Great, great game to be at... Definitely the best I've been to. (others have been great, but we've fallen short in all of them). Thought Ty Garland was the X factor tonight. We were in danger of getting the doors blown off in the first half and he was the only player who was competent offensively and able to create his own shot.. without his early effort don't think we hang in. Also, for once I have to say G made a great halftime adjustment going to running the offense through Zack at the top of the key, it opened it up a lot more for us offensively. Defense was excellent, and we just seemed to want it more. So happy for the team, the students, and everyone else in the La Salle family. The best part: the best may be yet to come for this team. Let's get back to work!

Agree on Garland but Duren's trey in the first half after Garland's to bring the Explos back from 10 down to 4 also came in handy when it looked as if the game might get out of control. Duren's line for the game: 16 points, 7-14 from the field with 2-3 on treys, 5 rebounds, 6 assists to 1 turnover, 3 steals and 2 blocks in a team-high 35 minutes. Not a bad night's work.

Just to follow up on the SportsCenter stuff. Molly in our office has sent them all of our GoExplorers.tv highlights. I'd expect to see something in the next edition of SportsCenter.

AWESOME job, Kevin & Molly!
I was so pissed we were shut out of SportsCenter and ESPNNews Highlight Express, but when I turned off my TV, I left my tuners on both just in case. After seeing sicguy's post, I just turned it back on and did my thang and there was a nice little package featuring how Butler's game went Saturday vs. how it went tonight.
SVP may have even given an indirect shoutout to La Salle Athletic Communications (and ESPN grunts, obviously): "A lot of hard work behind the scenes to get in highlights from a lot of places that weren't easy to get. We got 'em for you, and now we can say so long."

And a quick note. Ramon Galloway did not start this game because he is dealing with issues regarding his mother. If you look at our video on the site, he is either crying or fighting back tears the entire time. My question about his emotion almost brought the interview to a halt. The kid is my favorite La Salle basketball player in the 10 years or so that I've followed this team. His raw emotion, his genuine attitude and such is really refreshing. You can say that about a lot of these players. I've not always been high of Giannini (as an alum), but the way he interacts with his players and the way that they play FOR him, has really changed my mind this year. Watching him choke back tears when talking about Galloway shows a caring person which, in the scheme of things, is more important than winning at all costs. Winning helps though. ;D ~Joe Fedorowicz Nice commentary there Joe. Well deserved win for a fine group of young men that G was able to assemble and mold into a competitive and winning Team. They deserve it, the fans and students deserve it, and the Univerisity deserves it. It was a long time coming. Hopefully they won't rest on the laurels, and continue to FIGHT ON and bring home another W at VCU!

The explorers can overcome poor shooting or a poor game from most of the team. The exception is Duren. When he goes 1 for 10 with a couple of assists like he did at Xavier, we lose. He had similar lines at Charlotte and Miami. Galloway is the emotional leader, but Duren is the key. As an aside, I loved the way Mills was more aggressive all night. He is still not hitting his jumpers, but he moved the ball well and his layup at the end of the first half was huge. He also assumed primary defensive responsibility for Jones in the 2nd half and helped hold him down.

Not so consistent during other contests this year. I got the impression when we were raining 3's sucessfully we may have gotten a little bit seduced- keying on this too much. maybe lost our way. Hope the coaching staff keeps emphasizing how much the D brought us that victory last night!

I was at the game last night with my son. I had predicted a loss on the board and I didn't see any way we would win. I was wrong obviously and I love it!
The team played gritty the whole game. The shots weren't falling but they played good defense and never quit. I think the key to the game was when Duren stripped their point guard (Barlow?) and went in for the layup. I had said to my son not 5 minutes before that Barlow looked beatable. He was tentative out there and Tyreek stripped him at a pivotal point in the game.
Congrats to G and the team for their first truly signature win!

I agree their guards looked worn down. I got the same feeling at the 5 minute mark. I could tell they were wearing out and had to really push to take back the lead. Without question our D was the difference in the game. Whether your shot is falling or not you can always bring the D. Urban Meyers always says when you are playing a good team on the road you better pack your defense I think we can apply that to B ball.

I had a few tears watching Ramon in the press conference. I hope he and his family can find some resolution whatever the problem. The young man is truly unique.
Congrats to Kevin and Molly. Great hustle. We thank you.
Heard John Feinstein this morning giving us and Philly basketball great acclaim. Only negative was he referred to G as Gnomee. Said G has done a terrific jon rebuilding the program.
Legler on Mikey Miss. Super pumped over the win. Rushed home from airport to get kids so he could take them to the game. Said it was a great effort seeing the lead slip away only to comeback and take the lead.
Contrast that with the dope who did the color commentary last Saturday on the X broadcast. Say what you want about G and his offense or defense, his teams always battle and don't give up ( note the streak where we had the longest streak of losses under 10 points). They will compete.
So happy for the students. I am sure the win will be something they remember from their La Salle days. Let's hope there are more.
As for LSCHS students at the game, it appeared the entire basketball program was there. Great to see Stukes chatting with Pappy and Will during warmups. Bron Holland brought his Bangor HS team to the game ( they stormed the court too). There appeared to be another entire HS team waiting by the La Salle locker room after the game. They had the letter "E" on their warmups. Another young man with Blue and Gold Vaux HS Lettermen jacket also there. I don't think it was Jordan. Could have been Sammie Foreman who transferred from Haverford School before the season?

With all the Stevens talk tonight, figured I'd bump this. At the time, and especially now looking back, you can argue this was our biggest win in 50 years. Without this game, there's none of the rest of it. We had just gotten hammered by Xavier and were 2-2 in the A-10. No one was thinking tournament before this game.

Agree 100%. Well said. It was the biggest win to that point in the last 50 years, though I'd argue that the Kansas State win was bigger.

Looking back on it all now- that K-State win is really amazing. It was basically a road game in the NCAA tournament against another Top 10 team at the time.
The fact that we beat two top 10 teams in one season is just awesome. What a great year, and I hate to say it, but next year could be even better - I think we are on the upswing here

That game is probably the best live sporting moment of my life. It's that or the first game in NYC after 9/11. I went with a really good friend of mine and her father, who was also an alum. That was the first, but not the last, the Explorers made us tear up. I was about 10 rows up right behind Brad Stevens that game.
What was even more impressive -- Butler's previous game was against Gonzaga in what was one of the best games of the year. Roosevelt Jones launching that shot at half court just a few days after the miracle at their gym was a ridiculously long 1.5 seconds or so.
Beating Butler at home sort of makes sense. Beating VCU the next game still doesn't compute.

I sat on pins and needles throughout that entire game. Going into that game I thought there was no way we would win it because Stevens would find a way to pull out the win. I was wrong. It still gives me goosebumps today, thinking about that game.
