I was on the 87 bus to MSG, great time! Same here. You would have thought we were going to the national title game. Fellow La Salle grad and I took two of our Temple friends with us on the bus and they loved every minute of it. Talked about that trip for years.

The most painful game ever that was very nice of you to only include the first half. second half was the most painful 20 minutes of basketball ever. one of the biggest "what if's" in la salle basketball history.

Still bothers me. Unfortunately I did upload the rest of the game, in 5 parts, though the 3rd is just the halftime show which shows UNLV who won the national title by 30 points struggling to beat an Ohio State team we beat by 12 at the super dome earlier in the season. We truly coulda beaten anyone

Agree about the pain. The loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Columbia in 1968 at the old Cole field house still bothers me. I think the team was playing scared because of Jim Harding. This team returned everybody the next year with the exception of Lefty Ervin plus added Durrett. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/boxscores/1968-03-09-columbia.html

What a team. Running them off the floor. Overton and woods turning them over regularly and getting layups out of to. Simmons leading breaks and posting up on dale davis, having a giant totally befuddled by the high release. Special team. Will always bug me

I think they would have beaten Connecticut in the next round but you have to beat Clemson to have a chance to get there.

What many forget is that Clemson was lucky to get by an unheralded BYU team in the first round. BYU was ahead 46-39 with under 4 minutes and wound up losing 49-47. BYU also missed a pretty easy layup with 7 seconds left that would have put them back ahead by a point. This game was played just before our game with Southern Miss. I don’t think BYU was athletic enough to stay with that La Salle team

Loved that you could draw 10,000 plus to the Civic Center for the big games. Remember that team and the core players like it was yesterday.

In case anyone needs a palette-cleanser after today’s stinker...
A super rare upstate ny cable broadcast of la salle’s win over Niagara in January 1990:
