One of the legendary Philly HS players. Contests against Gene Banks were SRO and tremendous games. For those unfamiliar with him he was a Dr. J type player. Had a tough life.
RIP Lewis

Any Big 5 schools recruit him? I think he went to Drake.
Gone far too young.

I could be wrong, but I thought he had more of an Earl Monroe type game.

I should check this I could be wrong but I think he didn't qualify academically for any of the Big 5 schools. Went to a JC before Drake. Sort of like Rico Washington.

He did go to Juco before Drake. I think he might've not graduated from HS

Never met him, but I remember him playing in HS and the pros. He was a talented basketball player.

Thanks Del for the back ground and context re: Lloyd's career. Love the contrast to Banks. Probably could have added Michael Brooks also although Brooks faced a different set of challenges.
As and aside, did Studevan MS even have a gym or did you use the cafeteria? Did you play for Al Lewis at DTHS or had he moved on to Chester? Did you play for Perk? Just curious.

You know things!! #respect
Studevan ONLY had a cafeteria with low ceilings and short portable baskets!!
Yes... I played 3 years of varsity basketball for Al Lewis... 80-81, 81-82 and 82-83... Won a LOT of games!!
Perk was the assistant coach and is still a good friend!!

I have known Rapid Charles for 52 years...like Farmer's Insurance he knows a thing or two.
It is amazing how we take decent facilities for granted. When I was growing up, the teams in Southern DE had half moon wooden bank boards. The first digital basketball clock didn't hit Delaware until 1958. I love those old clocks that wound backwards and turned red in the last minute of the quarter ( check out movie Hoosiers.). Also, gyms that were not of regulation length, you had a mid court line for the center jump and 2 others for back court violations. The last one, I promise. At the old Wilmington High gym, you couldn't get a clear shot from the corners because of low balcony overhangs.
