Big win for the boys. They deserve respect now and shouldn't be dismissed just because its a road game.

Great win. My parents went down to the game from DC (Andy Katz even gave them a shout out on twitter).
This is a great feeling and I have confidence in the players and staff to keep this going against UMass..

I had to work and missed the game but thanks to the beauty of DVR I was able to watch the whole thing. I may be rehashing some thoughts be here's mine:
- 1st half may have been the best half of La Salle basketball I've ever seen (beginning 2004) - 2nd half was ugly starting off but might have been the gutsiest for fighting through it and coming back - for once we got some help from the ref at the end - nice to win a game where we weren't reliant on the 3 - Holy Steve Zack batman, he was awesome - the poise of our guards is unbelievable
The biggest takeaway I had: - I loved G's demeanor, no tantrums, just calm and confident. He said post-Butler that we've earned this and the announcers kept saying he's telling them play like we belong here. This confidence is rubbing off on the players and the sky is the limit with these guys
Lunardi has us IN the tournament as of tonight and Monday's RPI recap will be my favorite one I've ever done

@jonrothstein La Salle does it again. Explorers beat back-to-back ranked opponents for first time since 1952. VCU goes down in Richmond.
@espnandykatz OK, best team in Philly? La Salle or Nova. What a week in Philly hoops
@jonrothstein Still a long ways until Selection Sunday, but La Salle built quite a resume this week with wins over VCU + Butler. Huge for John Giannini.
@espnlunardi Moving IN: Iowa State, La Salle. Moving OUT: Maryland, St. Mary's.
@franfraschilla Been on Ramon Galloway bandwagon for a while. 31 tonight at VCU. May take couple of D-League seasons but will play in NBA, I believe.
@tyreekduren Whats havoc ? RT @gregvcuram: @tyreekduren do you know what havoc is? after tonight you will

Am I dreaming this?
I was watching the score on my phone at a party. When I saw the halftime score, I rushed over to The Ugly Moose to watch the second half. There were a few La Salle people there watching. by the end, a bunch of the Flyers fans were into it, too.
One guy said it all: "Where the hell did La Salle come from?"
Here is what I thought watching the game:
1) VCU is my favorite team to watch in college basketball. They just swarm teams all game long. That's a very good team. I know Butler wasn't at full strength but I've seen them w/ Clarke a few times. VCU's better. I think that aside from Miami they're the best team we've faced all year.
2) I loved what we did in the comeback. We played four corners essentially and opened up driving lanes. VCU's a great defensive team but I don't think there's anyone in the country who can keep turning away Tyreek and Ramon. It was smart to run like that, too -- we're a very good passing team but VCU goes after passing lanes more (and possibly better) than any other team in the country. Keep the passes to a minimum; just drive to the hoop and shoot or kick out.
3) The pre-season press about Steve Zack is 100% accurate and true. He's a legitimate A-10 center.
4) I seriously cannot believe they won that game. I got a text from my buddy after VCU made their run in the second half that read: "If you didn't leave that party yet don't. VCU's up." I told the game wasn't over and, well... They're on a very special run of basketball right now. I don't know what the rest of the season holds for us but these past two weeks has made the past 17 years worth it.

yea, as i said earlier this is the best for lasalle since they beat clemson, texas tech, furman, alabama amd memphs state in 2 weeks in the 74-75 season. 4 of those 5 teams were ranked and all made it to the ncaas. u mass is tough, don't have a letdown.

Ramon is really saying it best: "It was a huge step," Galloway said, with an emphasis on "huge," after the Explorers beat No. 19 VCU 69-61, giving them consecutive wins against ranked teams for the first time in more than 60 years. "The biggest step probably in La Salle program history." "We don't want to have a mindset of upsetting teams. We want to have a mindset of beating teams," Galloway said. scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=330262670Good quotes in this recap as long as you can get past the solid AP reporting where it says G's first name is "Tom"

It's also sort of fitting that the best week of basketball for La Salle in a few decades is completely overshadowed by what Villanova did this week.

I just read the hawks message board, they seem very positive about Lasalle. Not sure why one comment becomes the voice of the whole hawk community. I take back the jealous and d bag comment for now.

The casual fan has awakened to La Salle basketball. Beating one ranked team could be attributed to a lucky sort of game - but two in one week legitimizes you. I've received about a dozen texts since the win last night by casual fans asking about La Salle basketball - this group is definitely trailblazing a successful program here! Great win. I'd have to think this puts us in a "control our own destiny" scenario - as long as we win the games we're supposed to win, we probably will be in. Go Explorers!

Joe Fed has LaSalle with an RPI of 28. 28, with an overall record of 13-5. That's pretty impressive. We still have alot of work to do though. We're still under the radar...didn't see anything on SC last night, although there was alot going on this weekend. I kinda like it that way. Just play it one game at a time and maintain the focus. No letdowns.

Watched the end game on DVR last night. The announcers were adamant that Zack committed no foul in the final minute. However he jumped back and there was an incidental contact and your typical home call so I'm fine with it. we have learned how to protect a lead better in these situations. Statistic on #philahoops says we are 17-0 with a lead and five minutes to play, and 5-1 in five point games this year. As bad as we have been in past seasons at getting 2 for 1s in the final minute, or any shot at all, this year coach has the benefit of Duren and Galloway which gives him too many options for a defense to prevent all at once, and then G can go all defense with the lineup and still have multiple scoring options. G never had the personnel in the past for this. He recruited good shooters and some rebounding but they didn't learn man defense and disappeared often on our 1-on-1 style offense. Plus every guy on the floor is a 70%+ free throw shooter so no one can ever extend a game against us by stopping the clock.
Then the announcers thought Shaka was calling for a push off by Galloway but Shaka was really signalling walk.

I really didn't like the way we tried to sit on the lead against URI. We should have just kept pushing the lead.

I'm hoping it became a "teaching moment" during the bye week to show these guys that they have to initiate the play earlier in the shot clock and the other 4 guys need to move without the ball better.
As a concept I like the idea of running set plays to run down the shot clock and shorten the game when it's a 3 or 4 possession game and say 3 minutes left, maybe 4. I don't like the idea of this concept at 6 or 7 minutes to play because 1 - if it doesn't lead to high % shots it's essentially a turnover and an opportunity for a runout and quick score and allows momentum to build, especially on the road; 2- our execution of this style leaves a lot to be desired, it's average at best. With under 4 minutes to go in a 4 possession game it can work even if you only score on 1 of 3 possessions and run down 30 seconds each time.
Let's say your up 7 with 3:30 to go and you've got the ball on the road and you go to this idea
Possession 1 ends with a missed shot and defensive rebound with 3:00 left on the clock that leads to an opponent basket with 2:40 to play, now lead is down to 5
Possession 2 ends with a made lay up with 2:10 to play, allows defense to set up and at least pressure the ball and inbounds play. 7 point lead with 2:10 to go. Opposition gets a good look and makes it a 5 point game with 1:50 to play
Possession 3 ends with a missed layup with 1:15 to play and the home team now down 5 with the ball.
Now you're in a tough spot because it can now become a 1-possession game if you don't get a stop. What I do like about this team is that it has been able to bear down and get stops and is an overall good defensive team. if you get the stop here and force them to run the shot clock you might get the ball back with 0:50-0:55 seconds left and you force the home team to make a decision on whether to try and play defense or foul. If you run the shot clock down and miss (as we have a propensity to do) you likely give up a bucket with 0:40 seconds to go and now you're sweating out shooting free throws for the next 5 minutes.
ugh.

the key is also to not foul which extends the game. Zack and Garland did vs. VCU and got away with it because we made our shots to trade buckets but they won't always go your way. The Villanova team fouled Seton Hall last night. that's certainly not how you beat an inferior team, and I think our guys know better now because they have been in that situation before.

If u have taken a lead by playing better BB for 37 minutes, I hate to see a delay on offense which only results in the taking of poor, hurried shots that lead to relinquishment of lead or at least, uncomfortable moments at end of game. Play with confidence.Sort oflike pro footballs version of the prevent D, which often prevents a team from holding the lead.
