I thought it would be interesting to see what we have to face as a program when you compete against large State schools. This info was obtained by the media outlet under the "Freedom of Information Act." I saw the actual contract last night online. This article does not contain the part about the assistants. URI agrees to pay about $375k a year for 3 full time assistants, a Director of Basketball Operations and a Video Coordinator. Each coach gets a car allowance too. This article also doesn't detail the Summer camp. Hurley is required to have a $1 million insurance policy and pay expenses to the school for use of the facilities but he keeps the "profit". There is a link in the article which gives you the actual contract. Very interesting reading. www.politifact.com/rhode-island/statements/2013/sep/29/deadspin/deadspin-says-uri-basketball-coach-highest-paid-ri/

Some of the stuff in there is crazy. - 20 Suite tickets for every home game
- $65,000 to play an away game (against LSU next year)
- $7500 for a 2.5 GPA, $10,000 for a 2.75
- $25,000 if ticket revenue goes over $1M
- $20,000 for each NCAA tournament game before Sweet 16, $25,000 after
- $5000 for NIT

Don't forget the 4 chartered flights for the team. The radio and TV shows. The physical appearances at URI functions. The country club membership.

That's either a good agent or Hurley knew what he wanted. I think every contract should have those incentives and he's smart for getting to pony up money ahead of time for non-conf games and charter flights

Agreed and even from the school's perspective wouldn't you want your coach motivated for his players to have a higher GPA and to go further in the postseason

2.5 is a joke for an academic incentive

2.5 is a joke for an academic incentive It's high-mid-major basketball. 2.5 is probably reachable but I doubt 2.75 would happen. Don't they publish these numbers somewhere?

Ticket revenue incentives being 2.5 times higher than academic incentives is perfect NCAAing.

Ticket revenue incentives being 2.5 times higher than academic incentives is perfect NCAAing. Glad to see the school and Hurley's priorities are in orders. Student-athletes? The incentives say Athlete-students.

Good for him. If you're happy where you're at but a bigger program wants you go get more from your current employer

Good for him. If you're happy where you're at but a bigger program wants you go get more from your current employer He's not happy where he's at, he's merely biding his time. I think he would have taken the St. John's job in a heartbeat. It's in his backyard. He could recruit better to St. John's as well. I think he "withdrew" when it became apparent that Mullin was St. John's choice.

Maybe URI caved and gave him a $15K bonus for a team 3.0.
