Never too early to start looking to the future. Ted Silary mentioned on his blog that La Salle Asst. Pappy Owens was at Haverford School to see '15 PG Levan Alston JR. PG and '15 SG Sean Lloyd. Alston is son of former Temple great Levan Alston Sr. and Lloyd is nephew of Overbrook High Legend Lewis Lloyd.
My favorite local player is '14 Jahyde Gardner 6-4 do-it-all from Friere (same school as Ramon Galloway).
Shep Garner '14 6-2 G from Roman and Ja'Quan Newton '14 6-3 G from Neumann-Goretti may or may not be on our radar screen but they are really nice players. Newton wanted to go to Syracuse but they seemed to have filled their needs so Newton has to broaden his pick of schools.
I also have an interesting out of area player Shane Eberle '14 6-10 230 C from Good Counsel HS in MD Suburb of Wash. DC has us on his list. He seems to be a Steve Zack type. Players in Ultra Competitive DC Catholic League with DeMatha and Gonzaga. La Salle Baseball always seems to grab a couple of players from this HS.

Screamer cannot recall Alston,Sr. When did he play; as soon as u tell me, it will all come back- I hope; Who is my favorite team?; Who is my ONLY team-That I can never forget! I think I remember a Demetrious Alston who played for NOVA.

Think about 2 seasons from now. I agree Hykos. After next year we are left with a freshman in Stukes (assuming he redshirts), Khalid Lewis, and DJ Peterson. While that rotation isn't horrible it lacks a real scorer which I think we are going to desperately need. I would take any guard that I believe could score the ball off the dribble who wanted to come.

Interesting to read on the same blog that Miles Overton also scored 29 as St Joe Prep smoked Plymouth Whitemarsh, typically a pretty good program. I'm not disappointed that Miles is going to Wake Forrest; I think Amar is going to be a terrific player for the senior Explorers.

I think I remember a Demetrious Alston who played for NOVA. Alston was Temple's PG for 2 years in the mid-90s (the 2 years immediately after Jones/McKie graduated) after transferring from New Orleans. He played at Gratz in HS. Averaged about 10 points and 3 assists per game. Mediocre shooter but good defender. As I remember him, he was one of those smart, tough Chaney guards who lacked a consistent jumper, but still jacked a ton of 3s because of the offense they ran. It's safe to say that "great" was an oversell, but he was a solid player.

Sorry for the "overhype" BP. Time passes and players seem to get better. Alston was indeed a solid PG.
Speaking of hype, I will get a chance to see Horace Spencer twice this HS season. Very interested in seeing him play. He had all the HS basketball powers trying to get him to attend their school. Instead, he chose to play in his school district for a HS that is not really much of a power. Is he not phased by "glamor" schools and walks to his own beat?
Spencer rarely scores double figures and has a reputation as rebounder and shot blocker.
Thanks to those that explained recruiting to some of our less knowledgeable fans. As has been noted many times before, G and his staff are tireless workers on the recruiting trails. The names I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. None of the players mentioned could help us next year. They are all underclassmen and not all guards.
The coaching staff was extremely pleased to get a recruit and a transfer early. It allowed them to use their time working on two more positions for the Spring and allowed them to start evaluating the underclassmen.
Finally, if you are going to see Life Center HS NJ, you can see FR Terquin Mott JR and Malik Ellison (Purvis' son).

G attended the Chester-Abington game last night at Widener U per PH4L on the SJU board. Anthony Durham 6-2 G...yes that will cause some to flip their lids...from Abington could be the player of interest but there was so much talent there yesterday it would be hard to tell. Stukes played there earlier in the day.

Stukes had 29 against a very good Roselle Catholic team.
