This Iona team has talent. This game will not be a walk in the park type of win. Iona has beated both Wake Forest and Georgia. While both of those teams are down this year, I would think that we wouldn't mind having wins over those two. Just wanted to see what the boards thoughts are about this upcoming game.

We should be worried about Sean Armand and Lamonte Jones. Both can put up points. Outside of those two, Iona has no one else that can produce big numbers.
Remember, this is a team that lost to St. Peter's. Similar to Bucknell this is a type of game we should win if we are indeed going to have a very good to great year.

if we're worried about Iona, we don't deserve to be in any NCAA talk OR upset about SJU or some other program getting invited over us to a Catholic League with the 7 that left the BE...

Worried? No, but Iona is a good enough team that these guys need to be focused and play the way they are capable of playing.
Zack not playing the entire 1st half of the Bucknell game was probably the single biggest factor in the loss. Assuming he can avoid getting 2 fouls in 90 seconds again, things should be OK tomorrow.

The second foul on Zack was totally bogus at Bucknell. His man fell down tripping over either his feet or another player's feet and rolled into Zack. Play happened right in front of me.
Zack needs work and really made some bad mistakes at Bucknell but I do think we are a better team with him on floor. We are just too small with 4 guards on the floor at which time 2 of them can't get score off the dribble.

Mookie, quit frankly, I worry about every game.

I hear you...but at the same time, if we want to be considered legitimate with the rest of the country we need to start thinking of ourselves that way.
The day I feel the need to worry about losing to a team like Iona is the day I believe we are no longer a credible program...unless Iona becomes a legit national program.

No I would never worry about losing to a team like Iona particularly when our first loss of the season was to that power house CCSU.

ridiculous losses happen every year...i don't expect that to be the norm throughout the season though...
when i do, then my standards have lowered...

Next 3 games are expected to be wins. Miami is the big one. They have four good players that can produce. They also beat Michigan State. That's a game that can propel our program.

agreed vasalos.
Miami is going to be tough and if LaSalle pulls the upset, THEN we have something legit to point at as to why we should be in the NCAAs and/or new league over SJU

Iona has a dangerous offense and a pretty poor defense. One of the smallest teams in the country, so hopefully Jerrell and Zack can dominate the paint.

If we beat Miami, we'll be firmly in the NCAA conversations. A10 play is where the men will be seperated from the boys as well.
Anyone know the status of Tyreek Duren for the Iona game? He showed guts last game with the hurt ankle.

Duren's injury was not to his ankle. It was a deep bruise either to his quadricep or thigh where a Bucknell player kneed him. I have no idea what his status is for tomorrow night.
mookie, you sound like one of those fans from BCS schools who don't think La Salle belongs on the same court as them. Iona is a solid team and La Salle will need to play well to beat them. Georgia is down this year, but Iona walked out of there with a win last Saturday and that's not easy to do. And tomorrow they add skilled 6'8", 240 lb forward David Laury who had to sit out the first semester. He averaged 16 and 10 at a Texas juco last year and was pretty highly recruited out of prep school. I know that "G" recruited him for a while but I think academics was a factor in him backing off.
I agree these are the games La Salle needs to win if they're serious about the postseason, but more than likely, this will be a real battle. While Jones and Armand are the two primary scorers, freshman AJ English out of Delaware, another kid that "G" recruited, was put into the starting lineup recently and scored 17 points in each of the last two games. Former Penn State player Tre Bowman from York, yet another "G" recruit, has also scored in double figures in five of their eight games. This team has some firepower and our guys will need to defend well in order to win.

kjmac - i know i come across like that but let's be honest, if we want the country to view us as a better program/team than sju and more qualified to be in a conference better than the MAAC then we need to start thinking that way inside.
Are we a BCS school? No Have we been a top program in the last decade? No
I recognize that, but at the same time we shouldn't be a program or fanbase that looks at our program as being fortunate to make post season play every 10 years. LaSalle's problem is that it operates as a small time program in a conference that's anything but small. That needs to change, along with how we view ourselves. If we think beating Iona is significant then we have no business thinking we can compete with the likes of Miami.
If we want to be taken seriously by the rest of the country, we need to stop worrying about schools like Iona and worry about bigger opponents. We shouldn't be losing to a CCSU team AT HOME unless they're the class of their leagues and/or perennial NCAA teams, which they are neither. You can't justify beating a team by 26pts on the road and then lose to that same team the following year in your house when that team is basically the same team that improved a little bit AND you are the same team as last year with the potential of going from NIT to NCAA. You don't.

You don't. The transfer student has really levelled the playing field when it comes to smaller programs. Ramon Galloway has been a breath of fresh air. I haven't seen an emotional/insirational leader like him in some time at La Salle. With the addition of Garland, we really have the potential to make some noise. As alumni, we cannot ignore the importance and impact of the transfer student in college basketball. Clearly, we have the ability to play with the big boys. It's just a question if we can execute in-game.

LaSalle has really hit on the transfers recently and it's been great. Hopefully, that continues with Garland.

Mookie nails it with his post. We need to look at the 10 years before last season as an exception, not the rule, when it comes to this program. Beating schools like Iona should be the expectation every single night and when it comes to games like Nova, PSU and Miami have the same hope that we are capable of competing with and beating those kinds of teams.
I will argue that every team throws out a clunker and we threw ours out against CCSU, in fact the drubbing we gave them the previous year probably hurt in 2 ways, 1 was revenge and the other was overconfidence.

Realtimerpi has us winning 80-63. It was almost dead on with us losing to Bucknell and almost by the exact amount

The only game I wasn't worried about this year was CCSU. And we all know how that turned out. From here on out, my default stance is worry.

The fans hate losing to La Salle too, but they don't talk about it over a month later. You win the next game and you move on. You consider it an aberration. We are 6-2 with one bad loss which is better than 2-6 with one good win. The panic/obsession with the CCSU loss is getting to be ridiculous in some corners of facebook and the message board. I only hope that we go 26-2 so that people can say we should be starting 27-1. Let it rest!
