Saul should have been in the game during overtime for Hikim Completely disagree with this take. The comeback started when Ash put Hakim back in the game since sitting with 3 fouls. He fueled the comeback by causing St. Louis all kinds of problems with his quickness and drive and dish plays. The offense really struggled when he sat after his second foul in the first half and third foul earlier in the second half. Kid plays with toughness and brings a lot of weapons. He does need to avoid the tendency to try to make the perfect or sometime borderline impossible pass and to make unforced turnovers. That will come with maturity and experience but he absolutely had to be in the game in the OT and it would have been foolish to sit him. As said somewhere else in this thread, one of the turnovers was probably not his fault anyway. Also, not having Kenny really hurt at times. Would have given us another ball handler but nothing you can do about injuries. On another subject, Ed was a monster and was not at all intimidated by French. Shows what he can do when he can stay on the floor. Fantastic game against an opponent with a tough front court. The last play of inbounding the ball you have a guy who has a ton of turnovers and some huge turnovers in overtime taking the ball out??? When this Board talk about Saul who has the least turnovers ratio in a game!! Plenty of players play with toughness but it does not mean they have a high IQ on the floor...Hikim will have his time its up to Ash to teach him..

I was responding to you saying that Saul should have been in the OT instead of Hakim. Hakim needed to be on the floor in the OT.

Tough loss that I would chalk up to inexperienced players playing crucial roles in those situations. If the thought process is to put kids out there that need to learn and experience the situation so that they can develop in the future I am fine with that. Not fine with the loss but I’m fine with taking the risk for a learning opportunity.
Big Ed got a chance to learn as well and because he has some more experience was able to really capitalize. I imagine that in a similar situation later this year or next, the freshman PG will be ready to capitalize. If your view is only on winning that game, the coach made poor decisions. If the view is beyond that game and this season then he made the right decision. Better to learn the lesson now than next year when hopefully another step forward is taken.
Make no mistake, Hikim was dreadful in OT. he absolutely was and probably cost them the game. He did do a ton of things to get them into position to even be in OT, next step is learning to calm down in that situation and make better decisions. Keep fighting and keep learning. Good things will come. Some good talent that’s rough around the edges. Smooth it out and there’s a good thing building here.

Not changing my point i meant the entire OT but pointing out that particular play also! You dont lose a game just because its a "Get some experience moment"...Metrics says it all!

If you're pulling your now and future PG in crunch time because he's a freshman, you're not committing to building a program.

Situational...5 and 4 star players learn by playing...Villanova Starting guard learned the right way where Ash watched him grow! As i said very very early in the season you either go with a full youth movement or you win as many games as possible while letting your younger guys play but sit in moments and learn from some vets on what to do or not to do..This is a my humble opinion

Quickest way to go from GM to 1B coach.
