Although I guess to some extent Uber/Lyft kinda wipes out some of those considerations.

The Septa rail system would probably work. Might have to Uber to the train station depending upon where it was. Buses of course as well.

Maybe. I'm working on a Cheltenham PA concept that is as unrealistic as my "Create your own conference" thread but makes sense in every way. Still fine tuning some stuff. Nah, east Newtown, PA. The old Thiokol facility, not far from I-95, needed some major land acquisition. LaSalle -Bucks County.......the Acme approach, abandon Philly. (actually the Catholic League/schools bailed as well). Too late now. Back in 1997 - 1999 La Salle was presented with the opportunity to acquire a large tract of land at low cost to relocate the University to Warminster, Bucks County that was part of the 824 acres of NAWC, the former Naval Air Warfare Center at Street Road and Jacksonville Road which officially closed as of March 31, 1997. After a series of meetings and tours of the site ( arranged by then U.S. Congressman, the late Mike Fitzpatrick - a La Salle alum - the University's Delegation subsequently declined to pursue further interest or consideration. The land in question is now fully occupied by, among other things, a COSTCO store, a hotel and the large Ann's Choice Over - 55 Retirement Community. www.bracpmo.navy.mil/brac_bases/northeast/former_warfare_center_warminster.html

What if you were a seven-iron from the city limit I got it. Tookany Park? Buy up a few country clubs. Fox Chase line. Not bad.

Probably was a tough sell because of the lack of usable buildings on site?

What makes 20th and Olney special is that it allows students and the university to serve those around it in the image of St John Baptist de La Salle. Whether this is through students especially in the education department doing tutoring and student teaching within walking distance, having kids walk to campus to get tutored, thru the health services provided to the surrounding communities that also allows for practical hands on experience for those in the nursing tract to the grocery store the university helped get opened.
Yes we all want great success for La Salle financially. And even though the location of the school never bothered me one bit, there are some who it is a turn off for. But do we sacrifice that and possibly sacrifice our mission and how we as a school community attempt to mirror the works of St John Baptist de La Salle?

Exactly. You can't do St. John Baptiste de La Salle work if you don't survive as a school. Make La Salle stronger, whatever it takes and then other things fall into place. I also was never bothered by the location for years. Truthfully I won't go into the cities any longer. Just too dangerous. My recent visits to Philly (not La Salle) and Baltimore where not fun and concerning. La Salle would do well to move elsewhere but as someone mentioned, it is too late now. Some are not bothered and that is a good thing for the school but it is obvious the location hurts us.

The school needs the local students and commuters.

The city location should be a selling point, but with the rising crime rate and seeming lawlessness throughout some parts of the city, I don't think it is any longer. Are parents of college aged kids comfortable having them walking down to Broad and Olney to catch the sub downtown? I don't see how they could be. Even when you get off at city hall you are dodging piles of human shit and used needles.

I get the need to need to have a school. Maybe we are what we are. Will we ever have a facility like say the Davis Center combined with whatever they call the Ski Lodge? Probably not. And understandably this is a basketball board, but what is our greater good? Hopefully getting a new president who knows how to fix finances (what I’ve read on the interim is good) instead of someone from that hole of a country Canada who was more interested in being woke and having pet dorms will yield results

Should have taken a clue From the high school. Bucks or Montgomery County? Too late. Maybe. “I'm working on a Cheltenham PA concept that is as unrealistic as my "Create your own conference" thread but makes sense in every way. Still fine tuning some stuff. ” Sounds like you are talking about a merger with Arcadia U !

Am I the only one that wishes it was still called Beaver College? I do. I'm also not in favor of giving into the lowest common denominator of society (alluding to the "reason" for the change). I'm big on tradition and that's where I got my masters from.

What this board truly needs more of is your insightful political discourse. FWIW Off topic but speaking of ripping LAS: this evening Mayor Kenney said "I guess La Salle was taking a nap" for not participating in the Philadelphia New Americans Campaign (immigration stuff I believe?) when the 5 other city schools are involved. I wonder what his thoughts are on G ?! FWIW, fuck Jim Kenney.

People like MisterD and Joe can sit back from their suburban cul-de-sac and opine about decisions of Jim Kenney that have little to no bearing on them. Those that directly affected feel more passionately.

He came to a basketball game 2 or 3 years ago with his girlfriend (who if I'm not mistaken played basketball and abruptly resigned from her coaching position at Neumann-Goretti amid some scandal) and couldn't have looked more disinterested in being at the game. Colleen ran from her seat to fawn all over him, and he kind of blew her off. It was a really weird interaction that he had with her and the others around him.

Those that directly affected feel more passionately. Given that I haven't lived in PA aside from college, the "little to no bearing" part rings true. I've never opined on any of his decisions because I couldn't tell you a single decision he's ever made.
