Being that he is the Temple beat writer, I'm going to guess Temple will be voted #1.
This is the first year that La Salle has finished at the top of the Philahoops rankings, and I hope that they stay there.

He showed enormous restraint by putting Temple at #4.
I just don't quite understand the St. Joe's hype yet. Nova should be ahead of them with a win in head to head as well as two top 10 wins. Notre Dame is feeling like ages ago for the Hawks, and the St Joe's win over Temple, by everyone's accounts, required a Temple meltdown in the final 5 minutes. St. Joe's is on a tear recently, but you have to ignore a lot of warts (their 3 pt shooting is abysmal) to say they are the #2 team in the city.

Give them credit for winning the game, but St. Joe's was losing to Fordham with like less than 50 seconds to play last week.

I think the polls are basically supposed to rflect the recent play of teams, not necessarily body of work. I think SJU is a terrible match up for us much the way UMass was/is because of their size and ability of their bigs, specifically Kanacevic, to pass the ball. If we can't keep them from passing the ball inside it will be a long afternoon for Explorer fans. Key to beating SJU will be forcing a lot of TOs and forcing guys like Jones and Wilson to handle the ball most of the time in a half court set as much as possible
I don't buy into the SJU hype either, they don't have a true PG and when they aren't throwing alley-oop dunks they aren't really scoring the ball either. We are one play away from being on a 4 game winning streak, including 2 road games in tough venues and 3 Top 50 opponents, so I get why we would be put up as #1 in the city, but it's not by much.

StJ is a good but not great team that has not played to its potential. I think we r more talented- but matchups are sometimes more imp. than talent. Bec of their great advantage inside, our guard will have to dominate L.Galloway and Jones. Our 2 bigs are decent but not dominant in any phase of game, CJ dominates on D; Kanacevic dominates with passing and yes, attitude; and RR Jr. is fearsome around basket. Ramon, TD and TG have to outscore Jones And LG by 20 and Sam has to contribute to that end by shutting down 1 of their guards.

I would agree SJU is a tough match-up for us but their guards may be a little beaten down when we play them. There is zero depth there and they have played a lot of minutes this year. I thought their guards got tired late in the season last year.
Our bigs should fare better than last year. Zack was not even a factor in that game and Jerrell was in foul trouble if I remember correctly. Devon White was abysmal so I do think we will show better in the frontcourt.
Still the advantages for both are clear. Whomever dictates the play wins the game. We shall see but the atmosphere should be great.

I like our matchups against Temple better than St. Joe's. I think Mills can do a decent job on Wyatt and our bigs matchup better with Temple. St. Joe's size really presents a problem for us. If they get the ball inside we could be in trouble.

I don't take any Keith Pompey article seriously, and I'm a Temple fan. There is not much in his articles. It seems like he just copies and pastes whatever he comes across on the Temple board or elsewhere.
He did have an opinionated article where he said fans were wrong in wanting Scootie Randall benched. His reasoning was ridiculous. He said Scootie has to play and shoot his way out of a slump because the Owls aren't going anywhere without him.
Ummm, look where the Owls are now with Scootie shooting up bricks every night. They are out of the tournament.
Owls should be starting freshman DeCosey. Owls have no room not to start and play their best players.

I think our bigs are actually progressing really well and SJU won't have as great an advantage down low as they did last time. Zack still doesn't have the foot speed to match some opponents and couldn't catch the ball on Saturday, but I'll still gladly take this year's Steve Zack over the combination of last year's Steve and Devon White. And I think Jerrell is starting to turn the corner offensively. He's looked really impressive at that end of the floor in most of our games going to back to the win over Richmond.

An honest assessment has us #2 behind temple. I think nova will lose another game and be sent home to host the NIT unless they take a scalp in manhattan madness
