Scott Spencer has found a home:
Tulane has landed La Salle transfer Scott Spencer, source told @stadium. Terrific shooter who led the A-10 in 3-point percentage.

So we have 3 transfers so far, 5 including Stone and Hakim. I think any more than this and we're in dangerous territory.

I don’t think we should throw Beatty and Spencer in the same group as stone and kimbrough etc. it isn’t a surprise they’re going the grad transfer route.

Jared is the only one we will miss. I wish the others the best as well, but can’t say I am disappointed.

It's still a roster defection. A spot to fill before eligibility is used up. Beatty was too up and down, but chances are, he's better than an incoming freshmen.

He wasn’t better than our younger players and he shouldn’t take their minutes. He also may not be better than a transfer we may get with college experience. Time for Ash to start putting together a decent roster.

I'm more than a little surprised at Fatts Russell's decision.
The article I saw said: "He could be seeking an opportunity at a bigger program with more eyes and attention on him as he will pursue his dream of a chance to play professionally.
“As I look at my next step as a professional, I want to ensure I am making the best decision that will help me fulfill my dreams,” Russell said."
When you go from first team A-10 to third team, injuries or not, you're risking going from being a leader at Rhode Island to the invisible man at a bigger program. I saw that Michigan is interested in him and they have a boatload of senior guards this year, but the Big 10 isn't the A-10 and what you were able to do against mid-majors you might not get away with in a higher caliber league.

I assume right now Russell’s being advised he’s headed for Europe and wants to take a shot a level up to see if he can get G-League looks.

Assistant coach Tony Bergeron is out at UMASS according to the Boston Globe - school bought him out. He was Tre Mitchell’s HS coach. He also coached like 5 or 6 UMASS guys in HS. Things are going to hit bottom there unless the waiving of the sit out year for transfers goes thru and they pick up a bunch

I think the younger guys need to get their minutes at this point. Stone was not ready for primetime but I see him as the kind of guy the Davidson coach would eventually turn into a player in that system. Not sure what we would do with him once he got the right seasoning though in the game we play. Relatively speaking I see Jarrod as the greater loss at this point. While we aspire to better "bigs", with losing Kimbrough we lose a serviceable big guy. I think his leaving creates a bit of a hole. I am interested in seeing how or if we can fill it. Will we have a better caliber big replacement for Jarrod next year? Will we find this portal is a two way orifice of some value to us? I fear not. Now that we are the worst team in the A 10 I fear it will just help to cement our position there.

They make like 35K, I believe, unless you get a 2 way contract.

Yes and no? They make $7,000 per month no expenses for 5 months.

A college degree would earn 2-3 times that by accident. I get playing in Europe for 6 figures, but 35K isn't much money, not worth leaving an A10 school. Ruben played in the G league, BJ is a G league stud, so in can certainly be done from this conference.

But it’s not quite half a year and no expenses. It’s not a $35K per year salary.

After 4 pages of interesting spins and opinions this thread has finally hit on the heart of the matter. The "old School" mindset in dead. We like to believe that our school is our bond and our team is an avatar for that bonded relationship. No more. The reality is that while we may feel deeply about it, few if any share our commitment. The reality today in sport generally and college basketball in particular is that we continue to believe our college is a home and our players think it's Bus Station. It's not a LaSalle problem - It is the business model of the entire system. The change is permanent. It is what it is. The student body will continue to angst over the fortunes of their teams while the hired hands just keep playing the system.

Good post and it really doesn't even have to be a negative. Think about 2013; we had Duren and Jerrell as the legacy guys, but our best player and our most memorable play don't happen if it was 25 years before when kids didn't transfer all that much.

Explorerman: Not an expert on the subject, but am referring to information posted over time by phillyhoops4life (Delgreco Wilson). If you go back to the Maryland game thread for instance, Delgreco posted that the difference in the monthly stipend at a Penn State/Maryland vs a La Salle/ Drexel is $2000-$3000 per month vs $300-$400 per month. If you go to Delgreco's Black Cager website and look up his article entitled "The Big 10's (Successful) Attack on Philly Mid-Majors you'll see a detailed description of the subject. I personally think that if not for the difference in the stipend that someone like Donta Scott would be at La Salle and not Maryland.
I accompanied Donta Scott on visits to Seton Hall, South Carolina, Maryland and Temple...
The NBA arenas got his attention... The training tables got his attention... The luxury apartments got his attention... The weight rooms got his attention... The private jets got his attention... The 4 and 5 star hotels got his attention...
There's a big gap between the Power 5 and the other guys...
It gets wider every season

Where are the transfers on the Ramblers Wister? They have ONE Juco player. That's it. There is still a case to be made in building a program. The roster just has to be on the same page, and players have to buy in to their roles. Transfers are going to run rampant, but successful mid-majors aren't going to see a mass exodus of players. When St. Joes was the #1 team in the country, the thought was that a mid major would never reach the Final 4 again. Too many obstacles, the deck is stacked against them, yada yada yada. Only 2 years later, Mason, as a CAA school that shouldn't have been in the Dance over Hofstra, beats a who's who of basketball blue bloods en route to the Final 4. Then the one and done rule was supposed to kill mid major basketball. Only Cal dumped the world on its fucking head dominating Conference USA at Memphis. Then he's goes to Kentucky, and it was supposed to be the end of mid majors having a shot. Only Butler goes to back to back Finals out of the Horizon League, the second time after losing sophomore Gordon Hayward to the NBA. VCU goes from being the last team in the field to the Final 4. The BCS becomes the Power 5. Again, a death knell to schools not playing major college football. UConn wins a title out of the AAC. Nova wins 2 titles out of the new big east. Loyola makes the Final 4. The zags make the finals. This year's tournament is the closest thing to playing in a vacuum that you're going to get being in a bubble, without de facto home games. You're seeing 15, 14, and 13 seeds win. Loyola will make the Elite 8. My point is, that every rule that was predicted to be a permanent game changer to the "little guys," hasn't been a game changer. Pundits have been wrong. Unless the NCAA tweaks this transfer rule, it's going to be a clusterfuck similar to high level high school athletics. However, the smart coaches, the good coaches will adjust and continue to have success and stability. Nova has won more than Kentucky over the last 10 years, how many one and done players has Jay Wright recruited? La Salle made the Sweet 16 with 2 transfers, then we go transfer heavy, and we've yet to be better than 1 game above 500 in 8 years. I rest my case.

Hey,I read every post on this topic and everybody is correct, but the reason why Lasalle is not attracting the top player in PA. to play for Ash for two reason: money and location. We don't have the money and the facility to attracted top High School and college transfer player. Money talk and Bull sh*t walk. The second reason is the location of the University. The crime is so high in Philadelphia than the top talent in the city don,t want to stay home to play for a city University. Traci Carter would stay at Lasalle if it wasn't for the gun violent in Philadelphia (he was born and raise in Philly). When I was attending Lasalle, student was getting rob at gunpoint during the day. It sad that top player don't want to play for a Big 5 University in Philly(except Villanova).
