Did anyone notice G was really ticked after the game and got in Pappy Owen's grille and also walked away from the fight song early and headed to the locker room?
I think most of this had to do with his displeasure with Jerrell as he goes through Pappy when dealing with Jerrell and he also had his arms around Jerrell after the game. Initially I thought it had to do with the final shot but after reading the notes on the press conference I think G was livid with Jerrell's ole' defense on the UMASS final shot.
G was inconsolable.
I think G really understand we let a very important game slip from our grasp last night. If this team doesn't come out of the gates at GW on fire Saturday I will be really surpised.

Yes, I mentioned that last night right after the game... He did not help Mills on the pick and roll...
Just elementary school defense.. I would have been pissed off also..

I keep reminding myself, Jerrell is only a sophmore......then again he has a lot of games under his belt....seems like basic execution should be better.

I am really glad someone brought this up because it gives me a chance to chime in. From my vantage point, I think Coach is wrong on this one point regarding the winning shot for UMASS. What coach did not see was a Umass player totally push Jerrell in the back, making it impossible for him to cut off the lane to the basket. Jerrell was coming out to defend the other side of the high ball screen when he was blantantly pushed in the back, we all know the rest of the story. While I did not think this was the worst officiated game I have seen this year I really think an official with the proper amount of intestinal fortitude would have made the call.

La Salle did plenty of things to lose the game on their own but the refs sure didn't help. Four offensive foul calls in the first half with three of them being awful, especially the one against Rohan.
IMO, the worst and most critical call of the night was the and-one they gave to Esho with a little over 5 minutes left after he barrelled into Jerrell whose feet were planted at least a good second or two before Esho even drove to the basket. So instead of La Salle getting the ball back down one, UMass is up 55-51. Those three points were the difference in the game.
I didn't see the push on Jerrell at the end but I was wondering how Williams got so wide open on the game-winning basket.
And the last 8 seconds are a blur to me and they didn't include them on the game highlights on GoExplorers. My recollection is Ramon brought the ball up, passed the ball to Tyreek to the right of the top of the key, and I remember Jerrell being pretty open on the right baseline. Did Tyreek get fouled when he tried to make the pass or did the ball slip out of his hands because Jerrell ended up having to chase it to the left baseline?
Very disappointing loss. Can't afford to lose home games, especially to teams that you're better than.

Trust me, Jerrell was pushed from behind. Furthermore, did anyone think that Jerrell last shot at the buzzer should have been a goaltending call. Per the highlights I saw on Comcast you can see Steve Zack with a look of disbelief that the ref did not call the goaltend. Clearly the Umass player blocked the shot above the rim, I just can't tell if the ball was on line or off the mark.

Two things - first, is any one else upset Doc used the excuse Duren had been sick to somewhat defend why we lost last night's game?
Secondly, has our coach ever taken any of the blame when we lose games? Always seems to put it on the players , indirectly calling them out without naming names.

That said, it was so close that I thought they might call it and was surprised that they did not at least talk about it. It was a stupid decision by whomever grabbed it. Could you imagine if that call was made? Kellogg might have killed someone. ~Joe Fedorowicz Philahoops

Doc G never takes any praise either, however, he always heaps it on the players.
As for the Duren play - the CSN highlights were pretty good and it looked like Duren might have been fouled there for UMass to pop the ball loose like they did....it wasn't a designed pass to Jerrell he just kind of wound up with the ball - watching the CSN angle about 15 times in a row, Jerrell was positioned nicely on the right post ready for the pass from Tyreek when the UMass player jumped in front of Duren for a lot of physical contact which should have been a blocking call, instead the ball came loose on the left side, Jerrell chased it down and popped the rainbow shot but it was off line, but clearly grabbed above the rim. you can see Steve Zack is absolutely perplexed that neither call was made at the end.
I think you'll see these guys come out on an absolute tear on Saturday. If I were GW I would not be at all happy to be playing us after this game.

This bothered me last year because I felt he did that on a few occasions, but if you listen to the latest podcast, he put a lot of blame on himself for the Xavier and Miami losses, saying how he underestimated their guards and should have had our guys back off them a bit instead of continuing to pressure them.

Degler said it is an obvious call that has to be made every time it happens.

Dumb play by that UMass player to grab that ball. I guess the ref felt the shot was going to fall short of the rim. I couldn't tell from where I was sitting if that was the case.

No doubt that G is as passionate about his team as any coach in basketball. At times he can look silly, punching chairs, stomping feet, etc, but he shows that same passion when he talks about how much he cares for his players. I think G really does live and die with each game and at this point knows one win could make the difference which tournament we play in, in March

Building off 88's post, I think we blow GW's doors off with an impressive effort and that's coming from someone who thinks GW is a scary good, young team that can beat us. The team got a taste of success last week, no way we follow that up with an 0-2 week
