory & in defeat.

I hope we play them again in Brooklyn and give them the beating they would've gotten without the bigs TOs early and that Duren goes 5/6 again so we can shit Martelli up once and for all.
I bet Duren WOULD hit 5/6 if he's all alone, it's why he was 5/6 because his team couldn't close out on the perimeter and all they do is clog the lane and try to spike te ball and they call it defense

He was getting wide open looks which would help his percentages and when he keeps his elbow in (not too much) he is a very good shooter. When his elbow gets outside of his shoulders, his release is flat and inconsistent.

And their fandom… the arrogance, the delusions of grandeur, and the utter contempt for La Salle. SJU (PA) fans are not gracious losers if I was to judge from their board. That’s what makes beating that program so much fun.

I am no fan of Martelli but I think his press conference was sincere when it came to praising Duren's performance. Don't make too much out of the comment about "take him out there now and he won't make 5-6", it's a compliment. He did say he plays the game the right way and it was a marvelous performance.
