It is with much sadness that I have been asked by the family to inform the La Salle BB community of Joe’s passing today from pancreatic cancer. Please keep Joe and the family in your prayers. Joe was a dedicated La Salle alum as you all know from his annual Jellybean fundraising challenge for Basketball over the years. May he Rest In Peace.

True La Salle supporter. He supported not only basketball but many other sports. Really knew his La Salle history.
He also by far knew the officials better than anyone. He could tell you all you need to know about the officials working the La Salle game any night. You knew from his knowledge whether La Salle was going to need to beat the refs that night as well.
RIP Joe.

This is really sad news. Although I never met him in person, I knew him as a staunch supporter of La Salle, La Salle basketball and many other La Salle sports. He seemed to be a kind man who really knew his basketball. My prayers go out to him and his family.

He fought hard for the past year since being diagnosed and was a wonderful human being. I was really hoping he would pull through, and getting the text from another friend and from a member of his family today was like a punch in the gut. I'm going to miss his texts and phone calls tremendously.

I'm sorry to hear this.
I didn't know him, but I saw his posts and knew about his "Jellybean Challenge."
I wouldn't wish his affliction on anyone and could only imagine what he went through.
I'd like to think that he's in a better place, pain free.

Thank you Joe for always being supportive as a friend of ours and as a great friend of La Salle. I'll miss those days we used to analyze every bit of the box score looking for an upside and reasons to look forward to the next game. I'll keep trolling the Dayton fans in your honor but it just won't be as fun anymore without you.

So sad to hear about this happening to a terrific supporter of La Salle and MBB. Always enjoyed his posts and insight. Sorry our paths never crossed outside the Board. Will keep family in prayers.

Sorry to hear this. Joe and I got to know each other like 5 years back. I was in one of my "walk away from La Salle" eras. He brought me back. Great person. Had lost his mother about a year and a half ago. Rest in peace, my friend.

This is very sad news. Joe reached out to me after my initial posts on this board. Despite being many miles apart, we became friends over countless calls, emails, and texts, and I had the pleasure of attending a few games with Joe when I could make it up to campus. We’ve lost a wonderful person. May he Rest In Peace.

Very saddened to hear this. We exchanged many emails and messages regarding the team and school. Our last email exchange was in April, almost 3 months to the day, and he said the chemo was working, and the tumors were so tiny, they weren't appearing on the CT scan. It was a positive email, in a draining battle. I have a friend that is battling pancreatic cancer as well, and I've come to learn that when things go silent on treatment and progress, it's usually not good news. Knowing this, I'm still shocked and saddened by Jellybean's passing. I hope he is reunited with his mother, watching down on his children and grandchildren. Damn.

I put the bug in Kale's ear last night about honoring Joe at a game this year. Hopefully that happens. Joe was never one who wanted the spotlight, but he definitely deserved it.
I was looking back on some old texts during the season. I had forgotten how much he loved the parlay bets with some obscure teams and would tease the points down on other games. He would do his homework on these teams and tell me he always looked for value in these obscure bets. I wasn't enough of a student of the game to do that but his explanations on it were always so detailed.

Terrible news. He made this board a better place with his insightful commentary and scouting reports. He made la Salle a better place with his generosity and drive. All the best to his friends and family. He will be missed even by those (like myself) that never got to know him outside of this board. Rest In Peace.

Very sorry to hear this. I didn’t know him personally, but reading his obituary, I think we would have gotten along great. Cancer is the worst.

Absolutely awful news!
I have to say I really enjoyed reading some your stories. It's clear Joe made it a purpose to reach out and connect with so many on this board. He reached out to me shortly after I joined and we've exchanged numerous emails over the years but lost touch shortly before the pandemic. He truly made this board a better place, was a champion for La Salle and will be missed.
Rest in Peace Joe!

Jellybean challenge was first time I donated to the school. I had heard this news separate from this board, having attended La Salle with one of his children - but did not know it was jellybean from Explorertown til I read here tonight. Very sorry to hear this, my heart goes out to those who knew him personally.
