Dear Friends,
On behalf of myself and my partner (CCE), we want to thank each and every one of you for stepping up and donating to the Challenge. I was delighted to see the enthusiasm and passion you had. This is why we started this challenge.
As Brian Quinn and Kale have said, we expect some more donations to come in over the next week. Currently we have 32 donors and should match last year's number of 36. We raised a total of $18,500 last year including the matching contributions and I feel confident we will do that this year. That would mean we contributed over $50000 in the last 3 years. Pretty awesome.
If anyone has any ideas of how we can improve this challenge please send me a private message. I have a few ideas.
I want to thank Charmcity Explorer for his help and friendship. I want to thank Kale and Brian for their support. I want to thank Joe Fed for moving this thread to a prominent spot on the board. Finally, I want to thank President Hancyz and VP for Advancement Cathleen Parsons- Nikolic for their messages thanking us on the board for contributing. They both are delighted we are making a significant contribution to the MBB program.
Thank you so much.
GO EXPLORERS
JB

Thank you, Jellybean and CCE, for your leadership in supporting our Explorer return to former glory on the court! This has been a great year of transition, with more to come in the days ahead. I am very grateful for all that each of you do on this Board to share your views, to push our program forward and to support with your resources. Thank you to all who have contributed to the Jellybean Challenge over the past three years - it is making a difference!
Thank you very much,
Colleen

Count me in again for the challenge. Thank you JB and CC. Uncle Ihor solicits his Wagner's Ballroom squad. I think we have 'Iceman' Jerry Butler agreeing to a small 'Never Give You Up' on La Salle Basketball donation. Ihor also has steered in a commitment from the 'Wagner Walk' folks who are strutting their stuff to Smokey and the Miracles' 'Good Good Feeling.' And before I retire into the 'still of the night,' Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, and the Vancouvers wish to relay if those Big 5 girls I once upon a time dated had an inkling of 'does your mother know about me, I'm a La Salle fan?' Give my regards to your Uncle Ace.

Was the annual day of giving cancelled? Postponed I think until May at this point. The update I saw from the Advancement Office indicated they felt it was more prudent right now to postpone given everything going on, especially with no students or staff on campus to build buzz and excitement. That being said, the links on the main website to give still work if you want to give and they will credit things toward the Day of Giving. giveto.lasalle.edu/pages/home-page-2

Just yesterday I went looking for the day of giving and Jelly Bean Challenge and found that it had been postponed. However, I did contribute to the student emergency fund to help the students needing assistance with on line learning, expenses in moving out of the dorms or off campus housing, getting home, etc. I will contribute when the challenge happens but this seems like a way to help during this difficult time.

Thanks for bringing up the Emergency Fund. I was on a call last night for one of the departments I work with at the school and they were saying it really is a needed thing and they have students who don't have the laptops with software required and available in the labs to do some of the work they need. They are looking at alternative options, but it's not like the school was flush with cash to put an infrastructure in place in a week to handle remote learning and software access. It's also easy to forget that there a lot of first-in-family to go to college students at La Salle who aren't as economically advantaged as others, and there are a number of students stuck or out of work that needed the work-study money or part time off-campus jobs to make tuition payments. This fund is meant to help towards some of that as well. The link is here to donate to that. I know this isn't "basketball-specific", but it's for the broader La Salle community that needs help. lasalle.force.com/connect/dn8n__SiteDonation?id=a1Nf4000009t8UC

Got this done this morning. It is a better feeling than making alimony payments.

Wasn't sure where to post this but I'm concerned that I can't find results for yesterday's day of giving on the website. Did it not go well?

Wasn't sure where to post this but I'm concerned that I can't find results for yesterday's day of giving on the website. Did it not go well? It went amazingly well...the goal was $275K and they are at $702K and climbing because you can still give. giveto.lasalle.edu/pages/home-page-2If you click Leaderboards, you can see # of gifts by class. An impressive showing from the newly minted Class of 2020. I think each grad was asked to make a gift of $20.20 and it looks like 93 have donated so far. Your 71ers were top 5 in # of gifts. My 93ers came in 8th but I'm still rallying people...I think we can take the 71ers

And doing the math on total amount donated and seeing the average donation was almost 500 dollars has to mean there were some really high dollar donations, because I'd imagine the typical donation was a fair amount less than that.

i went on the day of giving site last night just before 10pm to see how it was going and was pleasantly surprised to see the total at $327k which was $50k over the goal. a couple minutes later, i refreshed the site and the number had jumped to $427k. not sure if that means someone dropped a $100k donation or it was just catching up, but i almost fell off my chair when i saw that.
and now it's up to almost $704k. this is really good news.

There was a 100K match from a member of the class of 86 that was reached on the scholarship donations which was great to see. Some others will be trickling in too - plus company match contributions which take a few weeks to typically come in. My impression talking with people at the school yesterday and today was that they were blown away by the numbers. This is a good thing and much needed by the school right now.

That’s good news about the 71er’s. Some of my ‘71 classmates still have their First Communion money. (Long live Cozy Morley.)

Has this been separated from the Day of giving where you can designate your money to the basketball program?

Has this been separated from the Day of giving where you can designate your money to the basketball program? No. the original Day of Giving was supposed to be on Charter Day in March, but that was right when everything was shut down with COVID, so the University decided to push it until May as they reassessed things. If you go to the site and click one of the funds...like Explorers Club...you can designate amounts for basketball or whatever sport. Similarly, there is an Explorers Choice category where you can target your donation for something specific in the school.

Damn impressive by current/graduated Explorers to blow away the target amount like that.

I was interested in the story behind the number jumping late in the day also. The website currently shows $710,310 was raised so far. This is so great to be a part of!
Challenge matches being part of this equation makes sense. I was also wondering if all of the "paper" and pledges taken via phone donations had even been tabulated as of yet or could be some part of the noted sudden jump late in the day also.
The $275,000 goal was a modest reduction from last spring's actual tabulation of $452k, and was designed to primarily have an impact on scholarship funds. I saw that the March 2020 goal was originally set at $500,000 but that the school must have backed off the number due to COVID-19. We undoubtedly need the support to fill tuition and other revenue gaps now more than ever so I'm so thrilled to see the alums and friends of La Salle have stepped up in a big way.
