I took this to mean we are leaving money on the table, but we are trading that for the personal service of an agent.

I can’t tell from the article if the actual money/value in goods from the contract will be less than we have received in the past, and if so how much it will cost us. I’m sure La Salle has estimated all that. Also don’t know if UA was planning to renew us, and if so, with what terms. I’m not an insider by any means, but you hear that UA has been struggling financially.
Since I am mostly interested in men’s b-ball, I wonder if this will have any impact on our recruiting. I’ve seen some say that overall Nike seems to get the best players, followed by UA and lastly Adidas. Someone like Del would have a good take on how this may impact recruiting.

I took this to mean we are leaving money on the table, but we are trading that for the personal service of an agent. I took this to mean that Adidas is not putting up ANY cash money, in advance at signing or on an annual basis, ( to La Salle ) on the table. " There is not a cash component for the Explorers, but there will be opportunities for discounts, rebates and other incentives ".
I also took this to mean that Adidas is outsourcing the servicing of the La Salle account to a vendor ASB Sports for all Explorers sports teams other than men's and women's basketball.

In my opinion I don't like the deal that the school sign with Adidas. I don't see the different with Adidas and UA when come to the basketball program. The only thing Adidas will do is to promote their brand on the program. The money they get from Adidas, they could improved the basketball facilities at LaSalle. The top college basketball program like Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Kansas wear Nike and Nike give those program million of dollars to have the player wear their brand. In my opinion; top High School player will sign on to a program that wears the Nike brand. Shoes don't win game, player do,but it wouldn't hurt to have Nike helping the LaSalle basketball program.

The thing about agreements is that you need two willing parties.

It sounds much like the Adidas deal at the HS I coach at. We do have a vendor we work through. No cash, but some free uniforms and supposed discounts on Adidas merch for our programs, but it's very convoluted and not easy to get things through them. I know we looked at UA and their deal was similar. Remember we're a HS, this is a college in a decent conference...

Kansas is Adidas to respond to the post above
Adidas is a much bigger draw in the grassroots world than UA
A lot of big programs with Adidas like Louisville and Miami
This is a deal typical for a non high major school. Basketball gets taken care of thru the shoe company and the rest get taken care of thru a company that deals in the sports uniform, equipment, and apparel business
As Nike literally has everyone else in the city - Nova, Drexel, Temple, Penn, Joe’s - then La Salle had less power with them and getting Adidas differentiates La Salle. Also, if you think that Joe’s soccer for example is getting all their stuff comped thru Nike you would be most likely wrong.

My impressions ( reading between the lines ) based entirely upon guesswork / surmise on my part :
-- Surprised there isn't more interest in discussing this important topic by others on this Board ;
-- La Salle, with little or no bargaining leverage, took the only kind of sneaker / uniforms deal they could get ;
-- La Salle's current contract with Under Armour expires at the end of August, and either Under Armour wasn't interested in renewing ( perhaps due to their current financial woes ) or La Salle was dissatisfied with Under Armour's past performance ;
-- La Salle AD Brian Baptiste retained the services of Dan Gale of Leona Marketing Group to get us a new sneaker / uniforms deal with Nike ( preferably ) or Adidas by assessing potential interest in the market, generating a RFP and soliciting Bids. Nike either wasn't interested or offered less than Adidas. The only type of deal Adidas would do with La Salle was / is this new hybrid type of bifurcated arrangement, with Adidas directly servicing La Salle's men's and women's basketball Programs only, little or no cash consideration, and outsourcing the servicing of all of the remaining La Salle men's and women's sports ( " Olympics sports " ) to a newly-created third party entity, ASB Sports.

Under Armour is in trouble. They dropped UCLA and Temple among others. Plank has an affinity for the Brothers of the Christian Schools having attended St. John’s of DC. The clothing product is good but players don’t like the basketball shoes. Adidas is a good fit for hoops

Obviously apples and oranges with us and Louisville but if you watch a Louisville home game they have the big Cardinal on the court and he wears Adidas shoes. We should have offered the Explorer draped over the court wearing Adidas. Hopefully they would probably pay the cost for the court work and throw in some extra dough

Sure hope this is not representative of what we can expect from Adidas in imaginative, creative, cutting - edge Explorers athletic teams apparel : View Attachment It's a little much that they show the Adidas logo twice. The focal point should be the L in a much larger font and the Adidas logo should show once at the size shown on that shirt.
