A Note from the Neuminastrator
Post by theneumann64 on Oct 7, 2012, 7:11pm
(Terrible pun, I know)
So, here we are. After years of fit and starts, Temple trolls and Explorer Steve's, the scout board has finally bit the dust. Kind of sad, I've spent probably 80% of La Salle games since I graduated in 2008 watching the games online, while talking about them in a game thread. But hopefully that can continue here.
So Joe was willing to hand over the reigns of this site to me, as his philahoops duties prohibit him from running a separate board, but hopefully he'll still post here still. I know he said he'd prefer if we moved the operation to the La Salle board there, but respectfully, I still think we need our own board, separate from other schools' fans (troll or otherwise).
The new board will give us one major advantage: the ability to ban people. I and whoever else becomes a moderator (more on that later) will not use this lightly. Mostly just to limit people who clearly add nothing to the discussion, and are either trying to flame, or just post irrelevant nonsense.
I am going to consider this new board a fresh start. Anyone who may have been on the "Ignore List" on the last site, that will be a thing of the past as far as I'm concerned-for now. And since it's unlikely people who used to troll the old board will sign up with the same name here, I won't be banning anyone without them doing anything wrong ON THIS BOARD.
I've deleted all old posts from when we sort of started this site two years ago. I just figured it would be too strange having half a dozen posts from 2010 up.
With all of that out of the way, I really have no desire to do any hard-core site administrator-ing, and I don't think we need it. I think the 15-20 of us (and hopefully that number will grow) who post here regularly just want to talk La Salle basketball in peace. I promise I will do everything I can to allow that to happen.
I would also like 1 or 2 more people to help me Moderate this thing. I'm sure there will be times when I don't check the site for days, and someone could be trolling, or there could be some other kind of problem that needs attention. Ideally someone who was on the old board and would like to help out, and not looking to piss people off.
I also have no real web design experience or anything like that. I personally don't really care what the board looks like, as long as the type is readable, and people don't have gigantic, clunky avatars and signatures. But if you'd like to do something in that area, please let me know.
The only, slightly unpopular rule I'm going to have is this: I will not allow links to streams for illegal streaming of the games. Sure, in the past I've been guilty of this, but just reading up a bit on the internet, I don't want any part of an admin role in a site that's actively facilitating the streaming of illegal content. I won't be monitoring people's Private Messages (nor would I be able to if I wanted, I don't think) but requests for people to PM them a link will be deleted as well. It's the same principal. And let's face it, it's annoying when every game someone posts "any link for a stream?" If you want one, you should be able to find one on your own. I understand the chances of anything happening are small, but it's just a risk I don't want invited in here.
Anything else you guys want to talk about? Suggestions? Want to be a Moderator? Let's get a discussion going, I'm sure I could use the help.

"any link for a stream?"
No seriously, I'm in agreement that I'd rather have good quality over quantity so I'm fine with a board that's readable and easy to use rather than loaded with graphics and formatting. Hopefully this site also supports mobile devices so we can check from our phone when we're (cough) working, to stay up to date especially with game day threads.
My one idea would be to have the game threads on this main page so their easily accessed when the game is going on but they should be then moved into a special "Game Thread" section of the board a couple days after the game ends. This means they all are kept together and can be easily referred back to without going through all kinds of back threads.
Looking forward to the new board.

I can verify this board looks great on the IPhone, so no complaints from me.

The board format is quite good. I am happy that Neumann will moderate because (1) a demonstrated influx of young alumni in our fanbase is important (2) we won't have to tolerate the kind of nonsense we had been subjected ourselves to on past boards.
For the record, we did not leave scout.com. Scout.com left us with no moderation, no support, and a sudden and uncalled for downgrade of compatibility and reliability.
I have contacted the folks at the A10 board and asked that we no longer recognize scout.com, as well as replacing it with our link so that newly interested fans can find us. I also let hawkhoops forum know, since they are the only remaining local rival in the A10. I will also reach out to Dayton's Pride.

Thanks Hykos. I think good, knowledgeable, non-troll fans of other teams would add a lot of value to the board.

Mister D(elaware) checking in. Will be nice to not have the blocked posts littering the board.
(Although I'm all for giving Steve, singular, a chance back on if he wants to play by the rules. If he can make it through the next month without jumping topic, he'll have earned a spot. Until he can't help himself again, atleast.)

Can anyone who's changing their name let us know what their name was on the old board? That would be helpful. Thanks.
Oh and I liked the pun too.

Definitely would like this too. You don't have to do it obviously, if you're looking for a new start or whatever, but most people would like to know I think.

I changed my username from letgoflyers5 on the old board to stlexplorer on this board. No more Dayton accusations and more representative of me living out in St. Louis
